Chương 54: Bestiary

In the box, there was an all-black leather body armor. Her eyes drifted all around its corners. By the design, it was obvious for her, so she turned her head towards Lucas.

"Ahem." Not giving Lucas a chance, John brought the attention towards him.

"This is military-grade armor. Although it looks light, it's very strong, especially against stuff like knives, but it can stop bullets too." Her eyes sparkled. She touched the armor, then asked:"This must have cost a fortune…?"

"Around…" John opened his mouth to speak, but Lucas gestured with his hand for him to stop. Allison smiled sweetly seeing this. She walked to Lucas and kissed him.

"Thank you." She whispered under her breath while gazing into his eyes. He gently stroked her face, then looked at John.

"Don't worry, I didn't forget your pay." John smiled brightly, unbothered by the romantic atmosphere. Only the smell of money could turn him on. Lucas went to his bag. From within, he took a small wooden box. Then he handed the box to John. Both Allison and John looked at it curiously. When John opened the box, the item inside surprised him slightly. It was two shining gold bars, about the size of a small box of matches. When he studied the gold closer, he saw that it was 24k pure gold. His hand trembled slightly.

He gazed at Lucas hesitantly.

"This is almost double…" You could be reading stolen content. Head to the original site for the genuine story. Lucas smiled slightly, then put his hand on John's shoulder.

"You need it more than me. Don't let pride get in the way." John's face struggled visibly. Then he took one more look at him and finally accepted the box.

"Thank you." Lucas patted his shoulder, then turned his attention back to Allison.

"We're done for today. Let's go." Allison nodded, then packed her things away. After half an hour, they arrived at his house. Allison looked at him hesitantly.

"Why are we here?" He smiled slightly.

"Of course, to see if the body armor fits." Her cheeks blushed slightly, then she nodded. When they were about to enter his room, she stopped him.

"Stay here, and don't peek." Then the door was slammed right before his eyes. He could only helplessly wait outside. A few minutes later, the door opened again. The moment his gaze landed on her, he froze.

"So, what do you think?" She spun around to show the body armor. Lucas's eyes studied every part of her body. The armor was very light, tightly fitting her body. The all-black leather made her appear more majestic.

"What do you thi…" Before she could continue, Lucas grabbed her slender waist with his left hand, then slammed the door behind him. Silence remained in the hallway, only occasional noises getting out of the room. ==== Morning came quickly. Lucas and Allison had just arrived at school. Being late, they hurried to class. Both of them had chemistry together. Arriving at the door, they entered quickly, but the teacher was right in front of them.

"Mr. Ashford, Ms. Allison, you finally graced us with your presence." He gently touched his glasses, then remarked sarcastically, without his expression changing a bit. Allison looked around awkwardly, while Lucas carefully studied him.

"Allison, do you smell something?" She gazed at him in confusion.

"Not really." Lucas continued while staring intently at the teacher.

"The smell of something burning." While Allison still had question marks in her head, the teacher's face hardened, clenching his fists for a moment, then he quickly controlled his temper. Right before walking past him, Lucas put a hand on his shoulder and whispered something to him.

"The past is closer than you think." Then Lucas went to his seat, not looking at the teacher anymore. Class time passed by quickly. Now Lucas and Allison were in the cafeteria eating. After they finished, Lucas pushed a book towards Allison.

"I think I saw you read this. What kind of book is it?" She observed the book carefully. What was striking was the emblem with his family's crest on it.

"It's my family's bestiary. It records all kinds of shapeshifters. This could save your life one day." Allison nodded seriously, then opened the book. Its pages recorded all kinds of monsters. She didn't expect that there were so many types of shapeshifters. While she was reading, Lucas was thinking about Peter.

'Now that he saw me, I'm on his radar too.' He knew that he needed to start preparing to hunt Peter, or he would be hunted instead. Lucas wondered what Peter's next move would be. Then the chemistry teacher, Mr. Harris, came to mind. Along with Allison's aunt Kate, she's probably the one that Peter wants dead the most. He then observed Allison, his most likely weakness to be exploited.
