The dragon roar suddenly intensified just as the youth was about to touch the dagger. The eyes of the dragon seemed to move and stare at the youth with a gleam in them. His soul instantly shivered and an endless feeling of terror and despair devoured his mind. His body abruptly exploded, splattering gore in all directions. Long Feng's pupils immediately shrank briefly before they returned to normal.
Even though the disciples were prepared for something like this to happen, they were still startled by the mere brutality of it. Most especially, no one knew exactly how the youth died. There was no visible attack; he simply exploded to pieces. He wasn't even able to react. He was still stuck in his little fantasy of his success until he died, and he never touched the dagger that caused it. Many disciples instantly regained their senses and sighed, feeling like cold water had been poured over their heads.
A few of them who also didn't believe the warning couldn't help but thank their stars. If they hadn't been patient and cautious, they would've been the ones splattering on the ground. Long Feng also averted his gaze and smiled faintly.
"Those three definitely didn't warn me about this. Whatever their reason was, I have more reason to be cautious of them." The three beside soon regained their senses and gasped lightly. One of them sneaked a glance at Long Feng and spoke.
"There are rumors about this exact situation, and warnings against approaching the treasures until a certain point. We didn't really take it seriously, but to think it's true..." Long Feng simply smiled and didn't comment on that. The youth continued.
"More things would be spat out of the dragon fountain for a while. They'll all float around the fountain, and no one can approach them until the dragon fountain returns to sleep; meaning the roar stops and the jaws closes again." This was something they all knew, evidently. Long Feng listened without reacting while inwardly contemplating on what to believe. Whether this was true or not, all he needed to do was wait anyway and he would naturally know what to do.
Roughly ten minutes later, another beam of light flew out of the dragon's mouth and shot into the sky. Many gazes followed it as it descended and floated beside the dagger while the light around it faded, revealing what it was.
"Is that a Dao skill?" Someone gasped.
"It's unknown. It is either a Dao skills or a cultivation manual, but whichever one it happens to be, it will definitely be at the mortal grade, maybe even a peak mortal grade!" The object this time around was a rough looking jade, the type which was often used to hold techniques or manuals. Since no one could approach, it was impossible to tell what exactly it was, or it's grade. Long Feng rolled his eyes. Both objects were definitely treasures, but he was destined to be unable to use them.
If the next few things didn't turn out to be things he could use, then he really would flip out with frustration. Everyone waited patiently or rather, impatiently as their gazes moved between the shocking dagger and the mysterious jade. Energies were already being circulated as everyone prepared to go through a bitter fight to get what they had set their sights on. The fact that everyone's strength were more or less similar ensured that the fight would definitely be dreadful.
Another ten minutes passed and a third beam of light shot out of the dragon's mouth. Just as the other two did, it flew into the sky before descending slowly and floating beside them with it's light fading away to reveal what it was. This tale has been unlawfully obtained from Royal Road. If you discover it on Amazon, kindly report it. Everyone was taken aback after seeing what this was, then their faces began to twitch.
"A f*cking stone?" A disciple cursed. Many others said similar words with curses. The object was a completely ordinary stone. There was nothing remotely strange about it. Hell, even the stones on the ground looked more interesting than it did. Was this a freaking joke?
"Ah. The information also explicitly stated that what may come out of the dragon's mouth might not be a treasure. It could be a completely useless trash. Apparently, that stone counts as one." A youth sighed loudly.
"I hope something else comes out. The number of things that appear varies. It could be just one, two, three, sometimes even more than that. There are quite many of us here... just the dagger and the mysterious jade won't be enough." Someone else added. Everyone waited with bated breath, listening closely to see if the roaring sound would stop. If it stopped, that meant nothing would appear again and the dragon's mouth would close. Luckily, that didn't happen after a few minutes.
About ten more minutes passed and a dazzling beam of light illuminated the sky as it appeared. All the disciples immediately became anxious as they waited impatiently to see what this was. If it turned out to be something useless, then the creator of this mystic realm would certainly receive a wave of curses in his grave. The beam of light slowly floated down and it's light faded. What appeared caused the breathing of every disciple present to become hurried.
The object, or more specifically the objects were three perfectly round bean sized pills. They were pale blue in color and they appeared to ripple like the surface of a sea. The natural energy around seemed to have turned crazy the instant the pills appeared, boiling over and rushing into the pills like a broken dam. A single name appeared in everyone minds as they stared at this pill. Even Long Feng who knew next to nothing about pills had an idea as to what these three pills were.
