The mud dragon root pill turned into a burst of wild energy that rampaged through Long Feng's body. It was like a wild horse or a hammer constantly smashing against Long Feng's bones. The mud dragon root pill contained the essence of a mud dragon. They were famous for their great strength and tough bodies that would be hard for even deities to harm.
Every vein, muscle, bones and organs were extremely tough, far beyond even other wild beasts, and that was naturally due to the thin strand of flood dragon blood within it's body. The root pill wouldn't grant the same properties as the mud dragon, but it would temper the bones, the marrow, the blood and everything else till they were above normal humans. For a body tempering cultivator at the beginning stages like Long Feng, this was something that could set a solid foundation for the future.
Long Feng's skin turned slightly red, not due to the pain he was going through. Instead, his blood had boiled so much while refining the essence of the pill that it looked like he would soon seep blood from his pores. His bones and organs were subtly changed, becoming multiple times tougher than they used to be. The pain itself wasn't the worst he had been forced to endure. Although the pill's essence seeping into his bones was a new type of pain, it was still within the limits of his endurance.
He instead focused his attention on the fruit which he has consumed. He didn't know what effects this fruit had. All that he could tell was that it had to be useful for cultivation, as it was fully saturated with energy. But even until the mud dragon root pill was almost fully refined and absorbed nearly an hour later, he didn't sense anything to signify the strange fruit was taking effect. Long Feng's physical strength rose drastically after he completely refined the pill.
When he threw a casual punch, the amount of force that surged out caused the cave to shake.
"The mud dragon root pill definitely lives up to it's name. My fist contained about two hundred tons of force just now. That's enough to go toe to toe with a normal peak Imperial who doesn't cultivate a manual." He exclaimed after testing his body strength a few more times. But after a few seconds, his excitement faded away and he fell into deep thought.
"My cultivation hasn't increased at all. What the hell was that fruit? It was causing such a stir in the surrounding natural energy and I thought it should be something good. Don't tell me crimson Chen went through all these trouble to hide an ordinary fruit in his void ring?" That wasn't possible. Crimson Chen wouldn't go as far as placing it in a special box and hiding it at the corner of his void ring unless it had a specific use which he wanted.
And clearly, Long Feng had never heard about this fruit, not to mention knowing what it was used for.
"Well I'll be damned. It does have an amazing taste, but if that's all there is to it, then I am very disappointed. I'll need to find another way to quickly breakthrough before returning to the sect. I'll need to find a method to learn as much as I can about the unique resources and treasures of the mainland." He sighed softly. His biggest wish now was to quickly become an Imperial. If he cultivated normally, then he would need nearly a month and possibly even longer.
The Inner disciple test was fast approaching, not to mention the threat of Bai Zijun hanging above his head. Due to both reasons, he couldn't afford to take too much time. Although becoming an Imperial wouldn't grant him deity level combat power, it would allow him to face top tier peak Imperials like Zhou Kui. That meant his strength would enter the top hundred on the mortal ranking.
Even that wouldn't be enough to achieve his goals and deter Bai Zijun, but he would be that much stronger than before, and even the slightest increase in strength mattered.
"Time to go. Returning to the sect now is out of the question so I guess I'll explore these parts of the region until I make my breakthrough." He rubbed his eyes helplessly and rose to his feet. The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident. All of a sudden, a wave of fatigue engulfed him, causing his feet to wobble unsteadily. Even his gaze because blurry and he felt as though his bones were replaced with jelly.
The change was so sudden that it caught Long Feng off guard and left him dazed for the next few seconds.
"What is going on..." He muttered as the fatigue worsened. A strange heat was spreading through his body, making him feel indescribably comfortable. His mind was getting sluggish and his eyelids were slowly becoming heavy.
"Could this also be caused by the root pill?" His body lost all strength and he slumped to the ground, unable to conjure even the slightest strength to move a muscle. His body seemed to have become a small mountain. He lost all feeling and moving became an impossibly hard feat. As his mind drifted into darkness, the strange fruit which he had consumed surfaced in his mind.
"Ohh. So it's that..." this was the final thought in his mind before he fully lost consciousness. His heartbeat drastically slowed down, beating only once in nearly a full minute, and each beat was extremely faint and weak to the extent that no one would believe he still had life left in him. Long Feng was indistinguishable from a corpse at this moment. Even his breathing had slowed to once a minute and it was as faint as his heartbeat.
A gentle energy was slowly being released from his stomach, spreading to every part of his body excluding his Dantian. What was shocking though was what occurred after that. Long Feng's energy began to circulate through his body at over ten times faster the normal speed, growing stronger with each circulation. After several circulation, the energy would flow into his Dantian and integrate into the spirit cyclone, causing it's revolving speed to gradually become faster.
This strange cultivation continued silently while Long Feng himself remained as still as a rock.
In the outer peak of the Supreme Heaven Sect, everything was going as usual. The disciples went about their cultivations as always. Unfortunately, today was destined to not be peaceful. A cold faced youth with an extremely powerful aura rapidly rushed up the peak, reaching the mid parts of the mountain within a short time. His aura was extremely unstable, like a ticking time bomb waiting to explode. A suppressed rage was hidden beneath his aura, resembling a volcano right before it erupted.
