"Kid, we've arrived at the Mainland!" Ao Zhentian spoke up, waking Long Feng from his meditation.
"It took a bit longer than I thought. A month and a few days." Ao Zhentian added as he strode over to the palace doors that swung open. Long Feng rushed to his feet and followed behind Ao Zhentian. The first thing he sensed upon stepping out of the palace was an exaggeratedly dense natural energy blowing at his face. All his life, Long Feng had never sensed any natural energy so dense in the air before. The thunder sky continent might as well be an abandoned place compared to this.
If he had to give an estimate, then the natural energy her was at least ten times that of the thunder sky continent. And this was the very edge of the mainland, where the natural energy was limited due to its proximity to the Jade Sea! Farther away, the natural energy might double or even triple! The sun was high in the clear sky, releasing it's brilliant rays upon the world. Behind the floating palace was a great cliff of unbelievable height and covered an area vaster than the eyes could see.
Beneath the cliff and into the distant horizon was the raging Jade Sea, extending into the unknown. Long Feng looked around, taking in everything he was seeing and sensing, then he inhaled deeply and smiled. This was the Mainland. He had finally arrived.
"This should be the Northern region. The Eastern region is another two to three weeks journey away, and then a few days to arrive at the Supreme Heaven Sect." Ao Zhentian smiled and explained. Long Feng nodded, marveling at the size of the regions. Ao Zhentian's palace traveled at the speed of the peak Dao realm, yet it would take weeks to transverse the Northern region. That was unbelievable. Also, wasn't this the region of the Frozen Empress Valley? Where Li Yue'er was?
"Come on. Let's go. The sooner we arrive, the sooner you will take the entrance test and join the sect." Ao Zhentian turned around and returned to the palace and Long Feng followed behind him. Just before he stepped in, he paused and looked behind again, then he entered the palace. The large palace shook slightly then sped off at a frightening speed, leaving an explosive sound behind.
The journey took just as Long as Ao Zhentian said. They had to make multiple detours to stay out of the territories of some powerful forces or even some extremely powerful auras. They would occasionally be attacked by wild beasts in some desolate regions but they were all very weak and weren't able to even keep up with the dust of the palace. Long Feng immersed himself in cultivating and comprehending the sword Dao along the way.
His cultivation speed was extremely fast, almost as fast as when he cultivated within the profound mist pond. And the deeper they went, the denser the natural energy became just as he predicted. In this environment where natural energy nearly condensed into raindrops, it would be weird if they couldn't birth several terrifying powerhouses. The continent zone was thousands of miles away from comparing to the mainland, not even close.
A little over two weeks later, Ao Zhentian announced that they had entered the Eastern region of the Mainland. Long Feng finally exited his cultivation and didn't cultivate again for the next few days. His cultivation was stable at rank five spirit realm and he wouldn't be able to have another breakthrough before arriving at the Supreme Heaven Sect, and his sword energy seemed to have reached a bottleneck of some sort. He couldn't reach rank nine Dao concept no matter how hard he tried.
If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it. With this thought, he simply stopped forcing it and accompanied Ao Zhentian for the next few days. Finally, after six days, the palace slowed down greatly and Ao Zhentian stood up with an expressionless face.
"We're here. I will drop you off at the Central Hall of the outer court and someone will lead you through the tests. From now on, your destiny, your life and death depends entirely on your efforts." Ao Zhentian was like an entirely different person, not the bored, leisure and free person he was in the continent zone and during the journey. Instead, he suddenly had a dignified aura that made him seem far above Long Feng's sights. This wasn't an aura that could be faked.
It was something only real powerhouses holding high ranks would ever possess, and Ao Zhentian had it in abundant. Long Feng suddenly felt the air around him tighten and he couldn't even stare at Ao Zhentian's face any longer. The sudden change in personalities left him breathless for a minute before he finally reacted.
"Yes, Senior!" Ao Zhentian nodded calmly then waved his hand and the palace vanished. Both of them appeared outside. Long Feng was astonished by the density of the natural energy here. It could easily be fifty times more than the thunder sky continent! They couldn't even be placed in equal terms. Before them were three huge mountains situated close together. The three mountains towered into the sky and the one in the center had it's peak completely above the clouds.
The mountain to the left was the smallest, and even then, it was massive. Large beautiful birds spread their wings and flew around the three mountains, causing the atmosphere to be reminiscent of a divine land. Each of the mountains were surrounded by faint fog, but even then, Long Feng could spot hundreds of buildings. The left mountain had literally thousands of buildings, while the mountain at the right had far less. The one in the center was completely blocked by the fog and Long Feng couldn't see anything.
When he paid more attention, he noticed that this wasn't normal fog. This was pure natural energy! Natural energy that became fog and hid three mountains behind them! How dense would the energy on the mountains themselves be?
