Lucas golden eyes were filled with ferocity, he knew his situation was even worse than his first hunt, but he would do anything to survive. The creature attacked again, not giving Lucas a chance to take a breath. Its spear twisted with tremendous force right for his throat, Lucas leaned slightly to his right, then in a quick motion he grabbed the spear hard with his left hand.
At that moment Lucas swept with his right hand, his claws heading straight for its throat, the creature reacted quickly, raising its other hand and defending its throat. Blood splattered in the air as Lucas claws ripped through its arm. A low growling sound of pain escaped from the creature mouth, its eyes became bright glowing white. Enraged, the creature mustered all of its strength and punched Lucas right in the stomach.
Without having any chance to react, Lucas was directly hit, he felt like he had been hit by a train. His feet were already off the ground as the force was so strong that it sent him flying ten meters away. Sending him crashing right towards a tree.
"Thwack" The impact was a dull, ringing vibration that traveled from his spine to his teeth. Lucas tried to look ahead as his vision was getting blurry, he coughed and at the same time tried to take air into his lungs, which for a short time were deprived of it. Leaves rustled as they fell down, in that exact moment the creature disappeared from his sight. Lucas eyes widened as it appeared right in front of him, the spear image reflecting in his eyes, heading right towards his heart.
In that moment time seemed to stop, as if these were his final moments, memories started to appear one by one, then someone's face appeared last, Allison. He thought of her beautiful smile, and his time spent with her. Lucas realized that he had a reason to live, now he truly belonged in this world. His gaze snapped back open, he shifted his body with all his might, then the sharp spear ripped right through his shoulder, missing his heart. The sharp and familiar tearing pain made Lucas teeth grind in agony.

His eyes filled with fury as he stared right at the creature, Lucas then kicked it with all his might, as he used his hand to pull apart the spear embedded in his shoulder. The creature reacted in the nick of time, pulling the spear away while retreating to a safe distance. Argh! Lucas eyes grimaced in pain as the spearhead left his shoulder, he gritted his teeth and quickly got up.
Then Lucas ran with all his might towards the path he came from. The creature, thinking Lucas wanted to escape, quickly followed him. As he was running Lucas heard the sound of air being cut, he took cover right behind a tree. The creature spear had such force that half of the tree was cut off clean, Lucas desperately increased his speed, not even wasting time to look back. The creature roared, starting to get enraged by Lucas. Looking at Lucas running away, it felt impatient, not wanting to waste more time.
It raised the spear high, and with all its force threw it right towards Lucas. Feeling that dreadful sense of danger, Lucas stopped wanting to get cover, but this time it was too late. The spear went right through his stomach, Lucas looked down feeling a sense of déjà vu, his throat coughed up a mouthful of blood, Lucas clothes were already stained in blood from all sides. Lucas stood there, with a face filled with pain and no strength to move. The creature slowly walked towards him, as if Lucas was already dead.
Lucas raised his head, and asked confusedly.
"Why are you doing this?!" The creature stopped, its face finally showing some emotion, it was rage and deep hatred.
"Why?! Because all of you Ashfords deserve to die!!" Its thunderous voice resounded through the now silent forest. Lucas tired face was now filled with confusion, then he remembered that there could be only one reason why a shapeshifter would hate a hunter's family.
"Someone you cared for was killed by an Ashford!" His face twisted into a smile. Then Lucas started laughing, blood spilled from his mouth while he continued laughing as if he had found the most amusing thing in the world. The creature eyes were filled with fury, then it started running towards Lucas with all of its strength.
Lucas eyes narrowed as he calculated the distance, when the creature was only two meters away from him, he took a step back, then without hesitation he took the pouch linked to his belt, opened it, and threw it at the ground. The creature came to a sudden stop as it hit a blue barrier with all of its might, a shout of pain escaped from its mouth. Its eyes widened in horror looking at Lucas.
"Mountain ash! How could you do this!" In all of its long years of living it had never heard of a shapeshifter using mountain ash, let alone making a barrier. Then as if struck by lightning, it remembered when Lucas first came in the forest, he kept crouching on the ground in this exact spot. Lucas grinned, then gripped the spear, and with all his might pulled it from his stomach. Pain filled his nerves, as Lucas felt all the muscles in his body twitching.
"Life is full of wonders, for example you, a skinwalker far away from its sacred place." Then Lucas approached the barrier, gripping the spear tightly in his left hand, then asked.
"What did my family do?" His tone seemed genuinely curious. The skinwalker smashed the barrier one more time as if wanting to hit him, the distance between them was only a hair away. Then with hatred in its eyes she recalled as she started speaking.
"Your grandfather…." BANG. The sound of a bullet stopped her right in her tracks, she looked at Lucas in shock. She touched the middle of her eyebrows, feeling a hole right through her head, then looked at Lucas as if asking why he asked in the first place.
"What a touching story." Lucas wiped his nonexistent tears from his eyes.
"You can go and tell the rest to my family." Lucas then lunged the spear into her heart.
