I began by finding lone Gods to attack first, as they were much easier targets. Since the most powerful God here was Jason and I had already killed him, the rest were not as difficult. I quickly killed a very low-level God who was barely considered a God. I continued to move on as I lured several Gods into one-on-one scenarios and won every time. Soon after I killed about half of the remaining Gods, the rest of them caught on to what I was doing and no longer traveled alone.
At this point, I had reached Level 5715 and no longer feared the remaining low-level Gods. I started to attack the smaller groups who were still searching for me and easily eliminated them. As I worked my way through and finally killed the last group of Gods, I reached Level 6115. I was not yet at the rank of a mid-level God, but I still felt quite powerful. Having finished my task, I left the castle and quickly reunited with Freed.
"Good job," Freed praised after I arrived in front of him.
"Let's go back and plan our next move since you've leveled up sufficiently." Freed began moving fast again, and I still could barely keep up despite my elevated level. After arriving back in the forest, Freed continued to train me, wanting me to get a little stronger so that I could continue fighting against Gods. Another year passed by, and my swordsmanship leveled up again, becoming [EX] Divine Swordsmanship (Lv. 31).
Having finished another year of training, Freed sent me out again to kill some more low-level Gods, as I should be able to easily handle them now. This time, I faced low-level Gods who were subordinates of Trisha. Since they were enemies, I didn't hold back and killed them without worry. After doing so, Freed made me go back and train as I leveled up more. This process repeated for a few years, as Freed was training me to become the strongest God.
Another ten years passed, and I reached level 7612, which made me officially a mid-level God. Along with this, my swordsmanship had reached [EX] Divine Swordsmanship (Lv. 40). I had grown decently and felt that I was ready for whatever challenge Freed threw my way next. The task he gave me, though, surprised me despite my confidence.
"You will be fighting the Dragon God Flander next, who is one of the stronger subordinates of Trisha," Freed said.
"Flander is at level 8101, which should pose some challenge, but I believe you should be able to handle it."
"Are you sure I'm ready to face someone so far above my level?" I asked.
"I don't think I'm ready."
"You should be ready, as you are both mid-level Gods. Don't worry and just fight him with peace of mind." Not giving me much of a choice, Freed started to lead the way before I could object further. Seeing him leave, I quickly followed behind, as Freed had never led me astray before. After a few days of travel, we arrived at a scorched land that was burning with intense heat. Volcanoes could be seen in the distance as the land was on fire everywhere.
At my current level, the heat didn't affect me much, but the environment looked very inhospitable. This place was truly fit for a dragon like Flander, and I knew we had arrived. Like usual, Freed disappeared after we arrived and left me alone to complete the task myself. I started to sneak in, as I didn't want to alert the enemy yet since Flander was still a much higher level than me.
Once I sneaked in, I could see several other mid-level Gods roaming around, and I became even more vigilant, not wanting to fight all of them at once. During these past years, I had only been killing low level gods and hadn't faced a mid-level god yet. I was very wary of a mid-level God, as they were far stronger than anything I had faced before. Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.
As I continued to sneak inward, I finally arrived just outside the throne room and peeked around the corner to see Flander seated casually on his throne. Flander looked the same as I remembered, with an appearance very close to a dragon, though he still had mostly humanoid features. I wanted to launch a sneak attack on Flander before he could react, but something tipped him off as I heard his voice calling out to me.
"Come out, you sneaky rat. I can smell you out there, so don't think you can just keep hiding." Since my position was compromised, I decided to attack now while he didn't know who I was. Rushing forward, I began slashing my sword with all the power I had. Flander quickly countered with his scaled arms. His arms were extremely durable, and my sword came to an abrupt stop after making contact.
"It's you," Flander said in surprise, now having a clear view of my face.
"So, you survived my attack back then. I thought for sure I managed to kill you with such a large attack before running out of time."
"So, what if it's me? I will kill you today and avenge myself for what you did to me back then."
