Steven watched as Lucas went outside to make a phone call, then came back just a few minutes later.
"It's done!" Lucas didn't give any explanation, although he noticed the weird look that Steven gave him.
"Do you have a room here where I can sleep?" He looked around. Although the place was not his favorite choice, after a busy day he wouldn't mind.
"The underground bar has a couple of rooms." Steven didn't dwell on this and led him to the room. •••• Morning came quickly. Lucas was now sitting by the bar, having coffee. This scene would be peaceful if not for Mary, Steven's granddaughter, constantly glancing at him.
"You're not my type…" Lucas spoke to her without even looking, sipping his coffee from time to time. Mary was flustered for a second. She thought it wasn't that obvious. Without thinking too much, she instinctively asked:"So what's your type?" Then, as if realizing what she had asked, her cheeks reddened slightly in shame.
"Wait! That's not what I meant…" Before she could continue, Lucas gave a brief response.
"My girlfriend is my type." Lucas then stopped paying attention to her. He glanced slightly at his watch, then got up and left. He was now waiting outside the bar with Steven, who was starting to get impatient as time passed. It didn't take long for them to see an old truck driving straight towards them. Stopping in front of them, a man stepped out of the car. The man came over to Lucas and shook his hand.
"Please tell me… you didn't make me come here for nothing." Lucas shook his head. The man in front of him was John, his combat and firearms instructor. The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation.
"Who are you deceiving? You're already sniffing around for money." John gave a big grin, not minding his sarcasm at all. With his big beard and scarred face from combat, he could make a kid cry without saying anything. Lucas then turned towards Steven and gave them a brief introduction.
"Alright! Let's talk about business now." He led them into the bar, and they all sat at the table.
"I imagine the big business is about guns, am I wrong?" Lucas didn't keep much back and told him his requirements. It took him a few minutes to list all the things he needed. John gasped at his long list, then couldn't help but exclaim in surprise:"Are you arming a small army?!"
"Can you get it?" Lucas didn't go into specifics, knowing about their world is not for everyone. John stroked his beard in thought, then nodded.
"I can, but it will cost you…" At the end of the day, John didn't care what Lucas was doing with the guns. He needed that commission.
"Good, you can discuss with Steven the details. He will be the contact from now on. I will give you the money when I return to Beacon Hills in a couple of days." Seeing Steven agree, Lucas left them to discuss. He had more important business. Returning to the underground bar, Lucas was now asking Mary about other shapeshifters' information. This was his purpose for taking this place: the information he could gather was priceless, at least to him.
He abandoned the idea of waiting for the shapeshifters that appeared in the original plot, then killing them. He could do both, but if he didn't have strength, he would be the one killed instead. While Lucas was in deep thought, Mary looked at him helplessly.
"I really don't have more information on shapeshifters… at most some rumors, but they are not worth much." She was flabbergasted by his strong desire for info about shapeshifters. Hunting is one thing, but paying 10, 000$ just for some information is crazy. Mary could only attribute this to him being an Ashford.
"Tsk!" Lucas gave her a side eye then left.
"What does that mean?!" Mary shouted unhappily at his back, deeply offended. Lucas didn't pay more attention to the useless bartender and came back to see that Steven and John were talking and laughing.
"What's so funny?" Seeing him coming, John suppressed his laughter a little and let him in on the joke.
"We were talking about how we are all going to share a prison cell if the feds find out about this." Hearing this, Lucas laughed loudly, then pointed at the two of them with a mocking expression on his face.
"You two are going to share a cell, I'm just 17. I was coerced by an old man and a scary middle-aged guy." Their laughter got stuck in their throats. They looked at each other in dismay, then both burst into laughter once again. •••• Time passed quickly. Just as he came, John left quickly. The delivery would take some time, possibly weeks. For the past 3 days, Lucas meditated every day. At first, he couldn't stay focused for long, but with time it became somewhat bearable.
It was this or take a chance and go berserk every time he was angry. Although the last time was special, he still didn't want to let it happen again. After finishing the business he had here, Lucas finally decided to head back home. He swiftly entered his car and drove off towards Beacon Hills. Allison's face appeared in his mind, making him even more anxious to go back. ••••