He had heard enough about them and what they look like along the way. True essence pills! A true essence pill was a mid mortal grade pill. It was a unique pill formed by a master alchemist at least. They contained dense essence energy that was also extremely gentle, making it unbelievably easy to refine. If a peak Imperial took it, they would have a sixty percent chance of becoming a deity. The sect wasn't lacking in true essence pills. In fact, they were in abundance. But... they were extremely expensive.
One would need five thousand heaven runes or eight thousand low grade essence stones to purchase one. For an outer peak disciple, that was a ridiculous amount. One would need to complete several two star missions repeatedly to gather such amount, and only deities could survive a two star mission, so these disciples here had no way to ever purchase the pills. But a mystic realm was a land of lucky encounters.
Obtaining a true essence pill in the serene heaven mystic realm wasn't impossible; it had occurred a few times before. All the disciples here were at the peak of the Imperial realm, excluding Long Feng. Given enough time, they would all become deities and maybe even Dao realm masters considering their talents. But that would take up to a year from now.
Between eating a true essence pill and becoming a deity in a few days and slowly cultivating and becoming a deity in about half a year to a year, it was clear which was a better choice. Many eyes were already red, but they turned crimson from greed at the sight of these three pills. Some disciples had to bite their tongues to re-enforce their minds and stop themselves from rushing straight towards the pills. To these disciples, these three weren't just pills.
They were their tickets to greatness, to becoming deities and inner peak disciples. The three youths beside Long Feng were all red eyed as they waited with ragged breathing. They had told Long Feng that they would team up to fight for treasures and they mentioned true essence pills, but they didn't really expect the pills to appear. At least, the information they received stated that the true essence pills were extremely hard to come by even in the serene heaven mystic realm.
Perhaps only somewhere like the supreme heaven mystic realm would have them lying around on the floor. Now that they were actually staring at the three perfect pills, their minds were nearly blank. All thoughts of their corporation had vanished to smoke. As Long Feng had predicted, when faced with personal gains, this team would crumble before they faced anyone. Panting sounds filled the air as everyone waited impatiently for the roar to end.
Even the mortal grade dagger and the mysterious jade which could contain a manual or a Dao skill were not as tempting to these disciples as the true essence pills. Long Feng's expression wasn't filled with greed as the others, but he had a piercing glint in his eyes. He wasn't a peak Imperial, so he didn't lose his mind like the other disciples when he saw these pills, that didn't mean he wouldn't want them. In fact, he wanted one for himself as well.
As for what he would do with it, that was something for the future. Just as some disciples were about to lose their minds from the wait, the dragon's jaws suddenly closed and the roar stopped abruptly. The change was so sudden that no one reacted for a split second, and then the area shook as several powerful auras surged to the skies. Each aura was like a pillar supporting the sky, and the appearance of nearly twenty such auras caused a frightening cloud of dust and wind to form a hurricane.
All the disciples unleashed their greatest speed as they all sped towards the three floating pills like their lives depended on it. Long Feng blinked a few times and simply stood still, watching the chaos about to erupt. Two disciples were the fastest. They both reached the pills at the same time and each grabbed one, then they both turned to flee in separate directions. Of course, the others wouldn't let that happen.
Dazzling attacks erupted and lit up the world as all the other unleashed powerful attacks at the two disciples. The two youths were instantly flustered. One attack was easy to block, two was possible, three would be hard but still not impossible. Now though, over ten powerful attacks crashed into them. The two youths were buried under the attacks even as they tried to defend their bodies. Savage energy ripples spread out. The combined attacks was enough to force back a weak deity!
The two youths were blasted out of the area by the attacks, both of their lives handing by a thread. They were covered in blood as they crashed to the ground and formed two human shaped craters where they fell. Whether they were still alive or not was a mystery. The two pills they took had flown out of their grasp, and the shockwaves dispersed the three pills in three different directions. Someone else grabbed a pill. Instead of trying to run, he did something else.
He immediately took out as much defensive tools and he could and protected himself before trying to escape. Unfortunately, he had underestimated the group of insane disciples. A barrage of attacks broke through all his defenses and slammed into him. His body fell to the ground like a kite with it's string broken. Although he was in a bad shape, it wasn't as bad as the first two due to his quick reaction speed and the defensive tools he used.
Whoever got lucky and grabbed a pill was immediately buried under several attacks, leaving them inches away from death. Within a few minutes, four youths faced the same fate. The savage attacks caused the disciples to slowly begin to regain their senses. The three pills because akin to a ball of lava. Whoever touched any one would bring trouble upon themselves. The three pills floated calmly while the dozen disciples stared at them greedily, then at each other with wariness in their eyes.
For the next minute, no one moved towards the pills. As stated earlier, the difference in strength between them were minuscule at best. For one person to grab a pill and escape from the others was nearly impossible.
