When they heard this, both looked at each other, then they swiftly made their way out. Ten million dollars just for some information? That was basically a dream come true. Mary sighed as she watched the two go, but that was only the beginning, as the other hunters seemed triggered too and a wave of them went for the door.
"Sigh…" Steven approached the bar and looked at them in disappointment.
"From an honorable profession, hunters nowadays are just petty mercenaries."
"Isn't this what Lucas wanted?" Mary glanced at him curiously. Steven didn't respond immediately and poured himself a glass of scotch; he drank the whole thing and looked at the door.
"It is indeed…but he has too much ambition…capable of even paving the path with blood to achieve it." Mary remained silent, as she knew what Lucas had done, but they weren't in a position to challenge their patriarch. Steven smiled at her serious expression.
"Don't think too much, we live because of them, so we will follow him till death." Mary looked into his eyes and nodded, then her ancestor came to mind.
"Do you think she would have been happy seeing the Ashfords' situation?"
"Never!" Steven replied as he thought of her.
"She was a divine woman, and a kind one; she would weep if she saw the state of her family."
"But…after all she went through…" Steven glanced into her sad eyes and patted her head 3 times, just like he did when she was a kid.
"She left this world with a smile, so don't be sad, be happy for her."
"Yeah…" Mary nodded, then looked at the bar in a daze. Steven didn't say anything else and accompanied her in silence. Enjoying this book? They both stayed the night at the base, and unfortunately, Lucas had to sleep alone. Right in the morning, all of them gathered; Malia was the earliest to wake up.
Today was the first day of school for her, and Marin was the one who suggested that she should go too. Lucas was skeptical about this advice, but if hitting and biting a few teenagers could make her integrate more into human life, he was willing to take that risk. After all, teenagers tend to do that stuff already.
"You're ready?" Lucas looked at her and waited for an answer, but he was only ignored.
"Malia!"
"Yes!" His shout startled all the girls, and Malia straightened her back and almost gave him a salute.
"Good. I thought there was a problem with your hearing." He nodded in satisfaction, as for why she was so tense? It may have been because he gave her a little extra training. The moment he turned his back, Malia glared grudgingly at him. These past few days were almost the worst of her life; she had to learn to speak and, at the same time, get beaten by the devil called Lucas. He always said it was training for her own good, but Malia smelled the malice from a mile away.
•••• Just as they were walking in the schoolyard, they encountered Stiles and Scott. The two quickly approached them when they saw their group. Just as Stiles was about to say hello, he spotted Malia and was in a daze for a second.
"Who is she?" Lucas glanced at Malia, then at him and spoke with a smirk.
"Forget it, she bites."
"What…?" Stiles looked at him with a question mark over his head, then ignored him and reached with his hand towards Malia. Just as he was about to give a wonderful introduction about himself, he quickly snapped his hand back as Malia almost bit it.
"Holy moly! She really does bite!"
"I told you." Lucas shrugged his shoulders, then gave Malia a wink and acted as if nothing happened.
"Is she…?" Scott looked at Malia and felt that she was different.
"She's a werecoyote." Lucas nodded and explained the type of shapeshifter that Malia was. Stiles and Scott looked at her in wonder, but this only made Malia irritated, and they quickly looked away. While they were talking, Lucas was studying Stiles; the bad thing was that he didn't notice anything unusual, but thinking from another perspective, it was good for Stiles. Lucas glanced at them and looked around at the students coming and going.
He was sure that it would not go far from here; this was the perfect feeding ground. He then glanced back at Stiles.
"Are you sleeping well?" Even though it felt weird, Lucas still asked that. Stiles gave him a weird look and nodded.
"Yeah, in fact, I slept so well, I…" Just as he was getting excited to talk about it, Lucas quickly stopped him and looked away; he regretted asking. Still, there was a question that remained on his mind. Where did the Nogitsune go?
