Lucas stared at the bodies in silence for a couple of minutes, still not seeing a change in his ability, he shook his head. A part of him wished that this would work too, but another part of him knew that it could lead to him becoming something that he couldn't recognize anymore. Lucas then gathered all the bodies and put gasoline on them. The fire was dazzling in the dark forest. The point was to burn as much evidence as he could. If he just buried the bodies, they could be found at one point.
Now even their faces could not be identified for some time. Lucas then glanced at Severo's car, then at the bodies. An idea formed in his mind. After waiting an hour for the bodies to stop burning, Lucas grabbed them with a disgusted expression and moved them all to the car. Of course, he didn't forget to take his spear from the trunk. After driving for a couple of minutes, he arrived in front of a lake. Observing that the water was deep enough, Lucas accelerated towards it.
Just before the car could hit the water, he jumped out of it.
"Splash!" He patted his clothes while looking at the sinking car. It didn't take long for him to get back to his car. Without wasting time, he drove straight to the hunters' place of gathering. •••• Lucas observed the bar and its surroundings carefully. Seeing no one in the vicinity, he entered. There was only a dim light by the bar. It was the old man, still wiping the old whiskey glasses. The sound of the door opening made him look curiously at the entrance, but nothing was there.
This sight instantly put him on alert, and he swiftly grabbed his shotgun from underneath the counter. This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.
"For someone your age, you should be more relaxed…" A chill ran down his spine at the sound behind his back. He twisted his body and pointed the shotgun straight at the man behind him. The old man was surprised when he laid eyes on Lucas, who was now leaning leisurely beside the bottles of alcohol.
"If you're here… that means…?" His voice was slightly grave. He sensed that a storm was coming.
"Lay down the gun, old man… and bend the knee." Lucas swirled his finger around the bottles without even paying attention to the gun. The old man grabbed his shotgun tighter while still pointing it at him. He spoke in a rough and demanding tone:"What makes you think I will not just shoot you?!" Lucas glanced back at him with a dismissive smile.
"Do it!" The old man's face grimaced. He stared deeply into Lucas unwavering eyes, then looked around as if searching for something.
"Damn it!" He lowered his shotgun in frustration. He didn't know why, but his intuition told him not to do it.
"If I was just a bit younger… I would've kicked your ass!" The old man turned around and muttered while still cursing him out. Meanwhile, Lucas smiled at his antics. The old man was the one he needed to keep this place in check.
"My grandfather wrote about you. Why would the mighty Steven Black allow the Mexicans to take control of this hub of hunters?" Steven grumbled at his slightly sarcastic tone.
"I'm an old man! I am too old for a war!"
"Are there more Calavera men inside?" Lucas pointed his finger towards the back.
"No! The ones guarding the entrance are my people. The Calaveras have other locations to worry about, so they can't concentrate more men here." Lucas nodded. He felt that there were fewer men stationed there than he expected.
"What about the bartender? I forgot her name." Steven gave him a cold look at the mention of that girl.
"That's my granddaughter, Mary!" Lucas smiled at the old man's protectiveness. He only cared if the Calavera Family was gone from here.
"You know that once she finds out you killed her son, she will bring an army upon you!" Steven's tone shifted, giving him a serious warning.
"Yeah, what a pity…" Steven raised his eyebrows at him, wondering if he had really started getting afraid, but what he said next made his expression darken.
"What a pity… a glorious family of hunters will soon cease to exist." Lucas shook his head as if really mourning for the Calavera Family. Lucas then threw them out of his mind and concentrated on more important matters.
"What's the revenue of this place?"
"Revenue? Almost nothing!" Steven scoffed at his imagination, then continued.
"You just began a war with the revenue. The Calaveras were providing weapons and selling them here to mercenaries and hunters."
"Our information network can provide some money, but it's not stable." Lucas remained silent for a moment at his response. If this place ceased to provide weapons and support of that nature to people, they would slowly stop coming here.
"I have someone in mind who could help us."
