Entering the house, a fresh smell of lavender hit his nose. Lucas observed the walls for a second before turning his attention back towards Allison. He followed her straight to the kitchen. Being here again sparked memories of his last visit.
"Welcome!" Chris walked towards them with a faint smile on his face. Lucas observed his smile for a moment, then looked into his eyes, which seemed genuinely happy to see him.
"It's good to see you again, Mr. Argent!" Chris waved his hand.
"Please call me Chris." Lucas nodded, not bothering with his overly kind attitude. Chris then led them to the table. There, Victoria was already sitting.
"It's good to see you, Mrs. Argent. I've been eager to try your cooking again." Lucas gave her a slight smile while complimenting her cooking. For the second part at least, he was honest. Victoria gave him a brief nod as she stared at his face for a second before looking away. Noticing this scene, Allison could only smile awkwardly. She thought that her mother would at least try to be more friendly. After all of them were seated, they started eating. Unlike last time, this time it was in complete silence.
Finishing eating, Chris put the fork on the table. The sound of it brought everyone's attention to him. He slowly wiped his mouth, then turned his focus on Lucas.
"So Lucas, what are your intentions towards my little girl?"
"Dad!" Allison stared at him, constantly warning him with her eyes. Enjoying this book? Seek out the original to ensure the author gets credit. Lucas raised his eyebrows at Chris's forward question. He observed Chris for a second, then replied in a relaxed tone.
"Of course, nothing but good. After all, what bad intentions could a teenager have?" Chris stared at him in silence. Clearly, this was not the answer he was looking for. From Lucas's body language, Chris perceived complete indifference. He then got up, stared at him for a second, then spoke, "Let's go have a private discussion." Lucas nodded. As he was getting up, he felt a pull on his arm. It was Allison. She looked at him with slight worry in her eyes.
He gently placed his hand on hers, reassuring her, then followed Chris towards the garage. When he entered, Lucas couldn't help but notice the displayed guns on the wall. He then approached Chris. Looking over his shoulder, Chris saw Lucas close enough. His body tensed, then suddenly he turned towards Lucas, slamming him into the wall.
"What's your goal, Ashford?! Getting close to Allison for what?!" Chris's smile disappeared completely. He stared coldly at Lucas while his arm was pressing against his chest. Lucas looked down at his chest, then at the angry Chris, then replied: "Here I thought I would have some bonding with my father-in-law." Veins were slightly appearing on Chris's forehead.
"Tell me!"
"You can believe what you want, but except for Allison, I don't really care about your Argent family." He then looked at the arm that was still pressing against his chest. The joking expression on his face slowly faded away. His eyes narrowed, then he spoke in a cold but amused tone: "The last time an Argent went up against an Ashford, it didn't end well for him." Seeing Chris's darkened expression upon hearing this, Lucas smiled, then asked him with concern on his face: "Oh, I forgot, how is your father, Gerard?"
Chris's teeth clenched. He stared coldly at Lucas. His eyes averted for a second before focusing on him again.
"You know, one should retire when he gets too old. After all, being crazy and a hunter at the same time is not good at all." Lucas spoke, still trying to get on Chris's nerves, then as if remembering something, he continued.
"Of course, except my dear grandfather. He followed our code till his death. You can't say otherwise about certain hunters." When the last words came out of his mouth, his gaze stared coldly at Chris. Lucas's eyes briefly observed his neck, then he shook his head inwardly, abandoning that thought. He slowly reached with his hand towards Chris's arm. When he grabbed it, Chris's face contracted slightly. Lucas then threw his arm away with no effort, making Chris take a few steps back in the process.
Lucas's sarcastic voice was heard again in the silent garage: "See? Old men should retire from being hunters." Chris's eyes widened as he stared at him while massaging his aching arm. Click. The door slowly opened. It was Allison.
"Is something wrong?" Although looking at both of them, Lucas knew she was concerned for him.
"Everything's fine, your father was just telling me about your archery tournaments." While speaking, he grabbed Chris, bringing him closer. Chris's body stiffened at his gesture. He could only give a very awkward smile to Allison. Allison looked suspiciously at them, not believing a word of what she heard.
