The fight with the old man was neither easy nor hard, as my level was higher, but the old man was no slouch himself. Being the leader of an entire faction meant this man had seen his fair share of conflicts, so he managed to hold me back for a few moments while I was still testing his strength. The battle soon turned in my favor as I overwhelmed him in both skill level and my actual level, and he began to be pushed back against the wall.
With nowhere left for him to go, my sword slowly drew closer as the king's face started to tighten from the stress of holding me off. Once the sword was right above his head, he started to glow, preventing me from getting any closer and dealing the finishing blow. The light was very familiar to me, as I had seen it several times now and couldn't mistake it for anything else. A god was descending into the king's body.
Knowing full well how powerful a descended god was, I started to run away until the time ran out, and the god was forcibly ejected from this world. I quickly jumped out the window of the skyscraper, which was several stories above the ground, and began to free-fall with the wind blowing right into my face. By the time I landed on the ground safely using wind magic, the god had completely descended and flew out of the room I was in.
I continued my escape with the god following close behind without letting me get too far away. Every time he got close, I would tactically take a turn to confuse the god to give myself some time. After a long and exhausting chase, I was exhausted and could no longer continue to run, as I had now run quite a distance away from the city. I also felt it was about time for the god's descension to end soon.
Since I stopped, the god quickly caught up, but the light surrounding him had started to fade, signifying his limited time left. Not wanting to waste whatever time he had left, the god began his attack immediately. With some of my energy returning from the short rest, I dodged out of the way of his powerful attacks while blocking the minor ones. In the process, I received several minor injuries, as I simply wasn't a match for a god and had only gotten this far by taking advantage of his overconfidence.
Gods tend to belittle mortals, so the god didn't take me all that seriously until now, when he was running out of time. Now, with the time running down, the god became very frantic in attacking me. I dodged what I could and was painfully injured by whatever I couldn't. With the time finally running out, and in the last moment he had, the god sent down his most powerful attack.
The god created lightning the size of a skyscraper and hurled it at me before the light on the god's body completely disappeared, showing he had run out of time. Taking advantage of this, I quickly threw my sword at the dying king's disappearing body, as I needed to level up before facing the lightning that was coming my way. With my precise, momentary action, my sword pierced through the king's body and truly killed him before he could disappear.
I then leveled up, and my system said: Level up: 4999 Enjoying this book? Seek out the original to ensure the author gets credit. It seems killing someone who had just descended gave me plenty of experience points, probably due to how high-level a god was. Though I didn't kill a god directly, I managed to get what was left. Now, with my power at the limit of a mortal, I used every means I had to block the lightning that was still heading toward me.
The moment the lightning made contact, I immediately felt the weight of a god's full-powered attack as my flesh was igniting on fire and pain was spreading throughout my body. As the lightning was slowly losing power, my arms were almost completely fried, and I was running dangerously low on energy. With my final burst of energy, I completely stopped the lightning and saved my own life.
Once I finished, I collapsed on the ground, unable to move, but happy that I had finally resolved the crisis on the Magical Continent. With the king dead, they will be leaderless and won't think about attacking or doing anything for a long time. I won't have to worry about the Magical Continent anytime soon, as this experience should have taught them a lesson to stop expanding and offending people they shouldn't.
After waiting for a day to try to recover from my injuries with healing magic, I saw a change on my system window, as I now had a percentage beside it. My system window now said: Level 4999 [1%] From my guess, it is probably the divinity that Selen was talking about which you needed to become a god. Since it was progressing, it most likely meant I had believers. Considering my organization had hundreds of members as well as helping rule a kingdom, it made sense that I would have some believers to provide faith.
I happily accepted what I could and continued to heal my injuries. Once my injuries had somewhat healed, I went back to the boat, as I now knew the way and no longer needed anyone to guide me. After another two weeks of riding the boat, I finally came back to the Human Continent and returned to the Kingdom of Equality to continue my recovery. Everyone, seeing my sorry state, told me to quickly go rest, which I obeyed as I was now very tired and still injured.
Following a month of recovery, I finally completely healed with the help of Sophia's healing magic. Now that I was recovered, I went back to my training, as gaining divinity had given me a new perspective on the power of a god. I spent several months after that building upon this enlightenment and leveled up my skill to [EX] Swordsmanship (Lv. 12). With this change, I felt a large boost in my power, as skills at the divine tier gave large increments.
Not stopping with just that, I continued to spend more time focusing entirely on improving my sword skills, as my divinity was constantly going up from faith. Several years passed by peacefully, as nothing in particular happened other than me continuing to train for what was to come. I wasn't sure when Trisha would cause more trouble, so I had to continue growing stronger. Once ten years had passed, I had reached [EX] Swordsmanship (Lv. 20), which was now comparable to the same height in swordsmanship as Selen.
Following this, my system also said: Level 4999 [99%] I only needed a bit more before I reached the level of a god, which I anticipated so I could finally face a true god. Selen was in the same position as me, as I could see her percentage was filled to 99%, which meant we could possibly ascend to godhood together. As I continued to train for the fateful day, trouble finally came after ten years of waiting. The sky showed a bright light as two figures descended from the bright light.
It seems yet again another two fallen gods had arrived under the orders of the goddess Trisha. The ten-year-long peace had finally come to an end, though I wasn't worried due to all the preparations I had made. Even though I didn't have as much experience as a god who had lived an uncountable amount of years, I was now strong enough to hold off a fallen god long enough for others to help and kill the fallen god.
During this time, Shiro had made significant progress in technology and had told me she had a secret weapon now that far exceeded the power of a nuclear bomb. The catch was that she had only managed to make one, so we had to use it sparingly. Since the situation was urgent, we had to use it, though it took time to fire it off due to how powerful it was. I could handle it, though, as Selen and I could hold them off just long enough for the fallen gods to be hit by the secret weapon.
The two fallen gods were quite impatient and started to quickly approach the kingdom, seemingly already having a target in mind. I knew this would happen and was already prepared to hold them off for as long as needed until Shiro was finished with her preparations. I wanted to end the threat of the fallen gods today so I could bring another era of peace before I ascended to the world of the gods to finally confront Trisha myself.
The goddess Trisha was very persistent in her goals, and I needed to put an end to her unending schemes to try to eliminate us. Since this was the case, Selen and I headed toward the fallen gods to stall for time.
