Lucas groaned in enjoyment; this time there was no pain. Maybe because of the difference in strength—he was not sure. But Lucas felt like a piece of a puzzle was attached to him, bringing him closer to his final form. The wave of energy lasted for a few minutes. It integrated with every part of his body, and with it came the new ability. That's right, he chose to have a new ability. This way, his methods could expand. Sometimes you could lose exactly because the enemy exploits one of your weaknesses.
His new ability was called Spiritual Camouflage. He could move without making any sounds if he wanted; his heartbeat and breathing could be masked as well. Now a werewolf couldn't even detect him through sound or smell, unless he was extremely close to them. Lucas was a bit speechless because of this ability; he was not sure if he should be happy or sad. On one side, beings like werewolves, who rely heavily on sound and smell, could be completely blind to his presence.
On the other hand, Lucas wanted something like controlling fire or being able to fly. Immortality was on his mind too, but he knew that it was a pipe dream. Even if that ability could be manifested, it would require a tremendous amount of energy to acquire it.
"Sigh…" He felt that he was a bit too greedy. Suddenly, his ears picked up something from the surface. A smile appeared on his face; the rat finally decided to show itself. He looked around one more time as he adjusted his clothes like a gentleman. The scene would be good if not for the disfigured figure on the ground and the blood on Lucas' face. He stepped over the body, grabbed his spear, and left. The sound of his steps was nonexistent; his posture was straight and relaxed.
"Click!" Just as Lucas stepped outside, two people pointed their guns straight at his head. He smiled at this so-called ambush and looked ahead. There stood Severo Calavera, with a satisfied expression on his face. This tale has been unlawfully lifted without the author's consent. Report any appearances on Amazon. Although his bloody face didn't even make Severo flinch, one of the gunmen was another story. Lucas could feel the man's body trembling while trying hard not to stare at Lucas' face.
"Now what? Where's all that big talk?" Severo pointed his gun at him too, then observed the mountain ash on the ground and smiled.
"You at least did a good job before you died." Lucas didn't reply. It was too late to have a peaceful conversation.
"Get him out of here!" Severo gestured to his men while he took the spear from Lucas' hand. Lucas didn't resist and let him take it. The two men pushed him into the car and tied his hands together. Severo threw the spear into the trunk without hesitation. He didn't know why, but that thing gave him an ominous feeling.
"Take his car and follow us!" Severo ordered his men, then entered the car and drove off. After 30 minutes of driving, they arrived at a desolate area of the forest. You couldn't even hear the birds chirping. Lucas was dragged again in front of Severo, who looked at him with a smug expression on his face.
"If you had just kept your head down, none of this would have happened!"
"Because of you, your family will suffer too. Oh, I forgot, you don't have one…" Observing Lucas calm expression, Severo became annoyed. Then, thinking of something, he smiled again.
"Maybe some close friend, or a girlfriend…" Seeing Lucas expression finally changing, he grinned in enjoyment. Hearing his taunts, Lucas closed his eyes. The final thing Severo said made up his mind about his next course of action. Then suddenly his eyes opened. Silver and gold flashed in the dark; those eyes were filled with bloodlust.
"What the fu—" The man closest to him tried to exclaim in shock, but Lucas swept his claws straight across his neck. A fountain of blood poured from his neck as he helplessly tried to stop it. Seconds later, the man could only fall to the ground. His eyes were still open, staring ahead in terror.
"How is this possible?!" Severo even forgot to shoot at this sight. He was certain that the mountain ash barrier was active. His other man quickly aimed at Lucas and shot.
"Bang!" The bullet hit Lucas straight in the head. The sound of the impact was slightly different; it was more like the bullet had hit a piece of concrete. His head jerked violently back, then he slowly returned to his original position. Lucas touched the spot and spoke:"That's not very nice, is it? That hurt!" This incomprehensible sight made Severo and his man gasp in shock. Lucas didn't give them time to breathe. Before the man could shoot again, he delivered a punch straight to his neck.
"Crack!" The man's trachea broke instantly. He didn't even last a few seconds before falling helplessly to the ground. Lucas gazed back at the last man, Severo. He started walking toward him leisurely.
"BANG! BANG!" Lucas lifted his hand, taking all the bullets directly into his palm. Severo didn't stop until Lucas was right in front of him. Not that he wanted to, but Lucas grabbed him straight by the throat and lifted him into the air.
"Gurgle…" Severo struggled desperately, but it was all in vain. With his last breaths, he spoke as much as he could muster.
"My… mother… will… avenge… me!!" Lucas looked seriously into his eyes and nodded.
"I believe you. This is why the Calavera family will cease to exist!" Severo's eyes widened further at his statement, but before he could say anything, Lucas lost interest in speaking with him.
"Crack!" He effortlessly broke his neck and threw his body away like a piece of trash.
