Early the next day, Long Feng left his pavilion and went to the Missions Hall. Along the way, he met numerous disciples along the way, and each of them had extreme look of caution and awe in their eyes when they looked at him. Long Feng could be considered as the most popular person in the outer peak as of the moment, mostly due to his shocking feat of killing Bai Lixi, a rank eight Imperial realm master with his peak spirit realm cultivation and partly due to his sword intent comprehension.
His overall strength was estimated to be among the top five hundred, and no one was sure if that was the full extent of his strength. Perhaps he was still holding back. If so, then his strength could be among the top three or two hundred outer peak disciples. Long Feng ignored the respectful gazes surrounding him and entered the Missions hall. He headed straight to the missions shelves and began to search through them for a suitable mission.
After a few minutes of searching, his eyes lit up as he took out a simple token.
"Kill the three heads of the infamous iron blood gang. Mission difficulty, one and half stars. Has a high chance of rising to two stars." This mission seemed suitable for him, save for the apparently high chance of it becoming a two star mission. That would make things extremely dangerous, as a two star mission meant a deity was involved in one way or the other. But the rewards were extremely tempting. It was hard for him to refuse the mission.
"Fifty low grade essence stones and a hundred heaven runes… that's easily among the highest ranked one and half star missions available." He gasped and carefully weighed the pros and cons. Essence stones were crucial for cultivation from the Imperial realm all the way to the Dao realm and beyond. No one would ever complaint of having too much of them. As for the heaven runes, there was no need to elaborate on their importance.
If Long Feng had enough heaven runes, he could enter the ancient sword legacy remnant and comprehend more of the sword laws and purchase resources that would enable him to reach the Imperial realm easily. After deliberating for a few seconds, he decided to take the mission. He strolled over to the counter and placed the jade before the same warden he had met the previous times. The warden didn't bother to lift his head as he grabbed the token and went through it's content, then he looked up in surprise.
"You want to take this mission?" He questioned lightly. Long Feng nodded.
"The three heads of the iron blood gang are two top tier rank eight Imperials and one peak Imperial realm master. Only a few peak Imperials in the outer peak can handle them. That's not including the rest of the iron blood gang, comprising dozens of Imperials of different levels. That alone pushes the mission to be harder than normal one and half star missions. There's also the rumor that the gang leader has entered seclusion recently, perhaps to breakthrough the Imperial realm and enter the deity realm.
Are you sure about your choice?" The warden explained with a light tone. He obviously expected Long Feng to cower after listening to his words and changing his mission. Unfortunately for him, that didn't happen. Long Feng did listen to his explanation and a crease formed on his forehead, but it quickly vanished and he nodded rather calmly again.
"I understand. Thank you for enlightening me, Senior." The warden nodded and his expression lightened.
"Good. This mission might only be completed if some of the top hundred outer peak disciples group together or any of the top ten decides to clear it." He casually pushed the jade back at Long Feng. In his mind, he thought that Long Feng's words meant he had understood and was going to change the mission to something more suitable for his level.
"But senior, I still wish to try it out. If I fail to complete it, it won't be too late to return and change another mission." Long Feng added, causing the warden's expression to freeze temporarily.
"You…!" He began with a frown, then huffed. Was this kid sane? What did he mean by it won't be too late to return if he failed? Was this mission a joke? Like hell the iron blood gang would let him return alive.
"Do whatever you want. You must present the heads of the three to complete the mission. If you can bring more heads if the iron blood gang members, your reward will increase based on their cultivation." He couldn't care less about it anymore. He simply waved his hand and lowered his head again. Long Feng thanked the warden who didn't respond, then turned to leave the hall, preparing to embark on this mission. The warden sensed his departure and huffed again.
"A foolish brat seeking death. What does a peak spirit realm kid think he can_" he suddenly froze when he said this. He never even realized that Long Feng's cultivation was so minuscule. Reading on Amazon or a pirate site? This novel is from Royal Road. Support the author by reading it there. But right now, the only person with a similar cultivation was the ridiculous Long Feng, who had risen to fame in one leap.
"Could he be that Long Feng? That's the only possibility. Even then, does he think his strength is enough to face the entire iron blood gang?" The warden's frown deepened slightly as he stared at Long Feng's receding back. Then he sighed and sent a quick voice transmission to Long Feng.
"Brat, two other disciples already left to complete this mission. It isn't a group mission, but considering it's difficulty, we made it such that more than one disciple can decide to attempt it. Just so you know, both disciples are ranked among the top hundred, and they left three days and two days ago respectively." Long Feng received the voice transmission and paused, realizing who it came from. He turned around and gave a brief bow to the warden before leaving the hall. The warden then sighed.
"He's certainly a rising star as well. Too bad he decided to kill Bai Lixi out of everyone else. Bai Zijun is already crazy about his brother as it is. This will certainly cause a storm soon. It'll be good if he doesn't return for a while."
Long Feng slowly digested all the information he had learnt from both the warden and the details of the mission engraved into he jade. The actual head of the iron blood gang was a bloodthirsty person. His actual name had long been forgotten and he was known as Crimson Chen. The crimson stood for the countless lives he had shed. He created the iron blood gang when he reached rank eight Imperial several years ago and led them to pillage several weak forces.
After a few years, the iron blood gang and become much stronger. Crimson Chen became a powerful peak Imperial and he had even once escaped from a deity alive, albeit with severe injuries. This caused Long Feng to frown slightly. This alone proved that Crimson Chen wasn't to be underestimated. Just the puppet was able to complete overpower Long Feng, not to mention a real human deity. Crimson Chen also had two brothers, both top tier among rank eight Imperials.
