What he saw made him speechless and shocked at the same time. The space was filled with gold bars of various sizes and shapes; some were in perfect shape, others looked very old but still shone brightly. His hand brushed against the captivating yellow bars, which were stacked in perfect order, from the smallest to the biggest. He soon broke from the shock.
'This will solve a lot of problems for me, from the looks of it, this gold is worth at least a million dollars.' His expression brightened, as this was the first time he saw this amount of money, and being gold, the sight was even more magnificent. He then focused on other things that were inside: the deed to the house, and a paper with information on a banking account. Which seemed to have a hundred thousand dollars in the account.
His expression remained calm at this number; after all, there was a pile of gold in front of him, but this would be more helpful, as gold is more precious than some printed paper. Although the world has supernatural beings, it doesn't mean that a financial crisis does not exist, especially this year, which will be one of the most catastrophic ones in history. Well, if history is at least the same as the world he came from.
He then took the paper with the banking account, and he swiftly closed the door to the underground safe, then proceeded to put the carpet back in its original place.
'Tomorrow I need to go to the bank, open a new account, and transfer the money to it.' He then went to his room, took a shower, and went to sleep. Morning, next day. He opened his eyes, a relaxed expression on his face as he muttered, "I guess money does make you happy." He got up, washed his face, then dressed up. Since he had a lot of things to do today, he called the school to take a sick day. One hour later. He entered the bank. Seeing it was empty, he walked towards the clerk.
"How can I help you, sir?" the man asked in a cheerful voice.
"I need a new banking account with a debit card, and to transfer the inheritance money from my grandfather's account to the new one." He proceeded to give him all the necessary documents.
"This will take a couple of days, and the card will be delivered soon. Do you need anything else?" Lucas nodded.
"I want half of the money now in cash." Enjoying this book? Seek out the original to ensure the author gets credit. The clerk was surprised, but he nodded. The money was stored in their bank, so the process didn't take days. After an hour of waiting, his money was delivered in a black suitcase. He thanked the clerk, and then he left for his next location, which was the car dealership. Soon he arrived. Seeing him so young, the manager raised an eyebrow, but still greeted him with a polite smile.
"How can I help you, sir?" Looking at the manager, he told him his intentions.
"I want to buy a car." Without wasting time, he opened the suitcase, which was filled with money. He didn't have time for cliché moments. Seeing the money, the man's smile deepened as if his father had come in bringing gifts.
"Of course, let me show you what we have." He then showed him one car after another. Soon, he arrived in front of a particular one, with a beautiful gray color and black stripes in the middle and on the sides.
"I will buy this one. Tell me more about it." The manager nodded as he began explaining.
"This is a special edition Porsche 911 GT3 R. S 4. 0, with 500 horsepower, priced at $140, 000. If you pay upfront $40, 000, this can be yours." After hearing this, he didn't hesitate any longer and decided to buy it. After finishing the paperwork and giving the upfront payment, the key was obtained. Then Lucas entered the car, driving away while increasing the speed.
'Now what remains to do is fix my weaknesses; after all, the best hunter uses everything at his disposal.' After 30 minutes, he arrived at his last stop, which was the most important. The shooting range. Handling and shooting firearms is one of his weaknesses, which will prove fatal if not fixed. He stepped out of the car, his eyes scanning the area briefly before entering. Inside, the sharp smell of gunpowder lingered in the air, mixed with the constant echo of gunshots.
Lucas walked forward calmly, approaching the counter.
"I need an instructor." The man behind the counter looked at him for a moment, then nodded.
"First time?" Lucas didn't bother lying.
"Yes." The man gestured towards someone at the far end.
"Talk to him." Lucas turned his gaze, spotting a middle-aged man with a firm posture, watching over a few shooters. He walked towards him.
"I need someone to teach me how to properly use firearms." The instructor looked at him, scanning him from head to toe, judging.
"You ever held a gun before?"
"Once." The man scoffed lightly.
"Alright, then we start from zero." He handed Lucas a pistol.
"Grip. Stance. Breathing. Don't rush." Lucas listened carefully, adjusting his posture exactly as instructed.
"Now shoot." He pulled the trigger. The recoil pushed slightly against his hand, but his grip remained steady. The shot landed off-center.
"Too stiff," the instructor said immediately.
"Relax your shoulders, and bring the gun to your eye level; do not lower your head." Lucas adjusted again according to his teaching. Second shot. Closer. Third. Even closer. The instructor narrowed his eyes slightly, noticing the fast adjustment.
"Again." Lucas kept shooting. Each shot improving. Each movement more precise. Within minutes, his grouping tightened. The instructor crossed his arms, now paying full attention.
"…You learn fast." Lucas didn't answer, his focus entirely on the target. After a while, the instructor switched the weapon.
"Try this." An assault rifle. He explained briefly, then stepped back. Lucas held it firmly, adjusting to the weight. He fired. The recoil was stronger, but his body absorbed it naturally. His stance remained stable. Shot after shot. Controlled. Certainly not perfect. But far better than a beginner should be. The instructor's expression changed slightly as he looked at him with surprise.
"…Not bad." Hours passed. From pistol to rifle. From basic shots to controlled bursts. Lucas didn't rush. He adapted. Every correction was instantly applied. Every mistake reduced. By the end of the session, his movements became smoother. More natural. Not to say he became an expert, but his aim was way better than the first time he used a gun. This was no longer a big weakness, and with time and practice, soon he will be proficient. As he lowered the weapon, a quiet thought crossed his mind.
'With this… there will be no more hesitation next time I hunt.'
