A wave of wind hit Derek right before Lucas's claws arrived at his throat. His body muscles twitched as he evaded the blow with all the strength he could muster.
"SHRRRK!" Lucas's claws ripped right through the tree behind him, splinters exploding into the air. This made Derek involuntarily close his eyes, but that one gesture earned him a blow to the chest.
"THUD!" His entire body was sent flying, stopping right into a tree. The blow made Derek cough in pain. He slowly got up from the ground, his red eyes gazing at Lucas in fury, or at least what seemed to be him. Lucas's face was constantly contracting, as if something was trying to break out. Silvery-white veins spread all over his body, his entire figure illuminating that part of the forest.
"ROOOOAR!" Derek roared furiously at him, the growing strength he felt making him feel invincible. The two collided head-on. Lucas took four steps backwards, with each one, his feet penetrated deeper into the ground. Derek, on the other hand, only took one step back, the effect of becoming an Alpha could be seen clearly. A grin formed on his face, exhilarated by his advantage.
"You can't beat me!" The two brawled again. Although Derek had an advantage in terms of speed, his claws didn't seem to have much effect on Lucas's skin. This made Derek even more frustrated. He had finally gotten what he wanted, he had become an Alpha. But now Lucas was standing against him. He didn't even know why he was so furious. Besides, he hadn't even had a close relationship with Peter to begin with. Reading on Amazon or a pirate site? This novel is from Royal Road. Support the author by reading it there.
Lucas's mind was filled only with killing intent, as if his real consciousness was slowly sinking deeper. He didn't give Derek a chance to breathe and began attacking again. His clothes were now in pieces from Derek's attacks. But Derek, on the other hand, was slowly gaining more wounds on his body. He huffed heavily as he realized that the fight was getting nowhere. Lucas was clearly more durable than him, and he didn't really want to find out what the ending was going to be.
His eyes were already scanning for a possible route of escape.
"WHOOSH" Before Derek could observe further, an arrow embedded itself in his back.
"Arghhh!" The tearing of his muscles made him cry out in pain. Allison swiftly took aim, pointing towards his figure. Although she was dying of worry over Lucas's out-of-control behavior, she wouldn't allow Derek to hurt him. Derek glanced at her while gritting his teeth in pain. Seeing that she was going to shoot again, he finally made the decision to retreat. He turned his back and ran with all his strength into the forest, not giving Lucas even a chance to follow him.
Clearly, he was quite experienced in this regard. Lucas's face was confused for a second, then switched targets very quickly. His pulsing eyes settled on Scott's figure. At that moment, Scott's body stiffened. Having just pulled the arrow out of his body, he now found Lucas staring ferociously at him. The moment Lucas lunged towards Scott, a figure stepped forward between them. Scott looked at Allison in shock. She was the person he least expected to defend him.
Allison's face hardened in the face of the charging Lucas. She wasn't doing it because she was close with Scott. She was worried that Lucas would regret what he might do, and she could sense it in his eyes. The Lucas she knew was clearly disappearing. Allison opened her arms as if welcoming him, her eyes closed, with a tear running down each cheek. Scott and Kate, who were watching this, gasped in shock, especially Kate, who closed her eyes in pain.
Just as Lucas's claws almost reached her eyes, they suddenly stopped. His arm trembled constantly as if it were being held back by something. His face twitched as agonizing pain spread throughout his body. The silvery veins on his body pulsed, then slowly started receding back into his left eye. Lucas then opened his eyes in shock, staring at Allison in sorrow. He had almost killed the woman who meant the most to him.
He knelt on the ground helplessly, staring at his own hands in a daze, wondering if he had become a monster. Feeling nothing, Allison opened her eyes, her face lighting up in joy as she saw his face returning to normal. She threw herself at him, hugging him with all her strength, tears of joy streaming from her eyes. Lucas's body froze for a second, then relaxed. He buried his head into her chest, afraid to look into her eyes and see disappointment.
His hands trembled slightly, then wrapped his arms around her waist. The familiar smell of flowers started calming his agitated mood.
