Long Feng decided to take the Rune Archon Nexus technique. After that, he continued searching through the other jades, trying to find one that caught his eye before his time ended. What he was actually hoping to find was either a powerful demon energy technique or a light based technique. He didn't want anything else, no matter how amazing it was. Currently, he was unable to utilize the two Daos to their full power, because he lacked any technique suitable enough.
The only thing he could do was use them to support his sword energy, which was a waste of their actual powers. It must be known that demon and light Daos were ranked above the sword Dao. Although the ranking was relative and the power of the Dao was based on the user's understanding, it still spoke miles about the power of the two Daos. The three waves demon annihilation used to be good enough, but now it was simply too weak.
Compared to the earth shaking mortal and earth grade techniques, a mere spirit grade skill was nothing. Unfortunately, the Supreme Heaven Sect had very few demonic cultivators, which meant they lacked the techniques as well. As for the light Dao, it was extremely rare, such that the number of people who had ever comprehended it in the past ten thousand years could be counted on one hand. Naturally, finding a peak mortal grade technique for both Daos would be difficult, and he couldn't find any.
After the three hours time limit was over, Long Feng had no choice but to give up and leave, taking only the Rune Archon Nexus technique along. He very much wanted to take one of the powerful cultivation manuals for when he was going to return to the Long clan, but he knew that such techniques were the core of any faction and couldn't be shared outside. If he was caught, which would most likely happen, he could lose his cultivation as punishment, maybe even death.
That was how strictly the forces guarded their heritage. Long Feng walked out of the Myriad Techniques Hall and was speechless to find the old man still snoring away. It looked like even if the sect was falling apart, he still would be too lazy to open his eyes. Long Feng quietly approached him and handed over the jade containing the information on the Rune Archon Nexus technique.
A few seconds later, the old man's eyelashes suddenly fluttered before his eyes parted open slightly and he focused his gaze on Long Feng. Long Feng's heart instantly shook. The old man gave off absolutely no aura, and even emanated an air of lethargy, but his eyes were extremely bright and deep, resembling the night sky. A person could lose themselves in those eyes if they stared for too long.
"Brat, didn't you read the details? Are you a retard?" The old man suddenly snapped, causing Long Feng to blink rapidly in confusion.
"This technique is a failed product, in other words, it's useless. Are you trying to cripple your cultivation? Or do you believe that you're better than everyone who tried and failed before?" Long Feng scratched his head, lost for words.
"No one has ever held this jade for a few months and didn't end up with a shattered core. That's all the warning I'm giving you. Are you still going to take it?" The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
"Senior doesn't need to worry. I'm only trying to gain insights from it." Long Feng replied.
"Worry?" The old man snorted.
"Who is worried? You can go and ram your head into a wall for all my old bones care. What insights do you want to gain? That's what a few of them said, thinking they've stumbled upon a hidden treasure. This old man doesn't care. Take it." He yawned, then tapped on the jade with a finger, causing it to glow. Then he handed it back to Long Feng and closed his eyes again, ready to begin snoring. Long Feng was left speechless. What was wrong with this man?
"Um… how long can I hold it for?" He asked lightly. Normally, all techniques had a time limit, and it could be long or short depending on it's demand. The old man waved his arm lazily.
"Keep it as long as you want. At least, you'll be ensuring that no other idiot will come seeking insights. Whenever you return it back, I'm sure you'd have lost your cultivation already." He replied as if it was a natural cycle. Long Feng traced his nose, wondering if everyone who was strong in this sect was also as strange as this old man. He said he was merely going to examine the secret technique, he wasn't actual going to cultivate it…
Seeing that the old man no longer wanted to speak, he turned around and left. As he walked away, he sent his soul power into the jade and noticed that the actual method to cultivate the technique was now engraved in the jade.
"What a unique method to store their techniques… only that old man can unseal the actual core of the technique. What i read earlier was merely the information on it." That ensured that unless someone could beat that old man and force him to unseal the technique, then taking anyone will be useless. And to beat that old man… Long Feng had a feeling defeating the head warden and deacons would be a much more possible feat. He threw the jade into his void ring before strolling back to his cave residence.
Once he got close to the cave though, he slowed down with a frown on his face. There was an unfamiliar youth standing by his cave residence. He was rather handsome with a strangely effeminate feeling. He was dressed in a spotless white robes and held a folding fan in his right hand, which he used to slowly fan himself. Coupled with his hair that was tied with a string, he looked more feminine than masculine.
