Chương 149: In The Dark

His claws flashed in the air, and Satomi closed her eyes, waiting for death.

"Stop!" Suddenly, a shout came from behind, and Lucas smiled for a second before stopping his claws right by her neck. When he looked back, he saw Deaton and Marin walking toward him. His eyebrows were raised as he looked at Marin.

"I don't remember calling you." Marin's expression remained unfazed, then she looked down at Satomi.

"Let her go! This isn't you!" Lucas glanced down at Satomi; one more inch and he could take her life.

"Or I can kill her and then kill both of you." Deaton stepped forward, trying not to be intimidated by Lucas.

"It's a risk I'm willing to accept." Lucas looked at his expression and smelled the feeling of embracing death from him. He then threw a speechless look at Marin; she really kept her own brother in the dark. Marin raised an eyebrow but didn't say anything. Lucas closed his eyes for a moment and focused on sensing his surroundings. When he felt it was clear, he opened his eyes, then got up.

"It's clear." Satomi and Deaton were confused by what he meant, then Marin approached him and asked.

"Was he here?" Lucas knew what she meant and nodded.

"He watched for a while, then left."

"What's going on?" Deaton looked at them in confusion, but he quickly realized that Marin had left out some details.

"The Nogitsune, that's what's going on." Lucas' words brought shock to both of them, especially Satomi.

"Impossible!" She trembled as she remembered that terrifying thing.

"Someone who would benefit from this chaos." Lucas glanced at her, then at Deaton. Deaton was pacing around; since his sister was in on it, he believed that the Nogitsune was really released.

"This is bad! Do you know how much damage he will do? He will manipulate even family and friends to turn against each other."

"And he will grow stronger." Marin suddenly added. All of them fell silent as they knew that they had to do something. Satomi grabbed her body in pain and gazed at Lucas.

"So everything you did was a distraction for the Nogitsune?" Lucas looked at her and saw the hope in her eyes, the hope that he wasn't the monster that he had shown earlier. Unfortunately for her, Lucas was a bigger monster than she could ever imagine. Beacon Hills was a magnet for shapeshifters, so he needed to bring it under his control. The shapeshifters were too scattered; they had no rules, and even those who thought they were kind, like Scott, could lose control and kill innocent people.

"A part of it was for the Nogitsune; we need to let it see that I'm too busy to be in his way." Lucas stopped for a second; just as her eyes lit up, his next words were like cold water running down her head.

"But what I said earlier wasn't false either; you will only have time to decide until we deal with the Nogitsune." Deaton opened his mouth, but he stopped as he saw his sister gesturing for him to be quiet. At first, Marin had thought that she would have to do something about Lucas, just like she tried with Deucalion. But she quickly realized that he was someone without weaknesses; if she had to point to one, that would be Allison, but…

if a day ever came when she was used like that, would the world be able to face the new Lucas? After she heard some of his ambitions for the future and for the shapeshifters, she realized that it would bring more balance to the world. And Marin wouldn't allow even her own brother to get in the way. Satomi looked down in despair; before the fight, she thought that she would at least do some damage. But now she was afraid that even if she brought her whole pack, she wouldn't stand a chance.

The faces of her children flashed into her mind one by one, then she imagined Lucas' terrifying figure ripping them apart piece by piece. Lucas saw the hesitation on her face and chose to give her more time to think it over. He then looked at Marin and spoke.

"Did you find him?" Marin broke from her own thoughts and gazed thoughtfully at him.

"Yes…he's at the hospital now. But how did you know they would send him there?" Lucas smiled when he heard this; this could be his chance to let the snake come out of hiding, or should he say the fox?

"Just a guess." He brushed off her question without hesitation.
