Lou Carcolh! That was the name of the shapeshifter before him. The Lou Carcolh were a solitary lineage originating in the underground cavern networks of Southwestern France. Worshippers of the Earth's core and the telluric currents. Their kind didn't fit in even with other shapeshifters. They were hunted near extinction by the French hunters, who were the Argents' ancestors. Apparently, the Argents didn't finish the job.
The most terrifying thing was that there was a possibility that this was one of the survivors from the hunt. They could hibernate for hundreds of years. It is unknown the specific amount of years they could live. But some said that they were present even before the birth of the Roman Empire. As he thought of the details of the creature, Lucas' face became more serious than usual. This shapeshifter could kill even an Alpha down here, so he must be extra careful. The creature was already fully alerted.
Even if it couldn't sense Lucas, it could feel the ripples in the earth.
"Krr-click…krr-clck…mmmmm…" The sound was strangely disturbing, different from a vast number of shapeshifters. It was a vibration that rattled the dust on the ground and made ripples in a pond of water not far from it. Just as Lucas was positioning his body to attack, the creature opened its jaws widely.
"Hssssssss-KHRAAAAAEEGH!" Its mouth secreted some mucus. The sound was scraping to the ear, almost metallic. What followed was its tongue shooting straight for him.
"Boom!" Lucas rolled to the side just in time, as gravel flew from the place he had previously been. He looked astonished at the whip-like tongue of the creature. He glanced at the ground and realized that his camouflage was useless against a creature that lived underground. Lucas gripped his spear hard, then ran downwards towards it. He could hear the sound of the whip, then jumped with all of his strength.
Avoiding the whip and closing in on the creature. The ground shook as he landed. Without taking a closer look at it, Lucas lunged his spear at it.
"Spark!" To his astonishment, the spear that he always relied on was deflected by the creature's armor. Only a faint trail could be seen on its skin. The creature attacked almost at the same time as he did. It reached for his hand, Lucas was just a bit slower, and that hand brushed against his forearm.
"PSZZZ!" Lucas jumped a few meters back and looked at his arm with a frown. It was stained with an acidic mucus. He could feel it constantly burning down his Obsidian armor. His healing also took effect. The pain of his muscles burning and regenerating at the same time made his mind go blank. In that moment, the whip-like tongue swept right for his foot, and before he could dodge, Lucas was dragged right towards the creature. The ground scraped his back.
When he saw that he was almost near it, he swept with his spear right for the tongue, wanting to cut it off completely. Unfortunately, it seemed to notice his purpose and retrieved its tongue in time. Not wasting the chance, the monster swung its arm towards Lucas, then a few drops of mucus flew straight for his face. He put his hand in front by instinct, managing to defend against almost all of the acid, but just one drop was missed.
"Ahhgg!" It was the sound of pain, the sound that even Lucas hadn't heard from himself for a while. The drop of acid flew straight into his eyes, his most vulnerable spot. On a regular werewolf, this could be the final move. The acid would burn right through the eye and reach the skull. Fortunately, Lucas had his defense and healing abilities, stopping some of the acid and healing at the same time. Now he could only see with his right eye. His left one was almost completely destroyed.
Blood was trailing down his cheek, as rage filled his heart. But he still controlled himself. He couldn't allow the rage to control his body. He took a deep breath, then his gaze became decisive. He didn't always win his previous fights because he had overwhelming strength, but because he was always willing to put his life on the line, and this time he would do the same. The creature lunged its tongue again at him, but Lucas reacted faster and swung his spear right at it.
"KRRRK-GHUURRGH!" The creature howled in pain as its tongue was almost split in half. For the first time in the fight, it retreated a few steps and looked ferociously at him. A line of blood could be seen from Lucas to the monster. And its mouth was full of blood that was dripping to the floor. Lucas' muscles tightened, and he lunged at it with all his might, wanting to kill the damn monster once and for all.
