"This mission has already become a two star mission from the minute crimson Chen became a deity. Even if we fail, the sect wouldn't punish us anymore. But if I clear the mission… then the rewards could double to match those of two star missions." Long Feng made a mental calculation in his mind and decided that it was worth the risk he was about to take.
"I mean, this should be perfectly okay. I wouldn't be the first peak spirit realm warrior to chase after am injured deity to kill them right? I'm sure it's a normal thing." He repeated as he rose into the air and sped off in the same direction as crimson Chen had gone. With crimson Chen's intelligence, he naturally wouldn't move in a straight line. He had probably made many turns and detours and maybe even hidden somewhere. Catching him should be impossible by now. But Long Feng had his own means.
A silver glow appeared in his pupils and his vision instantly reached an unprecedented level. He could see energy itself flowing and there was a clear trail of crimson colored aura that vanished into the distance. Long Feng had noticed this ability of the Immortal's Sight after he used it earlier. He could barely see the paths of energy if he pushed his eyes to the limit. This wasn't very useful normally, not for things like this, it was helpful. It's main use would come in handy when unraveling a formation though.
Long Feng followed crimson Chen's trail for nearly an hour, taking sudden turns, changing directions and even going in circles before the trail finally led into a swamp. There was nothing here at a glance, but Long Feng calmly raised his palm and unleashed a plan strike at the swamp below. The swamp exploded as a figure covered in red aura charged out with a frightening wave of murderous aura.
"Who! Who dares!" The person roared in an enraged voice.
"Um… me?" Long Feng replied with a blink of his eye and stared at the crimson pupils that glared at him.
"You?" Crimson Chen narrowed his eyes. He had expected to see maybe some peak Imperial reinforcement who came to kill him while he was weak, but it was unexpectedly a peak spirit realm warrior? He had noticed Long Feng's presence back in the battlefield but his weak aura hadn't even been able to enter his eyes. To think this weakling would find his hiding spot?
"That's right. Me." Long Feng replied calmly. Crimson Chen's eyes flared with killing intent.
"Then you can die now!" He thrust a casual palm strike with just ten percent of his power. That should be more than enough to kill this trash. His current state wouldn't allow him to use more than thirty percent of his strength, but that alone could defeat most Imperials. Except for Long Feng. Long Feng vanished, dodging the palm and reappeared above crimson Chen. The Imperial sword was already in his grasp and a powerful earth firmament skill was charging up.
Crimson Chen's pupils shrank as he sensed Long Feng's presence him, surrounded by a terrifying sword intent that pierced into his soul.
"S-sword intent?! Impossible!" He exclaimed as he moved to dodge the attack, but to his shock, he was unable to move. It was like some invisible shackles had bound him tightly and he would need a few seconds to break free. Unfortunately, he didn't have a few seconds. Did you know this text is from a different site? Read the official version to support the creator. He pushed his body to it's limit and unleashed thirty percent of his strength in a bid to break the shackles and block the attack.
He managed to loosen the shackles just as the sword slashed down at his head. He moved his head out of the way, revealing his chest instead. The sword sliced his chest, creating a deep gash that extended from his heart position to his abdomen. Blood immediately poured out like rain as crimson Chen retreated hastily. His expression was now extremely solemn with a hint of shock as he stared at the calm Long Feng. No matter how he looked, this kid was just a rank nine spirit realm warrior. How was this possible?
What just happened! How could a spirit realm warrior comprehend a minor intent, something even crimson Chen had been unable to achieve? Was the heaven still fair?
"Who are you?" Crimson chen asked with a frigid expression. Long Feng shook his sword lightly.
"The person that will kill you." He rushed forward again and unleashed a rain of sword lights with his sword, forcing crimson Chen to dodge haggardly. Even then, he was left with many more cuts on his body. His injuries were too severe. If he used more strength, he would probably kill himself before Long Feng did. As much as he hated to think about it, he realized that he would have to escape from this kid. The thought left a bitter aftertaste in his mouth.
Gritting his teeth, he released an explosion of energy that pushed Long Feng away at the cost of more injuries, then he turned into a streak of red light and tried to escape. Long Feng's eyes flashed as his lips curved into a smile.
"I've been waiting for you to run!" He raised his sword and poured his energy and intent into it, causing the Imperial armament to shake excitedly. The sword laws flashed through his mind, and long Feng chose a single concept to remember right now.
