"Don't worry, I'm not arresting you. I just have some questions." Although the sheriff said so, his body was already blocking his exit route. While Stiles was sweating bullets for his father, Lucas was unusually calm for someone in his situation. He turned toward Allison and gave her his phone.
"Call John and tell him my situation."
"Okay!" She gripped the phone, then watched as Lucas was taken away by the sheriff. Before leaving, she couldn't help but glare at Stiles. •••• Lucas looked around the questioning room in wonder. He never thought he would one day be inside one. In front of him stood a mean-looking man, staring at Lucas intently, while the sheriff was observing him from the corner.
"Why were you looking for the address?!" The man slapped the table and glared fiercely at him. Lucas was left speechless by this. It was like a mouse trying to intimidate a lion. Lucas even imagined the man's head becoming that of a mouse. He couldn't help but chuckle.
"You think this is a joke?! Two kids were murdered!" The man became visibly worked up. The sheriff couldn't help but shake his head at this sight. Lucas only glanced at the man without responding. He came willingly, but he never said he would talk. Suddenly, a man entered the room.
"Don't say another word!" John looked around. When he saw that Lucas was looking at him like he was an idiot, he laughed and brushed it off.
"What are you doing here?" Lucas gazed at him in surprise. While the deputy was whispering something to the sheriff, John replied in confusion: "You were the one who called me!" Enjoying the story? Show your support by reading it on the official site. Lucas stared at him in disbelief.
"Yes! To get me a real lawyer!"
"Wait, aren't you a lawyer?" The sheriff looked suspiciously at John.
"I am a real lawyer!" After replying, John turned his attention back to Lucas.
"Did they read your rights?" Putting aside the questions about John's situation, Lucas responded: "No, they didn't."
"Wait a minute, he's not under arrest." The mean-looking man interjected.
"Good, then he's free to go!" John approached Lucas to take him away, but the man stopped him.
"We still have some questions for him!" John glanced at the man coldly.
"My client is not obliged to do so, and the so-called anonymous tip is hardly any evidence." Lucas coughed slightly, then gestured for him to lean over and whispered something in his ear. John's face lit up, then he looked over at the sheriff.
"I heard that your son often listens to the department's radio, is that legal?"
"Cough!" The sheriff was taken aback by this sudden question.
'Damn it, Stiles!'
"You can go. If you remember something, please tell us." He gestured toward the door and made way. Lucas ignored him, then walked out of the station with John. While they were walking, he couldn't help but ask John a question.
"Are you really a lawyer?" John thought for a few seconds, then responded: "Something like that, I'm disbarred." Lucas looked at him in astonishment.
"And you came into a police station, isn't that…illegal?" John scratched his chin and spoke confidently.
"Don't worry, I know what I'm doing." Lucas was speechless by his confidence, then ignored him and walked toward the parking lot. There he saw Allison anxiously pacing around. The moment she saw him, she sprinted toward him. Lucas hugged her tightly and reassured her.
"Don't worry, I just got asked some questions." •••• After spending some time with Allison, Lucas headed straight home while she went back to school. After arriving, he directly called the old man Steven.
"It's me. Did the shipment arrive?" After a brief silence, Steven's rough voice was heard from the other side.
"Yes! Everything is in order. The hunters don't care who's in charge, as long as they are not involved between the Calavera and us." Lucas nodded.
"Is there any movement from them?" With the Kanima dead, he could now focus his attention back on the Calavera family.
"No, but that's the thing that unsettles me most. Waiting this long is unusual even for them…you need to prepare for what's coming!"
"Don't worry. How's that plan working out?" Steven seemed to think for a moment, then responded: "Everything is fine for now, but are you sure about this? It will cost you a lot of money."
"Don't worry about the money, the plan must go on. It will help us in the future." Although he said that with confidence, Lucas started feeling the pressure of being too poor.
"As for the Calavera problem…" Lucas glanced outside the window, looking at the houses in the distance with a smile.
"…my instinct is telling me that we will meet sooner than you think."
