One day, as I was coming home from high school like usual after finishing my usual manga club meeting, out of nowhere a dark, eerie portal suddenly appeared beneath me, making me fall in. What followed was a slightly crushing, cold feeling as I was constantly moving in a dark space. After a few moments, I finally saw light shining brightly in front of me as I was dragged into it. The next thing I knew, I opened my eyes to a bright, grand castle surrounded by lots of people in medieval clothes.
At the center sat a man on a throne wearing a crown. Next to him were two women. One woman was similar in age to the man. On the other side sat a beautiful woman the same age as me. The young woman had dark black hair that was near her waist, her face had a gentle look, and she wore a long, frilly dress. After taking in my surroundings for a brief moment, I heard shouts around me in great fanfare, "It succeeded! We have summoned a hero from another world.
We can now finally end the war against those horrendous and ugly demons." I didn't understand what they were saying. What were they talking about, "Hero"? I was just an average high schooler. The man on the throne suddenly waved his hand, silencing the group surrounding me. The man finally addressed me, saying, "I am the King of the Trist Kingdom. I have summoned you to aid in our fight against the demons. As for why you were chosen, our magic summoned the person most suitable to become the hero based on fate.
As you were summoned, our mighty Goddess has summoned you to hear our calls." Hearing the King's explanation, I finally realized this was a different world. I finally woke from my delirious state as everything felt so bizarre, as if it was a dream. After all, I had never heard of anyone being teleported from a portal to another world. So, I said to the King, "I'm just an average young boy with no powers, nor do I know magic. What do you expect me to do, as I can't even fight, much less help you end a war?"
The King felt as if the result was expected, as it wouldn't be so easy to summon a powerful being to instantly end the war. The King then explained, "You may be weak now, but that doesn't mean you will be in the future. As you were chosen by the Goddess, you should have the means to become strong. We don't know how strong you'll become with the Goddess's blessing, but you will not remain weak."
I couldn't understand what was going on, but from the explanation, it seemed I had no choice but to go along for the time being. The King then asked, "What is your name, hero?" I replied, "I am Ren Amaya." The King said, "Ren Amaya, you shall be the hero from today onwards, and my daughter, the Princess, shall show you around as you seem to be close in age." The Princess then stood up and said, "I am Sophia. Let's get along, hero."
That day was my first time in this world, full of confusion, but I managed to get through it. What followed after that day was painful, as the training to become stronger was grueling. Every morning I was awoken and forced to train. Running several miles in the morning, learning swordsmanship in the afternoon, and magic at night. The Princess was on the side most of the time to cheer me on, but it didn't make the situation better.
Though having a companion in the tough times did improve the boredom of the tedious days, and we became friends as we talked about our experiences. This went on for months until finally I was brought outside the kingdom. The first thing I saw outside the kingdom was a monster. It was green and grotesque, making a screeching noise. It was something I had seen in a fantasy story, a goblin. The task they gave me was to start my path in killing monsters, and so I had to fight and kill this goblin. Love this story?
Find the genuine version on the author's preferred platform and support their work! I was given a sword and pushed in front of the goblin. It was my first time encountering a monster, so I tensed up, but after months of grueling training, I knew my way around combat. I then swung my sword as fast and strong as I could. The goblin tried to block, but I was faster, and I ended the fight in one attack.
After killing the goblin, a strange, faint light could be seen from the goblin, which entered my body, and I suddenly felt like I had gotten stronger. The people who were watching my battle in the background explained, "That energy you saw can only be seen by yourself. This happens whenever you kill a monster, and it gives you a slight boost in strength depending on how strong the being you killed was. The stronger you become, the less noticeable the gain in strength you gain."
Someone else who had come directed, "Since you completed your first kill so fast, we shall continue to move forward. Let's aim to kill at least ten goblins today." After that day, I repeated this process, slowly working my way up killing monsters. I always killed weak monsters, but I could feel my strength increasing every day. My magic also improved upon killing these monsters to the point that casting a low level spell like fireball was no longer difficult and could defeat a goblin in one hit.
