Chương 54: Chapter 53: Attempting to Surpass Trisha

I soon found Selen, as she was at the edge of the forest like usual. She usually stays on the edge to keep an eye out in case Trisha was planning something. After I got close, Selen soon saw me.

"Have you finished healing?" Selen asked, now having turned her attention to me.

"I'm completely healed now. So how are things going outside? Is the situation the same as usual?"

"Yes, those Gods outside are still keeping watch over us. They have learned the perfect distance to know when to run away when I go out to try and kill them. They are quite annoying to look at."

"So, what do you suppose we do now? We can't just continue to stay in the forest and wait until we grow old."

"I suppose we can go out again now that you are healed, but we can't go out too far or Trisha will come attack us again."

"How far do you think we can travel before Trisha can come and catch us?"

"From what I've seen so far, Trisha has developed a way to come here quickly, so we can't go out for more than a few miles. If we go further, then Trisha will come here and kill us."

"I see, so the distance is that short. How about we chase the Gods who are watching us away first, so Trisha will be delayed when coming here?"

"Unfortunately, that won't work, as these Gods have a specialty in speed. Once they see us, they will run away and call Trisha. Once that happens, we have to immediately go back into the forest."

"So, all we can do is kill Gods in the surrounding area that just so happen to appear?"

"That's right, or else Trisha will arrive before we can make it back into safety." This situation, I began realizing, was really bad. At this rate, reaching a level that could fight against Trisha would take a very long time. It was already slow, but now it would take even longer.

"I understand," I sighed.

"Let's do it this way and kill in the surrounding area. If it's slow, then so be it. There isn't much else we can do right now."

"It may take a while, but at least we can ensure our safety," Selen reassured.

"If you are ready, then we can head out whenever you want."

"Let's go right now, then. I have nothing better to do currently and need to get stronger." With that said, we took the risk and left the safe area that was the forest. We rushed as fast as we could, as we were probably already spotted by the Gods sent by Trisha who were watching. I ran in front of Selen, as I was faster than her due to my level, and quickly looked around for Gods to kill. The Gods who were watching us were soon spotted by me, and I wanted to give it a try.

Since we came out of the forest so suddenly, I saw them scrambling to call Trisha for help, but this gave me the opportunity I was looking for. I rushed towards them and began a massacre to prevent them from calling Trisha. Despite Selen's warning, it seems she forgot the fact that Gods are prideful beings that think things are below them. This gave me an opportunity to kill them before they called for Trisha. Once I was done, Selen had just arrived and looked around.

She was surprised that I had actually killed the Gods Trisha sent.

"You actually managed to do it," Selen said in shock.

"I didn't think you could do it, but I was wrong."

"I wouldn't say that far, but we certainly have more time now. I doubt Trisha didn't have a backup plan in case we somehow managed to kill the Gods she sent."

"I see, so we should hurry then." Selen nodded, and we quickly continued moving outward to find Gods to kill. It didn't matter who we killed, as everyone was either an ally of Trisha or remained neutral. Those who were neutral would attack us if given the chance, as it would mean being owed a favor by Trisha. All Gods in this world were like this, as they were all greedy and selfish. This gave me no psychological hesitation to kill indiscriminately, as Gods weren't exactly kind.

Other than Freed and Selen, I had yet to meet another kind God that treated me well. So, whenever I saw a God in my way, I killed them. I continued the process for as long as I could, waiting for the last moment until Trisha came. Days passed while I continued to kill Gods having traveled quite a distance away from Freed's forest. I had become somewhat overconfident, as Trisha still hadn't come yet. It seemed she wouldn't come, so I continued to kill outward with Selen following close behind.

The further we went out, the more Gods we could kill and level up. After a year of this, I started to feel the situation was a little off. Too many Gods had appeared along the way, and we had traveled quite some distance from Freed's forest. Trisha still hadn't come yet, and I started to feel this was somewhat deliberate. I had killed enough Gods to reach level 9999 during this time, and Selen level 8462. We had been leveling up far too casually.

I originally thought Trisha was trying to lure us away from Freed's forest, but it no longer seemed that was the case, as I had reached the same level as her. It was very strange, as I couldn't understand how she hadn't realized we left the forest yet. This gave me constant anxiety despite being confident I could now fight on equal footing with Trisha. Since I couldn't figure out the reason, I decided to put the worry aside, as we were now not so weak that Trisha could chase us down and kill us.

I continued to help Selen level up, as I still wanted to be absolutely sure that we could defeat Trisha. After another five years of helping Selen level up, she had reached level 8999. She was now at the edge of becoming a high-level God, which would help greatly when fighting Trisha. During this time, Trisha still hadn't appeared yet, and I was starting to get worried. With how much she hated us, I refused to believe she would just let us grow like this.

This meant she was either unsure that she could defeat us, or she was planning something much larger that could ensure her victory. This fueled my uneasy feeling, as the lingering threat was far too large. Still, since Trisha was giving us such a large opportunity, I couldn't just stay idle and wanted to continue Selen's progress. I also refused to believe that with the both of us combined, we were weaker than Trisha now. Ever since reaching level 9999, I realized how difficult it was to level up again.

Nothing I did showed how to level up to level 10000. Due to this, I also believed there was no way Trisha could reach such a level, so her beating us now was absurd. Thinking about it this way, my worries vanished, as there was not much I could do about a threat that refused to come. My intention was to make Selen reach level 9999 first before going to face Trisha. If we went now, I wasn't completely confident we could beat her. I was absolutely sure we could escape, but beating her was not guaranteed.

So, if Selen also reached level 9999, then everything would be fine. So, we continued to kill Gods, and time continued to pass by. The more Selen leveled up, the less afraid I was of Trisha. With our strength combined, we had nothing left to fear anymore. Another hundred years passed by in the blink of an eye, as Trisha still never came. At this point, Selen had reached level 9674 and was now the third strongest God from what I could tell.

I felt the progress was very smooth, and we now had a definite chance of killing Trisha. Nothing was a match for us now with how strong we were combined. However, the feeling was short-lived, as Trisha quietly appeared out of nowhere. Originally, I thought we would be fine, but it soon changed as I felt extremely threatened by her. When I looked to see what was going on, I realized she had reached level 10000. This was a level that I couldn't understand, but I knew it meant she was very dangerous.

It might be only a one-level difference, but the presence she gave off was immense, as I could tell I couldn't defeat her. This prompted me to immediately think of running away. I grabbed Selen and made a run for it, wanting to get away as soon as possible. Though I didn't know how we would beat her in the future, our safety came first. As I continued to run, Trisha still hadn't followed yet, but I didn't care and continued to run away.

After we ran far enough that I couldn't see her anymore, I thought that we had managed to get away. I was soon proven wrong, as she was once again chasing after us. It appeared she was playing around and gave us a head start. I now felt even more fear, as she had the leisure to let us gain so much distance. This meant that she was fully confident in killing us. Selen and I continued running, though, as death was now right behind us. We continued to run, hoping to make it back to Freed's forest in time.