Wherever he passed, all disciples felt like a mountain was placed on their chests. The feeling was extremely scary and some weak disciples would have suffocated if the aura had lasted for more than a few seconds before fading. Some specific individuals who sensed this aura were filled with expectations. Yang Qian, one of the top ten outer peak disciple sat on a stone outside his grand pavilion and followed the youth's figure with his calm gaze. After the youth vanished from his line of sight, Yang Qian sighed.
"Bai Zijun has returned. I hope things don't get out of hand." He sighed with a slight frown. Zhou Zheng, another top ten outer peak disciple sensed the powerful aura that was released uncontrollably and he curled his lips in a smile.
"That crazy Bai Zijun is back. For him to have returned so soon, he must've rushed over without resting. Tsk tsk tsk, someone would need to die to calm his anger." Wang Chen and Fang Feichen, the other two of the top ten disciples who weren't either outside the sect or in seclusion were similarly expectant after sensing Bai Zijun's aura. Bai Zijun was extremely famous in the outer peak for several reasons, one of them being that he was third among the top ten outer peak disciples.
In comparison, Yang Qian was ranked eighth and Zhou Zheng was ranked ninth. They were all early stage deities, but at that level, even a slight advantage could mean a substantial difference in strength. Both of them would admit to be weaker than the top five, and Bai Zijun was third. Zhou Zheng and Feng Feichen were ranked higher; fifth and sixth respectively. Bai Zijun was already renowned for his unique cultivation manual. He cultivated a low earth grade manual, and his attainments in it weren't low.
In truth, his strength was on par with the second ranked disciple. It was also well known that Bai Zijun loved his younger brother more than anything. Their parents had died long ago, leaving both of them to survive on their own. Bai Zijun exhibited great talent when they joined the sect and he soon surpassed Bai Lixi by far, but he never ceased to support him in every situation. It was with his help that Bai Lixi could get a high grade manual like the Radiant Flame Mantra.
Although he knew that Bai Lixi was being a scourge in the outer peak, he didn't interfere and indulged his actions. At the same time, no one in the outer peak dared to offend Bai Lixi for fear of his brother. When Bai Zijun had received the news of Bai Lixi's death a few days ago, he couldn't believe it. He abandoned the mission he was completing and rushed back to the sect at the fastest speed he could muster. The only thing that filled his mind along the way was immense sadness, rage and killing intent.
Even before he arrived, he had already imagined several things he would do to the killer to assuage his anger. Now, he directly rushed towards the peak of the mountain, towards the majestic palace that was the core of the outer peak. He charged into the palace without slowing down and only paused when he came face to face with the Head Warden. Breathing heavily, Bai Zijun stared at the head warden with veins in his eyes.
"Is it true?" He asked in a hoarse voice. The head warden stared at him calmly and slowly nodded his head. Bai Zijun's face turned pale as he heard that. He lowered his head and stared at the floor for a few seconds in silence.
"Where is he?" He asked in a quivering voice. The head warden pointed to the side of the hall. Bai Zijun turned his head and noticed that crystal coffin that was placed at that side. He wasn't in the right state of mind right now so he didn't even notice the coffin when he came in. He slowly walked towards the coffin and peered through the transparent cover. There, the separate head and body of a person was laid. That person could only be Bai Lixi.
Bai Zijun stared at the corpse for a long time before he turned around sharply and stared at the head warden with bloodshot eyes.
"Who did this? Which bastard did this?" It was all he could manage right now to keep his killing intent suppressed. There was not a hint of respect in his eyes as he stared at the head warden. The head warden wasn't fazed at all. In fact, his expression hadn't changed since Bai Zijun rushed into the hall.
"You need to calm down right now. Little Lixi was in the wrong and his death was fair. Hundreds of disciples and some wardens witnessed it. Nothing went against the rules. What do you think you can do?" He questioned calmly. Bai Zijun's face scrunched up with rage and he suddenly laughed coldly.
"What can I do? I will make him pay with his life. That's what I can do. Tell me who the hell did it!" As for the rules, to hell with them. So what if Bai Lixi was in the wrong? So what if killing him was justified? Bai Zijun didn't give a damn about that. The only thing he knew was that someone dared to kill his brother. No rules could stop him from exacting vengeance.
"Pay with his life? I'll advise you to get rid of that thought. Take your brother, bury him and focus on your life." The head warden was still expressionless as he said this. Bai Zijun stared at the head warden with extreme rage. He gritted his teeth so hard that some of them began to crack.
"You're protecting him? You want to stop me from avenging Lixi?" He asked through gritted teeth. The head warden slowly shook his head.
"Wrong. I'm protecting you. Lord Ao Zhentian stands behind the person. No matter how angry you are, you can only swallow it down." He replied. Bai Zijun's expression froze. His rage, his grief and his killing intent all seemed to freeze in his body. There was no wind in the hall, but he suddenly felt cold, like he was standing naked under the snow. The cold wind completely extinguished his rage and killing intent and he stood still, staring at the head warden with a blank expression.
