Lucas then looked toward Satomi.
"Remember, you're dead, don't let your presence be known to the Nogitsune." Satomi nodded solemnly and began walking away, from the back it looked like a tree that had faced too many storms, and one more, and she would be over.
"Do you think I'm wrong?" He looked at Marin with a hint of inquiry. She raised her head and smiled at him.
"Do you?" Lucas frowned, thought for a moment, and mumbled to himself.
"I'm not wrong, I must do this." Marin and Deaton looked at each other, the most worried one was Deaton. He feared Lucas' growing power, but he also knew that they needed him. Suddenly, Scott appeared in his mind. He hoped that Scott would really reach his full potential and balance Lucas' power.
"See you tomorrow." Lucas waved his hand and walked away. •••• In the veterinarian room, Deaton and Marin were staring in silence at each other, when she finally spoke first.
"Are you going to tell me the reason why we are here?" Deaton looked solemnly at her and opened his mouth a few times before finally deciding to answer.
"It's about Lucas…" Marin smiled as she analyzed her brother.
"You're afraid of him, as you should." Deaton got up and paced around the room, her joking expression didn't make him feel better at all.
"His growing desire for conquest, the increasing aggressiveness…aren't you worried?"
"You worry too much, the days of being a vet made you really rusty." Marin dismissed his worry with a smile on her face, she was trying to keep her brother alive and healthy. Deaton shook his head and his eyes looked around, feeling he was missing something. The author's tale has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon. Suddenly, his eyes widened as he remembered an old Druid tale. He looked at his sister with horror on his face.
"You knew what he is!" Marin's smile slowly vanished from her face and she gazed at him with an unbothered expression.
"It's just an old tale, brother."
"No! No!" Deaton paced around and shook his hand.
"We Druids have been warned and told that we should be wary of it and even kill it…"
"We must kill the…" Just as he was about to say it, Deaton suddenly stopped and looked outside at the sky and fell silent. The words that were about to come out of his mouth were cut short and he didn't dare speak anymore.
"You're overreacting, it's just a myth." Marin placed her hand on his shoulder, trying to calm him down. Deaton fell silent as even if his worries were true, he didn't know what to do. The most disturbing thing was the attitude of his own sister. In the past, she would have been the one to say they had to do something, but now… she acted the opposite of what he expected. •••• While Deaton was struggling with what to do with what he found out, Satomi arrived where her pack was situated.
Her clothes were tattered and ripped apart, on her neck you could see scars from Lucas' claws that still hadn't healed. She approached the camp and soon some of her betas saw her and came running as they noticed her worn-out look. One of her older pack members approached her and looked at her with worry.
"We should have come too!" Satomi shook her head in disagreement.
"It would be helpless either way."
"Was he that strong?" Satomi fell silent for a moment as she remembered how Lucas handled her like she was some newly bitten beta.
"Strong is an understatement." Satomi then explained to him what Lucas wanted from them, causing Jeramy to grit his teeth in anger.
"We can't submit!" Satomi didn't respond and glanced at the worried eyes of her pack members. She knew that she had to make a choice and that choice would affect their lives. •••• The next morning, while sitting on the couch, Lucas was speaking with Steven, asking about the bounty he posted. After he closed the phone, he leaned back on the couch and closed his eyes. Unfortunately, there was still no lead on who was behind the bounty on his head.
From the moment he woke up, he scrolled through his family books and diaries, but he found nothing. The Ashford family had a lot of enemies, many were dead, but he was sure that some were still alive. After all, his family eventually came down to only one member. Lucas didn't know why, but the last words of the skinwalker he killed came to mind. Could they be involved in this? But then he shook his head as he was highly doubtful that a skinwalker would post a bounty on his head, then use the hunters to kill him.
Just as he was thinking of this, John came in with a serious face and spoke without a greeting.
"He really escaped, now the police and even the FBI are looking for him."