This continued for several months until I reached the point where killing groups of low level monsters was no longer difficult. Seeing this, the people in the castle were satisfied and decided it was about time to end the training and send the hero on his way to temper himself to defeat the Demon King. The King ordered, "Starting from today, you shall adventure outside my kingdom without our help, as too much help will hinder your development. My daughter shall follow you.
Even though her magic for attack is low, she has a strong affinity with support magic and could heal or enhance your strength along the way. It is the duty of the royal family to help you, the hero, in slaying the Demon King. Now go forth and achieve glory." On that day, I was given some supplies, gold, and was sent with the Princess out of the kingdom. What followed was a very long adventure. I started by going to a nearby adventurer town, signed up as an adventurer, and accepted missions for gold.
I slowly worked my way up, gaining wealth with the Princess's help. Soon my strength increased many times over, and I had reached the level of an S rank adventurer, one of the few on the continent. Word spread, and soon some people wanted to join our party to gain glory. I rejected them all except one. The companion I chose was a mage. She was the strongest mage in the guild as she was also an S rank adventurer.
She had a large pointy hat, wore a dark robe that made it hard to see her body figure, and had short red hair. She had her own charm, but it was hard to tell with how her robes covered so much of her body. This woman joined because she heard I was the hero and wanted to do her part in defeating the Demon King. She introduced herself as Maria and was confident that she could help against the Demon King.
The current war against the Demon King was stable, as several kingdoms were holding them off at the edge of the continent where they were coming from. The monsters were constantly invading in droves, and some even managed to get through. Over the course of several hundred years, many monsters had gathered across the continent, so getting rid of all of them would take too much effort. The monsters that got through were left for adventurers to clean up if they became too much of a problem, and a balance was reached.
After reaching S rank, I felt I was strong enough to get more challenging tasks, so I headed to the border with Sophia and the mage Maria. Upon arriving, I saw just how devastating the war was. I realized just how bad the war was, as I saw bodies scattered everywhere and the soldiers were all injured. My party and I decided to help fight off the monsters. At this time, I realized just how weak I was even though I was an S rank adventurer.
There were several high level monsters that took several people to kill, and even I with my party had to exert massive effort just to kill one. The only advantage humans had, despite being so much weaker, was the sheer quantity, as humans made up almost ten times as many as the monsters appearing on the border. My fight on the border continued for several years, until one day I realized nothing on the border was a challenge anymore and my team had also gotten more cohesive and worked together well.
Now I could instantly kill any monster in my way that came, and the casualties on the human side had decreased. During this process, there was an excess of manpower, and one of the S ranks overseeing the border came to me to join my party to fight the Demon King. This person was a woman knight named Claire. She wore light armor, had a sword at her side, looked very noble, and had long blonde hair in a ponytail.
She had seen my party fight so well against the monsters that she realized the humans might just have a chance against the Demon King, so she wanted to help. I accepted, as I realized I needed as much help as I could get, but my team members couldn't be too weak, or we would suffer more than be helped. As an S rank adventurer, she should be able to hold her own on the battlefield. At this point, I could even fight multiple S rank adventurers and win.
So, as the border was no longer a challenge anymore and staying would be pointless, I left towards the sea to the demonic continent. My adventure on the demonic continent was to my expectations. The continent was swarming with monsters, but to my surprise, even though I killed the aggressive monsters at the edge of the demonic continent, the further in I went, the more normal the demons and monsters became. They had their own towns and lived very similarly to humans.
The only difference was that the demonic continent was barren with few resources, and the soil was hard to grow food in. I then seemed to understand why the demons wanted to invade. My party initially wanted to attack these monsters and demons and purge them before they could continue growing stronger, but I stopped them. Since they had intellectual thought, maybe we could reason with them once everything was over, once the Demon King was defeated.
My party eventually were convinced and followed my decision, and we slowly made our way towards the Demon King. Along the way, I killed any hostile demons and monsters and grew even stronger, hoping my strength could defeat the Demon King. After several months, I had killed many high-level demons and monsters that had increased my strength several times over. I felt like now I was ready to fight the Demon King.
