Long Feng's heart was beating rapidly as he stared at the crystal. This was his chance to join the Supreme Heaven Sect... he couldn't lose it. How could this be the limit of his talent? Imperial grade talent? That didn't make sense at all. The talent testing stone seemed to sense Long Feng's fervent emotions and his piercing gaze. Soon, it turned into a very faint bronze glow that flickered like a flame in a storm. A blurry ring of light appeared around the crystal, flickering in and out of existence.
A few seconds later, the bronze glow remained very faint bronze, looking like it would fall back to blue at any time. The ring of light itself was very unstable as well. Long Feng's tense heart relaxed slightly. Even if nothing else, at least it had reached the barest minimum, low rank mortal grade talent, Even though it looked like it would fall back to the Imperial grade at any moment... Long Feng sighed. Although he was relieved, deep in his heart, he was feeling slightly disappointed.
Was this really all he amounted to? Barely able to scrape by? For the first time in a long while, Long Feng felt doubt in his heart, and this doubt wasn't directed at anything but himself. He was doubting himself! And to make things worse...
"Hahahaha! Low rank mortal grade! Oh my God!"
"I'm dying of laughter here! This trash talent is what wants to join our sect?"
"Look at the glow. It looks like it's tired of living! Hahahaha! What all grand show!"
"Lord Ao's son is such a a trash! And here I thought he would be someone with ten arms to make Lord Ao personally recommended him!"
"What Lord Ao's son? He's just some ordinary brat. Although my talent was also low rank mortal grade, it was far more stable than this bullshit!"
"Indeed. And we have several mid and high rank mortal grade talents. Hell, we have earth grade talents and Senior brother Bei Xuanchen is a legendary Heaven grade talent! This brat is completely inferior to us all in every way!"
"Why are you comparing this thing to senior brother Bei? Senior brother Bei is a Core disciple! He is one of the prodigies of the entire mainland!"
"That's right. It's an insult to senior brother Bei. Even here in the outer peak, any random person would be better than this trash in terms of talent, strength and probably everything else."
"He's probably a flower in a greenhouse. Look at him, looking so handsome. To think it's all for naught? What a joke!" Long Feng listened to all these silently while his self doubt grew. It grew so much that his heart demon showed signs of stirring up again. Then suddenly, his ethereal sword heart stirred and his will began to blaze, suppressing everything.
"To hell with talent. Trash? I've held that title for a long time back in the Long clan anyways. Talent or not, I will not falter on my path. I will become strong. Strong enough to make no one dare to look down on me again. Strong enough to completely clear this curse of trash and weakness from myself." He closed his eyes and said this in his heart. A swordsman had an unyielding will, one that wouldn't be changed by anyone, wouldn't bow to anything.
He didn't understand why his talent was so low, and he didn't need to understand. Whatever the reason was, it didn't matter. He wouldn't be restricted by this. The fact that Long Feng suddenly doubted himself and got affected by the words of others proved that he was far from being a true swordsman. This book's true home is on another platform. Check it out there for the real experience.
He took a deep breath and turned to the Head Warden, ignoring the disdainful, mocking and ridiculing words of the youths gathered around.
"Senior, have I passed?" He asked quietly. The Head Warden recovered from his shock of the ridiculous talent and was amazed at Long Feng's calmness. This wasn't something one would see everyday. Such exquisite control of the emotions was extremely rare even among some old timers.
"That's right. You've... passed this test." He replied after hesitating. This result was really far too low. The ring of light was basically about to break apart. But considering Lord Ao's face, he didn't say anything and simply passed Long Feng. Long Feng sighed softly. This was all he wanted. As long as he passed this, then his chances were that much higher.
"Then can we move to the next?" He asked softly. The Head Warden nodded and cast a deep glance at Long Feng. This kid... he suddenly had a feeling that he was far from ordinary. Just his level of control over his emotions was rather scary.
"Right! Come on." The Head Warden led Long Feng over to the warrior tower and they stood before the entrance.
"This is the warrior tower. It is used to test the strength and combat power of the disciples, and it is used during the entrance test. You simply need to sit down before the stone stele and send your spirit energy and consciousness into it. You will be teleported into another place and all you need to do is to try your best to survive and advance. The result is recorded in scores based on how many you kill and how long you survive.
The thousand names you see on the stele are the best in he outer peak, each having strength of at least the peak Imperial realm to the deity realm. You don't need to think too much about them. Your requirement to join the sect is to get a thousand points. Rank one Imperials give you ten points, and rank two give twenty, untill early stage deity realm which grants a hundred points. The longer you stay in there, the more bonus points you'll receive.
Once you exit, the stele will briefly show your points for everyone to see." The Head Warden explained. Long Feng listened to every word and nodded to show his understanding.
