Last night, I spent too much time on practicing the Earth Magic for long time, trying to develop my Earth Attributes as possessing the Earth Attribute was the basic requirement for learning Gravity Magic. So I couldn't help but feel sleepy while listening to the teacher's lecture.
"Students, our lesson today is on basic Number System and its operations."
"As we all know, Numbers are broadly divided into two types Real Numbers and Imaginary Numbers, where the Real numbers are further divided into Rational and Irrational Numbers where Rational numbers are further divided into Natural Numbers, Integers, Whole Numbers..."
"Our subject consists of basic Natural Numbers, Whole Numbers, and Integers. Let's talk about Natural Numbers. Natural numbers are..." The chalk made tik-tik sound as the passerby Mathematics teacher wrote on the blackboard and talked passionately about the Number System.
"Yawn..." Teacher's lectures are always the best lullaby for students. Listening to the teacher speaking on the podium, I couldn't help but close my eyes and fall asleep on my desk.
"Robert..."
"Mr. Robert..."
"Robert Von Anglus..." Who is speaking so loudly, disturbing my sleep? I couldn't help but wave my hand in sleep while muttering something like 'abbababa' But then— Whoosh! Snap! I slowly opened my eyes, only to see everyone in the class staring at me with wide eyes. Hm! What just happened? Why is everyone looking at me? When I followed their gazes, I found they weren't looking at me but at the chalk in my hand. When did I grab this? I don't remember holding a chalk. I turned my head toward the podium.
There stood the mathematics teacher with his arm still stretched forward from the throwing motion, his face twitching slightly as he stared at the chalk in my hand. Ah? It took my half-asleep brain a few seconds to connect everything together. Did I just instinctively catch the chalk he threw at me? How did I do that? Was my sneak attacks PTSD reflex The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation.
Back when training with Master Belius, I realised that I had a passive skill of my own which was beyond System Control. I called it Sneak Attack PTSD Reflex which appeared after the trauma caused by Volth and Carol. It is basically an instinctive response which appears when I am sneak attacked. Back then, Master Belius never succeed in his sneak attacks from behind or any angle I couldn't see because of this skill. Returning to the classroom, the teacher slowly lowered his hand before speaking in a stiff voice.
"Mr. Robert Von Anglus."
"... Yes, teacher?"
"Would you please come on stage and kindly explain what I taught till now?" I looked up the black board and saw the title " Number System" written in bold fonts.
"If it's just Number System then it's very easy!"
"Easy, you say..." After walking up to the podium, I noticed that teacher's expression had darkened. It seems I had said something superfluous.
"Then I will begin...""'Number System' is a system used to represent and express numbers in mathematics, which is broadly divided into two categories of numbers—Real Numbers and Imaginary Numbers." As I spoke, I casually picked up a piece of chalk from the tray and began drawing a neat diagram on the blackboard.
"Real Numbers are numbers that can represent quantities on a number line. They are further divided into Rational Numbers and Irrational Numbers. Imaginary Numbers are represented in a+ib format where i is...." Another pair of branches appeared under Real Numbers.
"Rational Numbers are numbers that can be expressed in the form p/q, where q isn't zero. Examples include integers, fractions, terminating decimals, and recurring decimals."
"Irrational Numbers are numbers which cannot be expressed in fractional form and have non-terminating non-repeating decimal expansions. Examples include pi, e, √2, etc."
"Natural Numbers are counting numbers beginning from one to infinite. Whereas whole Numbers are Natural Numbers including zero. Integers however include both negative numbers, positive numbers, and zero." By the time I finished explaining, the entire class became deathly silent and even the teacher couldn't help but be surprised. Everyone, be it Princess Yumina or any other student, they were all looking at me with disbelief in their eyes. Even teacher was looking at me with shocked eyes.
"That's all, can I go back teacher?" The mathematics teacher remained frozen in place. His mouth opened slightly before closing again, as though his brain had yet to process everything I had just said. Finally, he spoke, "Robert."
"Yes, teacher?" The teacher pointed toward the blackboard with slightly trembling fingers.
"Where... exactly did you learn all this?"
"From books?" I answered naturally but I had yet to realise that I had gone overboard in my explanation. The reason being that everything I explained was previously written on board. The teacher's lips twitched visibly.
"..." Meanwhile, whispers had already started spreading throughout the classroom.
"Is this really the Robert we know? Wasn't he just a good for nothing scoundrel?"
"What do you know, Robert managed to draw with Lady Shinika in the previous practice session? He isn't a good for nothing."
"I know right. I always said that the rumours about him were too exaggerated and false."
"Heh, you were the one who spoke the loudest among us back then."
"But I have changed now, haven't I?"
"Stop bickering. Robert might really be a hidden star that we were all unaware of." Princess Yumina herself was staring at the blackboard thoughtfully, her eyes filled with myriad of thoughts.
"Then teacher, can I go back?"
"Yes!" The teacher's face looked heavy for some reason. After I returned, the teacher coughed loudly before regaining his composure.
"Ahem! While Robert's explanation was impressive some portions exceed the current lesson curriculum. So students who didn't understand the part beyond Natural Numbers, Whole Numbers, and Integers, do not worry. It's a topic from Second and Third grade." Ah! Now I know why everyone was giving me that weird look! Turns out I was talking about things out of the syllabus.....
