Long Feng swept his gaze across the others, instantly knowing who among the other two was Hua Zhi and who was Chen Zhaofeng. Hua Zhi was very much similar to his older brother Hua Zhen in appearance and stature, leaving no room to confuse his identity. As for Chen Zhaofeng, he was rather short with a stout appearance. Both of them barely glanced at Long Feng after he appeared, with Hua Zhi holding his glance for a tiny bit longer before they looked away dispassionately.
Long Feng carefully assessed the two before he withdrew his gaze uncertainly. Even though Zhou Zheng had become a refined early stage deity, Long Feng still didn't see him as a significant threat. Breaking through in such a short time was bound to shake his foundation, weakening his actual power considerably. Moreover, Long Feng was aware of his battle methods and attacks, including the earth shattering true essence and mountain.
Those he was actually wary of were Hua Zhi, Chen Zhaofeng and Ren Ji who was yet to arrive. Just as he thought of the latter, his figure rapidly approached from the distance, drawing everyone's gazes. Ren Ji appeared before them all seconds later in a flowing robe dotted with beautiful flowers. He wore his revoltingly gently smile on his lips, and from a distance, one would find it hard to believe that he wasn't a female.
Not just Long Feng, even the other three found it hard to stare at his smile without feeling disgusted inwardly. On a female, it would a priceless scene. But on a male… Upon his arrival, Ren Ji swept his gaze across everyone with a smile, nodding amiably at each and every one of them, including Long Feng. His eyes contained absolutely no negative emotions as he stared at Long Feng, and he didn't even hold his gaze. It looked like they had never even met before. Long Feng couldn't help but grow more cautious.
This Ren Ji was undoubtedly dangerous, especially due to his ability to flawlessly conceal his emotions even when he clearly possessed killing intent. Ren Ji cleared his throat and began to speak, "Since we're all here, then I shan't waste time. I'll brief you all regarding the mission before we leave." Everyone paid attention. As the group leader, it was natural that Ren Ji would receive the full information and other hidden details and even the exact danger.
"The Teng clan is a small clan that pledged allegiance to the Supreme Heaven Sect years ago in exchange for our protection. Their power isn't too bad, as they are a four star force with Dao realm masters in the clan."
"Unfortunately, three days ago, the entire clan was wiped out overnight. All Dao realm masters were slain, including the clan chief. In a single night, thousands of Teng clan members were slaughtered, including the weak, kids and even mortals." Saying this, Ren Ji's expression squeezed with pain and rage.
"Not mentioning how unforgivable an act this is, it is also an unconcealed challenge to the authority of the Supreme Heaven Sect. Our mission is simply to find whoever is behind this evil act, and the Deacons will naturally take action to rid the world off such heretics." He spoke with great zeal, as though he only hated that he couldn't personally rid the world of the so called heretics. Long Feng sank into thoughts, realizing the risk of this mission.
The Teng clan supposedly had Dao realm masters, yet they were all killed with none of them being able to escape. This story has been unlawfully obtained without the author's consent. Report any appearances on Amazon. Even if they were all early stage Dao masters, such silent deaths was still unusual. At least a late stage Dao realm master would be required to achieve that. Of course, several mid stage Dao realm masters could do it as well. The point was…
how exactly was a bunch of mid ranking deities supposed to track down the killer? And what if they did and they got exposed? Long Feng wasn't yet delusional enough to think they could escape the detection of a Dao realm master. Wouldn't they all join the Teng clan in the heavens? The sect should definitely know about this. Or was there something else which Ren Ji wasn't saying?
"I don't see how we'll be able to track down someone capable of slaughtering an entire clan with Dao realm leaders." Chen Zhaofeng spoke the doubts in each of their hearts. Who would be willing to go on a suicide mission after all?
"Relax you all." Ren Ji laughed softly, raising disgust within the four youths.
"The killer must have fled long ago, but the deacons naturally can't personally investigate and question those neighboring clans."
"The Teng clan's annihilation has caused unrest among the other weaker clans and cities around there. We will be going to stabilize their hearts, ensuring them that the sect will protect them. Most importantly, we'll dig out clues. It could be anyone, even the surrounding clans."
"And if we can't uncover anything?" Long Feng asked quietly.
"In that case, we can return safely. The rewards naturally won't compare to if we find out something, but it'll still be enough to satisfy us all." Ren Ji replied. His explanation made them all calm down slightly and there weren't any more questions.