"The left mountain is the Outer Peak. The right mountain Is the Inner peak while the center mountain is the Core peak, only accessible to Core disciples and elders." Ao Zhentian calmly explained after Long Feng finished exploring the area. Then he took a step forward and they vanished, reappearing at the peak of the left mountain. Standing at the snow capped peak, Long Feng could see a tiny portion of the massive world that was Eastern region. But he didn't have the time to admire the scenery.
Aside from the natural energy here that couldn't be described with words, there was a lone magnificent palace built on this peak. It was a massive palace, easily the largest Long Feng had ever seen in his not so long life. An aura that couldn't be described with words seeped out of the walls of the palace, making it clear that this was no ordinary treasure.
There was no one standing guard outside the palace, and Ao Zhentian strode into the open doors and entered the a large hall with Long Feng trailing uncomfortably behind him. In the hall, there was a single large counter, and behind it was an old man snoring away deeply. Ao Zhentian walked over and stood before the counter, staring at the sleeping old man, then he snorted coldly. The sound of his snort was like thunder resounding through the hall, shaking the palace slightly.
The old man jumped up, startled and looked around cautiously. His eyes widened and his caution dissolved into fear and respect when he met Ao Zhentian's cold gaze.
"L-lord Ao?" He exclaimed, then he quickly clasped his fists and bowed.
"Greetings! What brings Lord Ao to this humble Outer Peak?" He asked respectfully while cursing in his heart. If he had known that this man was coming, he wouldn't have dared to sleep even if he had ten times the guts. He thought Lord Ao had left the sect for sometime and hadn't returned? It was rumoured that he simply left to roam around and it was unknown when he would return. To think he came back so quickly? Was he done roaming around in just half a year?
Ao Zhentian stared at the old man coldly for a long minute, causing the old man to sweat profusely before he finally spoke.
"This is a kid I found outside. Let him take the outer disciple entrance test. If he passes, grant him entry into the outer peak." He said in a deep voice. The man looked up in surprise and glanced behind Ao Zhentian, finally noticing Long Feng's presence. He was obviously very surprised about something as he glanced between Long Feng and Ao Zhentian curiously, then he replied cautiously, "Um, Lord Ao, the entrance test ended a year ago. We won't be accepting in the next two years..."
His voice slowly got weaker as he sensed Ao Zhentian's icy gaze on him.
"Get him through the test. I won't repeat myself." Ao Zhentian slowly said, his tone carrying an undeniable dignity and authority. The old man shivered and lowered his head again.
"Yes Lord! I will get it done." He replied in fear. Ao Zhentian then turned around and faced Long Feng.
"If you pass the test, then try your best to become an Inner disciple soon. If not, then it's not your destiny." His stern gaze then softened slightly.
"The mainland is not safe. I will remind you again, when you strike to kill, do not hesitate. He decisive when you swing your sword and show no mercy, otherwise you could lose your life for it. The Supreme Heaven Sect is similarly not safe. The undercurrents flowing in the shadows are beyond your imaginations. Do not offend anyone. Stay low key for as long as you can. If possible, find a long term mission and cultivate while clearing it.
Most importantly, do not ever step out of the Sect unless you have the strength comparable to a deity. Not even the status of an outer disciple of a quasi one star sect can save you." He advised gently using a voice transmission. Long Feng nodded deeply. Ao Zhentian's expression hardened again and he began to head for the doors.
"Watch over him but don't interfere unless his life is threatened. If you fail to do so, then you can only hope to keep your head." His cold voice echoed in the old man's head. The old man's expression changed drastically and he quickly nodded his head repeatedly until Ao Zhentian vanished silently. Then he sighed in relief, wiping the sweat on his forehead and turned his expression to Long Feng, staring at him curiously. Who was this kid for Lord Ao to ask him to each over him? Was he related to Lord Ao?
Or was he his apprentice? It wasn't a secret that Lord Ao was a person who hardly cared about things. For him to ask someone to watch over an unknown kid? Very hard. Yet it happened. After a few minutes, the old man frowned, finding nothing unique about Long Feng. He was beyond ordinary. Apart from his good looks, there didn't seem to be anything else that was good about him. And his cultivation was... rank five spirit realm? The old man blinked and checked again.
Indeed, this was definitely the energy of a rank five spirit realm warrior. But... rank five spirit realm? To pass the test and join the outer peak? Was that a joke? Even normal rank five Imperials would struggle to pass the test. This was simply a huge waste of time. If it wasn't for Lord Ao...
"What's your name kid?" The old man asked grumpily.
"Senior, I am Long Feng."
"Long Feng, you're a rank five spirit realm warrior?"
"That's right." The old man sighed and shook his head. Was Lord Ao joking around? This kid... wouldn't even be allowed into three star forces as an outer disciple.
"Come on. I'll lead you to take the entrance tests." The old man laughed inwardly and said as he walked out from behind the counter and led Long Feng out of the palace.