"Death in there isn't real. It will merely weaken you for a while, so do not worry if you die." The Head Warden added. This time though, his tone suddenly lacked the amusement he had before, even though Long Feng's first test was completely ridiculous. Long Feng didn't reply. He simply walked over to the stone stele and sat down cross legged, then began to transfer his spirit energy into the stone stele.
"Heh. The idiot really thinks he can survive the warrior tower?"
"I bet he wouldn't last a second. He'll be eliminated instantly!"
"That's not anything. The weakest in there are rank one Imperials! And they rise in cultivation and numbers. What makes a mere rank five spirit realm trash think he can survive a single second in there?" The youths watched with amusement as they waited for Long Feng to embarrass himself. The stele began to glow slightly and then Long Feng sent his consciousness in next. The world around him blurred and he found himself in a slightly dark space. He couldn't tell exactly how large this space was.
Before he could think deeply, a shelf suddenly appeared before him with rows of various weapons arranged on it, from swords to sabers, spears, halberds, axes, machetes, bows and arrows, hammers and everything one could think of. Long Feng didn't hesitate to pick the longsword among them all and held it tightly. The shelve then vanished silently with the other weapons.
After a few seconds, Long Feng suddenly sensed the appearance of a rank one Imperial realm aura in this dark space and a humanoid figure dressed in black robes walked out of the shadows and stared at Long Feng silently.
"Rank one Imperial huh? Impressive. Let's see how strong you are." Long Feng smiled and didn't wait for the figure to make a move. He charged forward and swung the sword he was wielding. The figure tried to react and parry the attack but he was just too slow. He was sliced into two by Long Feng's sword and collapsed to the floor. The corpse then broke into tiny motes of light that vanished. Immediately after, three auras appeared again. All three of them were rank one Imperials.
"Using numbers? Good idea. Unfortunately, it won't work." Long Feng smirked and charged forward, swinging his sword. Seconds later, all three figures were in pieces. Before Long Feng could breath, five auras appeared, an one of them was a rank two Imperial while the others were rank one Imperials.
"Seriously? Would this keep increasing this way untill deities appear or what?" Long Feng frowned slightly. If that was what would happen, then he would have to conserve his energy as much as he could because he couldn't recover it here. Without waiting, he attacked and swiftly decapitated the five figures while trying his best to avoid wasting too much energy. Then five more figures appeared, and two of them were rank two Imperials while the other three were rank one Imperials.
Moreover, two wild beasts appeared as well, both of them being rank one Imperials as well. Long Feng grinned and charged forward then swung his sword wildly.
Outside the warrior tower, the youths stared at Long Feng's body that was seated cross-legged with his eyes closed and they began to discuss again.
"I say he will come out right now. He just went in."
"That's right. He should be killed right about... now!" Nothing happened. Long Feng was still seated calmly. Many people exchanged glances.
"Hm? What's happening?"
"Have you forgotten that you get to choose a weapon? Give him a few more seconds to jump around."
"Oh yeah. Choosing a weapon can take a few seconds." Several seconds turned into several minutes. Still no movement. Long Feng was still seated without moving at all, meaning he hadn't been killed in the tower yet.
"What's going on? How could he last several minutes? I seem to recall that the weapons shelve would fade away after a minute. It's been about five minutes already!"
"Calm down. He must be really good at running. It's just a rank one Imperial realm warrior."
"Indeed. If you spend several minutes fighting or running, the next group of enemies would come and merge with the current group regardless. That means he would soon face several rank one Imperials. He will be kicked out without doubt." Ten minutes... twenty minutes... Thirty minutes! Thirty whole minutes passed! No one was talking anymore. No one dared to speak. They were all staring at each other and then at Long Feng's figure blankly, their hearts filled with disbelief. The Head Warden wasn't excluded.
His heart was shaken at this moment. How was this possible? How could a rank five spirit realm warrior last thirty minutes in the warrior tower? Luck certainly wouldn't work here. And running? That was a joke. By now, even rank three Imperials should have joined the fray. Could he run away from over a dozen Imperials from rank one to rank three? Impossible! That meant he wasn't running. And if he wasn't running, and he wasn't dead... then he was fighting them? Or even killing them? That didn't make any sense.
What was going on? At the same time, they seemed to realize why Lord Ao would recommend him. This kid might not have the frightening talent of Bei Xuanchen, Li Yue'er and others. But... His strength was certainly not as simple as It seemed on the surface! Indeed. Now that they thought again, when had Lord Ao ever made a wrong choice? He had been the one who brought Bei Xuanchen to the sect! And a few more geniuses were brought as well years ago. Now?
They were the strongest geniuses of the sect, among the core disciples. Even in the whole mainland, they were ranked among the top!