"You can try, but do you think you can succeed?" Flander swung his arm hard, pushing me back despite my continuous forward momentum. I knew that Flander was exceptionally strong, so this fight was going to be very difficult.
"With this level of skill, do you seriously think you have the means to fight against me?" Flander boasted as he began to get up from his throne.
"Let's see if you truly have the skill to back up your claim." Flander swiftly moved forward and punched hard enough to make the surrounding air tremble. Feeling the imminent danger, I quickly got out of the way, as I didn't want to block such a devastating attack. The punch struck empty air, unleashing a massive shockwave that tore through everything in its path. Where I had just dodged was now a deep fissure that stretched all the way outside the throne room and far beyond into the distance.
Flander was truly strong, and I couldn't afford to be careless or I would die. I raised my vigilance once again, ready for whatever Flander was going to do next. Flander opened his mouth and unleashed a burning inferno that engulfed the entire throne room. Unable to dodge, I slashed down with everything I had and cut the fire clean in half. Behind the flames, Flander had already prepared his next attack and appeared right in front of me.
Unable to evade in such a short window, I had to block it directly with my sword. The weight of the collision was unbearable, and my arms felt like they could break at any moment. Pushing back with all my might, I managed to prevent his fist from driving any closer. Having halted his strike, I took the chance to retreat and recollect myself. Not allowing me any room to breathe, Flander quickly pursued and continued to attack in the narrow space between us.
Every blow Flander landed hurt badly, as I was constantly sustaining further injuries and found myself unable to counter. After a long and grueling struggle, I had finally collected enough information about how Flander's attack patterns worked. I was starting to counter his strikes and dodge whenever an opening appeared. Flander was now visibly annoyed, as the fight was dragging on and it seemed I was becoming capable of fighting back.
Not wanting to let me adapt any further, Flander unleashed everything in his arsenal to overwhelm me. Since I now understood how his attacks worked, I spotted the weak point and slashed directly at it. The flames parted easily under my refined mastery, and I smoothly dodged the full power punch that followed right behind. Taking advantage of Flander being overextended mid punch, I slashed down at him, intending to deliver a lethal blow.
It didn't go entirely as planned, as Flander managed to twist his body in time, losing only an arm as my blade came down with full force. Now heavily bleeding from where his arm used to be, Flander completely lost the arrogant look he had before.
"How about we leave it here?" Flander asked, no longer feeling that his victory was guaranteed.
"It won't do either of us any good to continue this fight for no reason." I ignored Flander's plea and pressed my attack. Unable to convince me, Flander resumed fighting, but this time he was the one defending. As the battle dragged on, Flander's wound worsened while I continuously capitalized on his missing limb. At the cost of a few minor injuries, I inflicted significantly heavier damage on Flander without him being able to stop me.
Finally, bleeding out and exhausted, Flander collapsed to his knees, completely unable to continue.
"Do you have any last words?" I asked, my victory now assured.
"You may kill me now, but Trisha will avenge me," Flander squeezed out, trying to threaten me with his remaining energy. Unbothered by his threats, I delivered the finishing strike and sliced off Flander's head. It rolled across the floor, and the rest of his lifeless body collapsed on the ground. With Flander's death, a system notification appeared: Level Up: 7898 Having suffered too many injuries, I couldn't properly celebrate my level up and quickly prepared to escape the area.
After slipping past several other Gods who were heading towards the throne room, I managed to barely escape after killing Flander. Once outside, I sat down to rest, covered in wounds and needing time to heal.
"Ready for your next task?" Freed asked, having reappeared out of nowhere.
"I guess you want me to kill the other Gods who are still alive in this place."
"That's right, you know me so well now. Once you're done, we will be going back to train, as I will soon give you another challenge to take on." Freed vanished after saying what he needed, leaving me to recover. This time, my injuries were much more serious, and it took me quite a while to recover. After two days of dedicated rest, I felt fine again and was ready to eliminate the other mid-level Gods.
