Panic spread throughout the hunters, it was obvious that it was a trap, and the worst of it all was that they didn't have any idea how many enemies there were.
"You will die in the crossfire!" David gritted his teeth and looked hatefully at Lucas. Lucas paid no mind to the clown, it didn't take much to figure out that he was just a disposable pawn. He focused his gaze on the hunters and reached with his hand towards them.
"Surrender and you will live!" The hunters looked at each other in dismay, some were hard-core hunters who would rather die than yield to a shapeshifter, but most of them were mercenaries. It took some time, but David's expression calmed down and he stared coldly at Lucas.
"You really think that they will-" Before he could finish, the barrel of a gun touched the back of his neck. In the blink of an eye, many hunters pointed their guns at their former companions. David couldn't believe his eyes, but he didn't dare move.
"You! When?!"
"From the moment you arrived." Lucas then took a few steps closer and looked into his eyes.
"Money… and fear can be persuasive!"
"Fuck you!" David knew that he was done. Lucas chuckled, it was pointless getting angry with a dead man. Then his eyes turned red, making David flinch instinctively.
"I am The Alpha! Born from slaughter and blood! Did you really think that you could defeat me?!" David closed his eyes unconsciously as his head began throbbing in pain. Lucas felt that he had given enough chances and looked at the man that was pointing the gun at David and spoke in a tone without emotion.
"Kill him."
"What? But… he can't do anything now." The man was shocked by Lucas' order. You might be reading a pirated copy. Look for the official release to support the author.
"Bang!" Before the man could have the chance to make up his mind, blood and pieces of brain splattered all over him. His mind went blank and he stared at Lucas as if he were a monster.
"Kill them or I will kill you!" He stared coldly at the man, then he switched his gaze to the other hunters. His shot seemed to ignite them all, and shots began firing from all directions. The hunters that were on David's side were not looking good at all, almost half of their companions had defected and they were being sniped one by one by Lucas' men. Lucas stared at this scene without pity, mercy for them would mean being cruel to those that he cared about.
This made him think of his first hunt, when he was constantly trembling and almost threw up after killing for the first time. He looked at his hands and an instinctive thought appeared in his mind, 'Am I becoming less human?' The constant shouts made his mind focus on the present, and he raised his gun and began firing at every hunter in sight. The fight was more boring than he thought it would be, the hunters were helpless and began falling down one by one, lifeless to the ground.
In the struggle, of course, some of the defectors died too, but the unexpected betrayal and Lucas' men surrounding them made their casualties fewer.
"Bang!" And with Lucas' shot, the last hunter fell to the ground. The battlefield was filled with blood and dead bodies, even some of the defectors couldn't bear this sight. Slowly Lucas' men came from the dark, their equipment was leagues ahead of the hunters'. Dressed all in green, and with a sniper rifle in his hand, Owen walked up to Lucas.
"Mission accomplished!" Lucas nodded and patted his shoulder, he was satisfied with Owen's performance. He killed more than triple what the normal soldier did. At first, he wanted to bring John too, but he changed his mind. If something happened, Hope would lose her only family member.
"Let's go." He gestured and began walking away, his men would naturally clean up the scene. Just as Lucas and Owen were walking toward the car, Owen spotted something close to the tree.
"That's unusual… a firefly." Lucas' body froze in its tracks.
"What did you say?" Owen gestured toward a couple of fireflies in the distance.
"A firefly, I was surprised too." Lucas twisted his head in that direction and he saw a couple of fireflies flying around. His pupils shrank, but his face remained calm.
"Beautiful sight, but we need to go." Owen nodded and began walking ahead. Behind him, Lucas stared at the fireflies for a few more seconds, then he began walking away. Even though he tried masking it, his demeanor changed, but Owen remained silent and didn't ask anything. •••• Ding! The door to the private laboratory opened and Lucas walked in. He looked at the various creatures, then he walked in front of a table. On the table there was an old piece of paper, Lucas read the words on it for a couple of minutes.
Then he grabbed a small container and slashed his hand, filling it with his blood. As he did this, he was constantly muttering something in a strange language as if he were possessed.
