"How much money do you make from all of your jobs?" Lucas patiently asked again.
"What?" John was still confused by this question. A vein appeared on Lucas's forehead, he could finally understand "him" more after he went through this. He took a deep breath and told himself that violence is not the answer.
"Are you having problems?" Lucas then pointed his finger at his head. John's lips twitched, it's not like he didn't understand the first time. He was just perplexed by the question.
"Combined, I make around $35, 000 after taxes. Now can you tell me about this sudden curiosity?" Lucas didn't respond immediately and made some calculations in his head. After doing all that, he focused back on John.
"I want to hire you." John answered without hesitation.
"No, thank you!" Lucas smiled and quoted his price.
"For $100, 000 a year, almost triple what you make." John's mouth opened involuntarily, just as he was about to agree immediately, he hesitated.
"What's the job?" Seeing him still thinking clearly, Lucas nodded.
"I want to open a security business, and I need you to run it in my stead. You would do the usual, and that is imparting your skills to other people." Of course, Lucas wasn't opening this with the intention of providing security to people. Just like the Argents have a front for their actual business, he needed one too. Moving a lot of money and weapons would eventually be noticed by the authorities. But John was once in the system, he still had connections inside.
John stayed silent for a few minutes, this amount of money could change his life. He suddenly thought of his daughter and his heart decided without consulting his brain. Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
"I'll do it!" He was not stupid, although Lucas seemed like just a harmless kid on the outside, his instincts told him otherwise. So it was obvious that the business was not just security. Lucas smiled and reached out to shake his hand.
"Are you familiar with the procedures?" After accepting, John straightened his back slightly.
"Yes, if I'm not wrong about what you're thinking, it will require some licenses, but I know some people and it will be easier to get them." Lucas was not surprised that John understood some of his intentions. After all, he was a Green Beret. This was one of the primary reasons why he recruited him. Although he was still doubtful that John was just a Green Beret. The first time he told him, Lucas could hear his heartbeat speeding up. The most likely conclusion he reached was that he was hiding something else.
And he might just know what it is. It would be a double win if he were right. Throwing away the distracting thoughts, Lucas focused his attention back on John.
"How much money do you need for this?" John thought for a few moments before responding.
"If you want the business to be big, it will be between half a million dollars and 1 million dollars. Including the headquarters, the licensing, and the staff needed." Lucas nodded thoughtfully, he didn't feel that it was too much. This amount would basically cover everything needed for the business. And after a period of time, he could start making some profits. He then reached for the chair beside him, grabbed a large yellow folder, and pushed it toward John.
"What's this?" John looked at it in surprise, but seeing no response from Lucas, he decided to open it. When he saw what was inside, his hands trembled slightly. He clearly recognized that they were bearer bonds, and there were eleven of them inside. Each represents $100, 000. Before he could ask about the amount, Lucas spoke instead:"One of them is yours." John felt his throat tighten when he heard this and looked at him in silence. He knew why Lucas was doing this, so he couldn't refuse.
He didn't say a word, his gaze alone clearly sending his thanks. •••• After finishing his business with John, Lucas drove for a few minutes and arrived at school. As he was getting out of the car, he smiled as he thought of the new car he was about to purchase. Since now he had John, Lucas dumped all the hassle on him. He then headed towards the lacrosse field, he was late to school and Allison was there, so his next class didn't matter that much. As soon as he arrived, he saw that the team was starting to leave.
When he spotted Allison in the stands, he smiled and waved at her. Beside her stood Lydia, who was staring at the team in a daze. And not far behind Lydia stood Stiles, who was staring at her in a daze, with the helpless Scott by his side. He didn't think too much and walked towards them. After kissing Allison on the cheek, he looked at Stiles.
"What? Still thinking about it?"
"Who… what?!" Stiles wiped his mouth and glanced at him in confusion.
"You should be a man and go for it!"