Perhaps their strength might even slightly surpass that of Bai Lixi. They were the three heads of the iron blood gang. Beneath them were several other Imperials of different levels. Many forces that didn't have a deity to guard them were robbed and even destroyed by the iron blood gang over the years. That alone wasn't nearly enough to catch the attention of the Supreme Heaven Sect though. It was merely enough to be placed as a one and half star mission for outer peak disciples to complete.
Perhaps, inner peak disciples would deem it beneath them to glance at this mission. Long Feng clenched the jade as this thought crossed his mind.
"I need to return with as many heads as I can. Also, there are two other disciples who took the mission according to the warden. It is very likely that I'll run into maybe one of them and a fight could occur. Since they have the confidence to attempt this mission on their own, then they must be extremely confident in their strengths. I'll have to be cautious." He returned to his pavilion and prepared several days worth of supplies, some extra clothes, enough healing pills and detoxifying pills for emergencies.
Once he finished preparing everything, he began to race down the mountain. After hearing that he wasn't the only one who wanted to complete this mission and that the other two were nearly three days ahead of him, he realized that there was no time to waste. Unleashing his full speed, he rushed down the mountain. Over two hours later, he finally reached the bottom of the mountain and sped forward, leaving the outer peak for the first time since he arrived.
After moving a certain distance, he looked behind and spotted the three huge mountains that seemed to pierce into the clouds, carrying a profound might and grandeur that showcased the power and pride of a quasi one star force. The mist that covered all three mountains was extremely dense and he couldn't see through them at all. After his time in the sect, he had come to learn that this mist wasn't simple at all.
It was actually the dormant form of the Supreme Heaven Sect's sect guarding formation, passed down over thousands of years and continuously strengthened by generations of supreme powerhouses. It wasn't overdoing it to call it utterly unshakable unless the greatest powers of the entire Mainland made a move on the supreme heaven sect. And the only powers capable of breaking through such terrifying defense was no other than the four Royal Clans, the undisputed overlords of the Mainland.
Long Feng couldn't imagine any reason that would cause any of the royal clans to attack a quasi one star force. He admired the formation silently. This was the lifetime of several monstrous rulers of the mainland, their combined blood and sweat over several generations. He was wholly incapable of comprehending anything from it. A few minutes later, he sped off, heading towards the nearest city.
Of course, nearest here was a vague word, as it would take Long Feng flying at full speed for about five days before he would arrive, according to the map contained within the mission jade. His destination was the area where members of the iron blood gang were last spotted. As he left, Long Feng utterly didn't notice two figures staring at him from high in the sky. One of them was the famous Head Warden, and he was standing behind a middle aged man with an extremely dignified expression.
His entire being exuded a frightening aura of majesty that couldn't be faulted. Even the head warden was forced to lower his head and back slightly behind the man. They both watched Long Feng vanishing into the distance, then the Head Warden glanced at the man cautiously.
"Lord Ao, do I send someone to watch over him?" He voiced in a respectful tone. This middle aged man with an insufferably majestic bearing was none other than Ao Zhentian! If Long Feng saw him now, he would hardly recognize him. Every inch of his body emanated an indescribable pressure and dignity. The easy going Ao Zhentian was nowhere to be found in him.
"There's no need. His advancement has exceeded my expectations. It would be best if he's left to survive and find his opportunities on his own to avoid disrupting his potential." Ao Zhentian's voice boomed beside the head warden's ears, shaking his ear drums.
"Yes, Lord Ao." The head warden lowered his head even further in acknowledgement. Then a slight hesitation appeared on his face.
"Lord Ao, regarding Bai Zijun…"
"His fury is insignificant. His brother's death is no one's fault." Ao Zhentian replied indifferently. The head warden quickly nodded his head.
"Understood. This one will make sure Bai Zijun never does anything foolish."
"Do not interfere. Once Long Feng returns, they will settle their differences on their own. You only need to ensure that he stays alive no matter what." Ao Zhentian's voice echoed. The might in his voice alone was causing the head warden to turn pale.
"This one understands. I will not interfere at all. Long Feng will never be hurt as long as I am in the sect." He meekly responded, then continued in a hesitant tone again.
"About his sword intent…" Ao Zhentian instantly interrupted him and a wave of invisible aura caused the head warden to shiver like a leaf in a storm.
"You will not mention that to anyone in the sect. The ancient sword legacy remnant is of utmost importance. No one has ever comprehended the true sword law in the past thousands of years. His sword intent might just be a ruse." The head warden shook and forced down the blood tumbling in his chest, the terror in his heart nearly spilling out.
"Y-yes, Lord Ao. This one misspoke." Ao Zhentian didn't respond. He merely vanished completely, leaving not even the slightest hint to reveal his presence. The head warden remained frozen for a few minutes before he breathed a heavy sigh.
"Heavens. The true Lord Ao has really returned. The atmosphere of the core peak seemed to have changed already. I wonder why he decided to return to the sect after so long. Also, why is he so interested in this kid?" Recalling how Ao Zhentian's voice alone had caused him to nearly cough up blood, he didn't dare to speculate too much. Whatever Lord Ao's thoughts were, it had nothing to do with him whatsoever.
Giving one last glance in Long Feng's direction, the Head Warden turned around and vanished as well, causing ripples in the air and slight aura of the Dao realm to disperse.
