•••• Night set quickly in the town of Beacon Hills. Lucas was now in front of Allison's house. He heard that they were serving pasta tonight, so of course he had to go. It's not like he had any ulterior motives. When Allison opened the door, she was stunned.
"Why are you here?" Then she gazed into the house with worry.
"You said you were having pasta," Lucas smiled as he replied.
"But not for you to come…" She was speechless by his shamelessness. Her house was practically on fire right now. She had seen countless strangers this morning coming and going. After a sigh of defeat, she gestured for him to get in. As soon as Lucas entered the kitchen, a silence overtook the table. Gerard's smug face from school vanished, while Chris and Victoria stared coldly at him.
"I invited myself to dinner. I hope that you don't mind." Lucas then took a seat without waiting for a reply. Looking at this, Allison was having a headache.
"I'll go and grab you some food." Seeing her leaving, he smiled, then turned towards them. Chris was basically shooting daggers with his eyes.
"Was it you? The one responsible?" Lucas knew what he meant and didn't lie.
"I was just doing my job as a hunter." He didn't care if they knew anyway; they still would want to kill him. Chris frowned when he heard this, then thought of the victims' wounds.
"Was it a shapeshifter?"
"Bingo! A Kanima, to be more specific." All three of them were shocked; even Gerard was visibly taken aback by this revelation.
"A Kanima?" Allison's curious voice sounded from behind him. She brought a plate to him, then looked curiously at them for an answer. If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. Please report it.
"A Kanima is a creature of vengeance. From the moment that it is born, it seeks a master." Chris started explaining some of the information on the Kanima. When Chris got to the part that the Kanima only kills murderers, Lucas stopped him.
"This one had a master filled with thirst for blood." Chris glanced at him, then ignored him. Thinking back, he always felt something weird about Jackson. Although Chris didn't want to admit it, Lucas saved many people by doing this. Observing their reactions, Lucas smiled.
"What? Feeling down because a lot of you weren't capable of doing what I've done?" By now, Victoria was gripping the kitchen knife in her hand tightly. She was constantly glancing at his neck.
"That's your job!" Gerard added from the side, then continued speaking: "It's also your job to end your own life since you became an abomination!" The atmosphere was reaching a freezing point; it was now looking like they were about to fight.
"Tsk! Tsk! Gerard… you forgot that the ones who made this rule are dead! But my family is still standing to this day!" Lucas' eyes changed; the silver and golden colors brought a wave of pressure over them. Gerard's early bravado seemed to vanish; only his usual gaze of a snake remained. This sudden confrontation allowed Chris to feel some of Lucas' power. Although this didn't prove anything, he was sure that Lucas was something he had never crossed paths with.
Lucas's eyes were changing back as he felt Allison's hand on his. Lucas could only smile; she must have thought he was going crazy again. After what happened, the dinner felt rather bland for everyone, except Lucas.
"This is very good," Lucas pointed toward the plate and praised Victoria with a smile, making it seem that what had happened earlier was all an illusion. Lucas didn't pay attention to her cold attitude and continued eating. After finishing dinner, Lucas felt that it was time to go, and he gestured towards the door to Allison. Outside, Allison looked at him with a hint of worry.
"Be careful of Gerard." He nodded, then gently stroked her face and kissed her. When they parted lips, they gazed into each other's eyes, staying like this for a moment, before Lucas finally left for his car. •••• While driving, Lucas looked in his mirror and smiled.
"It seems that I finally caught the rabbit." He then turned his direction around and headed for the forest. After driving for some time, he found a perfect spot for what was to come. After stopping, he opened the box that was on the passenger seat and took a gun from it.
"Man, I really need to buy a bigger car," he thought of his spear, then looked reluctantly at his gun. After getting out of the car, he walked ahead a few hundred meters. He didn't want his car to be destroyed.
"Crunch!" Suddenly he heard the sound of stepping leaves from all around him. Lucas could see lasers pointing at his chest. Then a voice resounded in the lonely forest:"This is the place you die, Lucas Ashford!"
