A couple of hours passed by. It was pitch black outside. He still didn't see any movement in the house. When Lucas started losing his patience, he suddenly saw someone walking in the house. He didn't seem to be very old. The man looked left and right cautiously, then entered his house. Because of his strong vision, Lucas was able to see the man lift something from the corner of the door before getting in. Lucas smiled at this gesture.
Although this was far from a confirmation, the man's paranoid behavior brought even more curiosity from him. Lucas didn't act immediately. Some Wendigos are known to be as strong as an Alpha. Although he somehow doubted that, he still remained vigilant. Maybe Wendigos had stronger and weaker members. Lucas didn't sleep all night. His gaze remained on the house. For the first hour, the light was still on, but after that, the house was pitch black. His hearing only picked up some munching noises.
He couldn't be sure what they were. Morning came quickly. His eyes started falling shut from time to time. When he finally heard the door open, it was the man from last night. Lucas waited for him to go away, then remained unmoved for half an hour. Seeing him not return, he made his way towards the house. Arriving at the door, he took out a small box from his backpack and started opening the lock.
"I guess all those hours on YouTube were not for nothing…" It took him some time, but he was finally able to open it. Right as he opened the door, he looked towards a corner of it. There was a small steel pin. The opening of the door made it fall down. If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it. Lucas smiled, then took the pin and put it in his pocket. His steps were very careful, bringing his senses to the extreme.
As he walked down the hallway, a weird smell hit his nose. Lucas's face changed, then he observed the door from which the smell was coming. He slowly opened the door and looked down the stairs. When he finally walked down, the smell got worse. Lucas looked towards a cooler. His hand reached hesitantly towards it, then opened it slowly. The sight made his heart sink. A wave of nausea rushed through him. Inside were human body parts, which seemed to be kept as fresh meat.
Worst of all, Lucas saw even little hands and feet. His face became unsightly. He took a few steps back and breathed heavily as he leaned against the wall. This was the first time he had seen something so gruesome. It took Lucas more than 10 minutes to calm down after what he had witnessed. This sight made him realize why humans needed hunters to exist, and why some shapeshifters didn't even have the right to breathe. Lucas took a deep breath, then went back to his car. From there, he took a bag of mountain ash.
He quickly encircled the house with it, leaving only an opening to the front porch. Lucas closed the door and put the pin back where it was before. Night came quickly. Lucas slept in the meantime. Then the sound of a door opening made his eyes suddenly open. When he looked over, it was the man returning. Lucas waited another hour. When the lights were finally turned off, he picked up his spear and made his way towards the house. Using guns in this neighborhood could easily bring the attention of the cops.
As he stepped outside the door, he smirked.
"You felt it, huh? It's too late!" Lucas then threw a handful of mountain ash. The circle instantly connected, and the barrier was formed. Lucas didn't waste time. He grabbed the door handle and ripped it off the door. He lightly tapped the door with his finger, and it opened. Lucas tightened his grip on the spear and looked around for the man. Seeing no one in sight, he brought his attention to the basement. Lucas stepped slowly towards it. When he finally got a good look inside, his face hardened.
It was the Wendigo, eating a piece of human meat like it was a feast. He had several rows of fanged teeth, and his eyes were glowing white. When Lucas stepped in, he finally brought his gaze onto him.
"I'm just too hungry!" His voice was slightly hoarse. He spoke as if he was just having dessert and had gotten caught. Lucas's face was filled with disgust at the sight. He didn't care about what the Wendigo had to say. All of them deserved to die. He chose to kill it head-on for this exact reason. He wanted to see the Wendigo closely as he ended its life. The Wendigo threw the last piece of meat away, then fully turned his body towards Lucas.