"Since we're all clear, then we can leave. We'll head to the heaven reflection city beneath the mountain and use the teleportation formation there to shorten the distance." Ren Ji took the lead, moving quickly towards the base of the mountain. An hour later, they descended from the mountain and were finally able to fly after leaving the range of the flight restricting formation.
They all turned into streaks of light and shot into the sky, speeding towards the heaven reflection city at their top speed and quickly leaving the three heaven reaching mountains of the supreme heaven sect behind. The wind blew past their ears as they moved, and all of them with the exception of Zhou Zheng couldn't help but glance behind at Long Feng who was keeping up with their full speed with ease. His expression was completely calm, meaning he wasn't even pushing himself to his limits.
Considering that they could all sense the Imperial spirit energy flowing within his veins, it came as a huge surprise that he wasn't left far behind. Zhou Zheng stared at their expressions and snorted coldly. He hated Long Feng, but he couldn't help but admit that the latter was a monster. If his speed alone was surprising them, then what would they do if they saw his strength?
"Brother Long Feng sure has a deep foundation. I haven't seen an Imperial as unique as you." Ren Ji giggled as he spoke, causing goosebumps to rise on Long Feng's skin.
"Foundation? What a joke. He merely as a good movement technique. It's nothing special." Hua Zhi snorted abruptly before speeding up and leaving the others behind.
"Hahah, brother Long Feng shouldn't mind brother Hua. He is like this outwardly but he's rather nice inside." Ren Ji laughed. Long Feng scrunched his face as he grew annoyed of the latter.
"Just call me Long Feng."
"If you say so." Ren Ji smiled with a tinge of playfulness in his eyes.
"It's so unfortunate that Xiao Hu isn't here to protect you this time, is he?" He suddenly said this in a whisper before flying off, leaving Long Feng behind. Long Feng slowed down with a cold expression as he stared at Ren Ji's back before resuming his flight at a casual pace. After about two hours of non stop flight, the huge heaven reflection city appeared in their line of sight. As they approached it, Ren Ji glanced at them.
"We should turn our robes to be ordinary to avoid drawing attention." Their robes had the unique symbol of an inner disciple, which would draw unwanted attention in the city. With a thought, they all changed the robes to different ordinary colors while concealing the symbol using the formation embedded in the robes. They instantly looked like a casual group of cultivators approaching the city, similar to several others.
When they reached the city, they all revealed their tokens without drawing attention to avoid having to follow the long entrance line. It didn't take long for them to get to the teleportation formation, and the man watching over it greeted them respectfully after seeing their tokens.
"Where to, young masters?" He asked as he activated the teleportation formation.
"The nearest city to the Teng clan city please. Thank you." Ren Ji flashed a beautiful smile at the man, causing him to blink a few times before he set the directions.
"Have a safe trip!" He clasped his fists as the runes lit up and the teleportation formation whirled to life. The essence stones powering it turned to dust in a moment and the blinding light surfaced, teleporting the youths hundreds of miles away.
In a large city far away, the teleportation formation suddenly glowed and five youths appeared. After taking a moment to disperse the effects of the teleportation, they rushed out of the hall and no one stopped them after glancing at the tokens they held.
"Where to now? Do we rest and begin tomorrow or…" Ren Ji glanced at the others and asked, but Long Feng responded before he finished speaking.
"Let's head over to the clan now and begin. It's already been days. Any evidence is unlikely to last much longer, and I have other things to do." No one refuted him, so Ren Ji nodded.
"Very well. We'll head to the Teng clan right now." He faced his front and took the lead, concealing the chill in his eyes that was growing colder by the second. They flew out of this city and followed Ren Ji's lead, as he alone knew the direction of the Teng city. The journey lasted for several hours before they arrived, causing them all to be speechless at the distance. This was after the teleportation formation already shortened the distance by ninety nine percent!
If they had to fly over from the sect, then even two months wouldn't be enough. The eastern region was just too large.
"That's the Teng city over there." Ren Ji pointed at a medium sided city in the distance. Within an incense stick worth of time, they landed at the city gates and walked in. Instantly, they were all taken aback by the sheer emptiness of the city. Very few living auras could be sensed within the entire city, not more than a hundred, and the city at its worst before had thousands of people. And these remaining people were either extremely weak, unable to relocate safely, or mortals entirely.
They would die if they dared to stray too far from the city, which was why they were still here. Of course, every day was spent in fear.
"How can a city be so empty?" Zhou Zheng gasped.
"What a dumb question. If the city lord of the heaven reflection city got killed overnight, would you dare to enter the city?" Hua Zhi snorted, causing a look of embarrassment to appear on Zhou Zheng's face.
