Nox Selen, seeing my sorry state, began, "I was just watching from the side to see how you were doing now that you had angered such a powerful goddess like Trisha. To think I have to intervene to save you is quite annoying." I suddenly felt relieved as Selen was here to save me. Having such a powerful backer means I might not die today. I wasn't sure who was stronger between the two, but they are both fallen gods, so Selen can buy some time for me to do something.
Nox, seeing Selen blocking his way, asked, "Why are you stopping me from killing this heretic?" Selen replied, "This man here is my disciple and is the future of my line of swordsmanship. I won't let him just die like this." Nox stated, "If you don't leave right now, then you will meet the same fate as him being killed meaninglessly." Selen then adopted a fighting pose and answered, "I won't back down. If you want to get past me, then let's fight."
Nox, suddenly remembering, noted, "Aren't you that goddess that tried to defy Trisha's words some time ago? No wonder you are trying to get in my way. Are you trying to defy Trisha again and end up worse than you already are?" Selen replied, "So what if I am the same goddess? I will still choose to do what I want." Nox, seemingly unable to convince Selen, stopped trying. Instead, Nox got serious and started materializing weapons around him, preparing to attack.
It seems what Nox did when facing me wasn't even him being serious. The pressure he was emitting now was several times more dangerous, as he was no longer holding back. Selen also did the same, as the sense of danger coming from her also spiked. This was truly a spectacle as two fallen gods were about to fight right in front of my eyes. In the next moment, the two disappeared from my eyes as they moved too fast for me to keep up.
Despite my current level, the sheer skill and experience these two had made every move they made devoid of flaws. This caused every move to be barely perceptible. Even when compared to the level 4999 apostle of god from before, that apostle now seemed like a chicken about to be slaughtered compared to these two. I don't know what kind of power they had, but something made their power significantly stronger compared to a normal mortal since they are fallen gods.
As the battle went on, I could see slices from Selen landing all over the place, cutting up the environment, while Nox was shooting his weapons in fast succession, making large craters everywhere the weapons landed. I originally thought I could help from the side, but I was completely wrong, as this was way above my level. It appears I still had much to improve to even remotely approach this level of power. As I couldn't do anything, I just kept watching their blurs, trying to see who had the upper hand.
After a lengthy exchange between the two, they finally started to become visible again. Selen had all kinds of wounds on her body as cuts went deep into her body. Nox, on the other hand, had his entire arm sliced off. The two were now exhausted from their exchange, but it seems Selen had the upper hand. The two soon continued their exchange after a short rest, and they became a blur again. If you encounter this tale on Amazon, note that it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
As the battle continued, they became slow enough for me to see what was happening, as Selen was redirecting all of Nox's attacks away and letting the ones that were non-fatal through to gain a chance to counterattack Nox. Selen was trading minor injuries in exchange for a chance to deal heavy damage on Nox. Nox soon found out what Selen was doing and decided to risk everything, as the battle was no longer in his favor. Nox left himself wide open to charge an attack that would deal lethal damage all at once.
Selen, taking advantage of this, slashed down now that there was such a huge chance in front of her. The moment Selen cut Nox in half, Nox did the same and launched his attack, which landed directly on Selen. Selen was slightly hit before managing to make contact with her sword with the spear that Nox had launched. As the force of the attack was so large, she was sent backwards and slammed hard against the ground with the spear still pressing against her.
The two were now both heavily injured and were on their last few breaths. Selen, squeezing out whatever energy she could, tried to speak while still trying to defend against the spear, still having not lost its power after so long. Selen yelled, "Hurry up and finish him off. Now that he is this badly hurt, even you can deal the final blow."
After saying what she needed, Selen put her full attention back to defending against the spear, as she was now in a stalemate with the spear, which could pierce her at any second. Since it was now my turn to act, I quickly moved to action. I took out my sword and slashed at the upper half of the body, which still contained the living head of the god Nox. Nox, who was still aware despite losing half his body, yelled, "This isn't the end. Goddess Trisha will avenge me for what you are trying to do now.
Don't ever expect an easy life from now on since you dared to kill me." Ignoring Nox's words, I dealt the finishing blow, completely slicing off Nox's head and ending a fallen god's life. Now with Nox dead, the spear that was still keeping Selen preoccupied started to lose power and eventually fell to the side. Selen then finally stood back up with several wounds on her body that said she wasn't fine. I, on the other hand, got an interesting surprise from killing a fallen god.
I had leveled up several times more than when I killed the level 4999 apostle of god from before. My system notified: Level Up: 4758 Fallen gods simply give far too many experience points. It would be nice to gain a few more if I could. Recovering from my surprise, I quickly went to go help Selen. I then took her back to the kingdom to get healed by Sophia, as she was better at healing magic than I was.
I left the battlefield as it was, as I didn't have time, and soon arrived back in the kingdom and had Sophia immediately start her healing magic. The injuries were far too numerous and took a lot of effort to heal. Whenever Sophia ran out of magic, I gave her more to supply her with enough to heal. After a whole day, Selen was finally mostly recovered. Now that she was recovered, I asked, "What will you do now that you helped me and offended the goddess Trisha?"
Selen replied, "I already offended her before, so it doesn't make much of a difference now. I will stay here from now on to watch over you, as you cause far too much trouble. Though I have nothing left to teach you, I still have some power to keep you safe until you're strong enough." I was happy to hear that she was willing to stay, but having to need her to protect me didn't feel exactly the best. I had no choice though, as I was still too weak to repel fallen gods, and who knows what Trisha might do next.
I then showed Selen to one of the best rooms we had and had her settle there. To repay her, I asked, "Do you want me to do anything for you?" Selen thought for a moment before replying, "Originally I was going to rely on you to spread my sword path to regain a steady stream of faith to regain my godhood, but now that you are a leader of a kingdom, maybe there is another way." I asked, "What way might that be?"
Selen answered, "I used to gain faith by teaching others the sword, but eventually, after becoming a fallen god, nobody wanted to worship a fallen god anymore. If you can build a new religion in my name and give me a steady stream of faith, maybe I can regain my godhood this way." I replied, "I will do it, as I owe you far too much. I will find some way to introduce a new religion in your name in my kingdom. There will now be a temple for you everywhere in the kingdom."
Reassured by my words, Selen nodded and went to rest in the room I gave her. She was still tired from such an exhaustive fight against Nox, and I didn't want to interrupt her and left. I owe her far too much and would never be able to repay her, so I can only do what I can. Since I now have a goal in mind, I will do my best to promote a new religion in Selen's name.