"Sovereign of Myriad Weapons, overlooking heaven and earth… Heaven Firmament!" He merged the overbearing law of the sword as well as his intent Into this move. Compared to the earth firmament, it was at least thrice stronger. His veins bulged but they didn't tear apart like when he used the skill before. That was partly due to his higher cultivation but mostly due to his now much stronger body compared to before. His body was literally already an Imperial realm body. Only his cultivation was lagging behind.
The sword was silent, making no sound at all. Crimson Chen suddenly felt a chill running down his spine. His movement froze entirely and he couldn't break the invisible shackles this time no matter how hard he tried. He couldn't even shake them. Right as his eyes widened and his pupils shrank, the sword pierced through his heart from his back as appeared through his front, completely impaling his heart. Forget a deity.
Even a Dao realm master would die if their heart was pierced through, after all, it was one of the most vital parts of the human body. Crimson Chen's gaze began to blur, and even until he died, he didn't believe that he would die this way, in the hands of a rank nine spirit realm kid. His eyes slowly lost their focus and his body began to fall towards the swamp beneath them.
Long Feng quickly swung the sword and cleaved the head off with a slash and caught it, them he also pulled off the void ring in his finger and let the rest of the body fall into the swamp. After that, he swallowed back the blood in his mouth, shocked at the strength of a deity. The only counterattack crimson Chen made was to release his aura as an explosion, but that alone caused Long Feng's innards to shift slightly.
If crimson Chen had actually landed a hit, or if he wasn't focused on trying to escape, then Long Feng would likely suffer severe injuries to kill him. The current situation was the best way it could have possibly ended. He glanced at the head in his hand and he couldn't help but sigh softly.
"Even a deity can die. Today, I've killed my first deity, and it most certainly won't be the last." He grinned. Although it couldn't be considered a fair fight, that didn't matter. What mattered was that he killed a deity. The method wasn't important at all. He carefully put the head beside the other two heads in his void ring then he left and found a different place to heal and reorganize his thoughts.
"I've completed the mission. Considering that it's now a two star mission, my rewards should increase significantly." He soon frowned.
"But I can't return to the sect. I am still not strong enough to face Bai Zijun if he comes looking for me. My next action is to break through to the Imperial realm and see just how strong I become then." Thinking about that, he searched through crimson Chen's void ring. There were many things inside the ring, including over a hundred low grade essence stones, tens of thousands of Imperial crystals, different martial skills and Dao skills, various pills and a cultivation manual named Resentful Blood Technique.
Hidden in the depth of the void ring, Long Feng found a small box carefully concealed. He curiously brought it out and and opened it slowly, revealing a single peach shaped fruit. It was much smaller than peach and was just half the size of a fist, and it emitted a soul stirring aroma that caused Long Feng's mouth to water. The surrounding natural energy began to rush towards the fruit the moment it was revealed. Long Feng only needed a glance to know that this was an extraordinary item.
Crimson Chen must've been keeping it for when he would breakthrough to the deity realm. Unfortunately, he broke through earlier than expected and he couldn't have absorbed it in the situation he found himself. Now, it belonged to Long Feng, who didn't even know what he was holding.
"This is definitely a good spirit fruit or something. If crimson Chen was keeping it for the deity realm, then it must be very potent." A thought appeared in Long Feng's mind and he couldn't suppress it.
"Can I… use it to breakthrough to the Imperial realm?" He still lacked some accumulations to finally reach the Imperial realm. But if he could use such a good spirit fruit, then he might hasten his breakthrough or kill himself from consuming something he couldn't withstand. After a bit of hesitation, Long Feng narrowed his gaze. An even crazier idea took root in his mind.
"I still have the mud dragon root pill. If I can consume it with this fruit, what will happen?" Long Feng could be perfectly described using the saying, Curiosity killed the cat. In his case, it was certainly recklessness that killed the cat instead.
"Hell I'm doing it." He grinned and out the fruit back into his void ring, then he began to search for a safe hiding spot. After a while, he sat inside a small, well concealed cave and took out both the mud dragon root pill and the strange fruit. Staring at the two treasures, he swallowed hard and chided himself.
"I keep saying this, but someday, I really might get myself killed while cultivating." He sighed. There was no hesitation in his heart as he took a bite of the fruit. An indescribable sweetness assaulted his taste buds and he felt like he was in heaven. He ate the whole fruit and it melted into a thick liquid that flowed down his throat. He was almost pained to watch the sweetness fade away.
Immediately after, he threw the mud dragon root pill into his mouth and swallowed it as well, then prepared to go through hell to refine them.