"Who is that?" Long Feng frowned and continued to approach his cave. As a new disciple, he didn't know anyone. This youth couldn't possibly be here for him. Unfortunately, he was wrong. The youth spotted him from afar and revealed a beautiful smile that made Long Feng feel extremely disgusted. He didn't slow down till he was several meters away from the youth. The youth examined him with a gentle smile before lowering the fan in his hand and taking a few steps forward.
"I presume you are Long Feng?" He asked, causing a crease to form on Long Feng's forehead. How did this person know his name? Most importantly, Long Feng couldn't accurately pinpoint the youth's cultivation. His soul power was simply too weak to deduce that. He nodded, keeping his guards up. One could never be too cautious in a place like the Inner peak. The youth nodded as well, keeping his harmless smile.
"I'm Ren Ji. It's a pleasure to meet you." He extended his arm for a handshake. Long Feng stared at the arm and didn't make a move to receive it, causing the arm to drop a few seconds later. Ren Ji's expression didn't change at all.
"I've heard a lot about you, and your feats leave me in awe. Killing an Imperial as a spirit realm warrior, later killing a deity as an Imperial and passing the inner peak test with an imperial realm cultivation… such feats are extremely rare." His words were casual and friendly, but each word he said caused Long Feng's caution to rise by that much. Clearly, Ren Ji had done his homework and found out everything Long Feng had done since he joined the sect.
"You're exaggerating." He curtly replied. What else did he know? Ren Ji continued, "Hm. Perhaps. Those feats by themselves still aren't much. What actually piqued my interest is…" he focused his pupils on Long Feng's face, watching for the slightest reaction.
"The Dao heart…" he completed with a faint heat in his eyes. Long Feng's eyes instantly narrowed as his right hand instinctively reached for his sword, only to pause midway as he realized his mistake. He had moved based on instincts, and his actions basically told Ren Ji that the 'rumor' wasn't just a rumor. That brought a deeper smile to his face as he glanced at the sword by Long Feng's waist.
"So it's real… I didn't dare to believe it until I confirmed it. You can relax. I assure you, the sword would only be as helpful as a piece of stick."
"Who are you?" Long Feng asked coldly, deeming it unnecessary to keep concealing his expression.
"I'm merely an inner disciple like you. You don't have to worry. I come here today with a proposal for you." He replied calmly, his gentle smile appearing extremely ugly in Long Feng's eyes.
"No thank you. I'm not interested." He quickly replied and made to walk towards his cave. The moment he walked past Ren Ji, he suddenly paused, finding the same Ren Ji standing before him again in the exact same posture with the same distance between them. It was as if… Long Feng never moved. This strange feeling caused him to be stunned. What ability was this?
"You're being too hasty. The proposal is extremely good for you." Ren Ji didn't pay attention to his expression and simply continued speaking. Long Feng's expression turned solemn as he realized that this Ren Ji was stronger than he imagined. How strong was he? Mid stage deity realm? Or refined mid stage? Either, he was beyond Long Feng's ability to handle. Realizing this, Long Feng decided to take a step back and calm down.
"Alright, I'm listening. What's your proposal?" He asked lightly, somewhat expecting what Ren Ji would say next.
"I want the Dao heart you possess." Ren Ji didn't beat around the bush and went straight to the point, causing Long Feng to sigh inwardly. It was exactly as he imagined. There was no way he would agree to this. But before he could speak, Ren Ji continued, "Don't be quick to reject my request. I have some extremely good things in exchange and they will be worth it."
"What are those?"
"Half a thousand low grade essence stones, A lifesaving bronzeflame talisman, a low grade deity resurgence pill and… your life." Ren Ji replied with the harmless smile on his face. Long Feng stared at him blankly. Was this a joke?
"What do you mean?" He asked calmly.
"Don't you understand? The most important thing is that you get to keep your life. I'm honestly not interested in killing you, nor do I want to make things hard for you. As long as you hand the Dao heart over to me, I couldn't care less about you." A cold smile immediately formed on Long Feng's face as he stared at the despicably harmless smile on Ren Ji's face.
"And what if I don't?"
"Well then… you'll have none of the things I mentioned."
