Chương 156: Chapter 139. Cattle

" I'm surprised it's taking this long to find them." I voiced my opinion as we rode in the middle of the night. Sarah, Anna and I led the charge of a group of about 20 "special" Demons. We were all on horseback, as 23 currently, was the maximum amount of horses Paradise has. Another problem I'll have to solve at some point." Well, I can only read where they generally are. If we were in the day, it'd be a different story. I wonder if there's a way to Evolve my eyes?" Anna responded to me.

I should reiterate that I'm not annoyed, but surprised. Anna is like a walking satellite system usually. Just from the fact that it's the night and the Ashura Cattle are ranked at D-Class. It's hard for her to find them among all of the B and A class Monsters that live around Paradise. With some wise words from Ruby, who was following behind us, we headed North, where she believes Ashura Cattle graze the most. Anna is searching all over in that direction and hasn't been able to pinpoint anything.

I wonder if Ashura Cattle have some kind of Camouflaging Skill? I guess it doesn't matter really. It's the first day... Or night, I guess, that we've searched for cattle. We've decided to hunt them at night since Ashura Cattle, like regular cows, are Diurnal." I think I saw some movement towards the Northwest!" Anna interrupted my thoughts with great news. I turned around and gave some hand signals to Ruby, who did the same to the people behind her, who did the same to the ones behind them, so on and so forth.

Before long, our entire group made adjustments and began to head Northwest. The group that was with us were strong Demons with great stamina. They would be needed for what I had planned. It's been a week since I visited Warrick. In that time, we built a decent, large-sized barn to keep the cattle in. It was reenforced with Magic from the Nature Goddess. Apparently, this is good for keeping the wood strong and warding against any predators.

I was glad that we had a surefire way to keep the cattle safe so they could relax. With that done, all we really needed were the cattle. I wanted 50 and I hoped we could get a good amount of them tonight. I continued riding Northwest as I listened to Anna's instructions. In time, we found what she saw. It just wasn't what we were looking for." A squirrel?"" It's a Skull-Eating Squirrel, They're a C-Class beast. strong jaws and teeth, but not much else." Ruby explained what it was.

I looked at Anna to see what she wants to do next." Anna, do you just want to call it here? We can try again tomorrow night?" Anna looked at me with a determined expression on her face and began to answer me." Let me try 1 more time!" She gave me her answer and she looked for my approval. I nodded and let her do as she wished. Before long, the eyes on her face were closed and the eyes on her body had opened and began looking all around.

Once she had found what she was looking for, her eyes closed, and she reopened the ones on her face." I think I found them this time! Around 15 animals! All sleeping on the ground! Directly East!"" Sounds good! let's go!" With that, we climbed back up on our horses and started heading East. In about an hour, we stumbled on them. I turned to Ruby, and she nodded as she looked at the 15 animals on the floor, currently sleeping. We then started to enact the plan.

Under the cover of night, 20 Demons surrounded the cattle that were sleeping peacefully. I then looked at Anna and waited for her begin." Binding Vines" She whispered her words next to me. A beam of green mana shot forth from her hands and started to cover the cattle like a web made by a spider. Each of the 20 Demons had a vine in their hands. The feeling of something so heavy and restrictive couldn't be ignored though and the cattle woke up with vigor.

"MOOOO!!!!" Their cries were loud. But the voices in my head spoke a tad bit louder to me." Death? What are they talking about? Oh wait.... Matthew! What are you doing!"" Yeah! Instead of worrying those poor girls, you could've called us to talk to them!" Unauthorized duplication: this tale has been taken without consent. Report sightings. Rex and Hank spoke to me. Using the context clues, it seems there was an easier way to do this." You both can speak to them?"" Yeah!" They both answered in unison."

We're animals after all! Sure, my Avian is a bit rusty, but Hank has helped me practice during our down time."" Just don't ask me to talk to snakes. Bad vibes from them, always." Rex and Hank answered me again. I figured this should be easier. Apparently, all of the cattle were girls. That helps for producing and gathering milk." I'm going to Summon Rex now."" Waiting on you, Matthew!" A burst of grey light came from beside me and a giant wolf appeared." MOOOOO!!!!!" Oh shit! He's an apex predator!"" Quick, Rex!

Tell them we come in peace!"" Already on it, Boss!" Rex began to make different noises and the cattle began to respond. When the noises have calmed down, I waited for Rex to fill me in. Rex looked at me sadly." They don't believe I won't hurt them. They think I'm going to eat the kids first. I only eat fish for crying out loud!" Seems Rex's confidence is shaken..." Rex, can you tell them I want to have a conversation with the leader?" Rex looked at me while big tears were hanging from his eyes." Sure, Boss...."

Poor guy. I should see what kind of seafood we have saved up for him. The noises began again. They died down and he began to speak." The leader is the grey fur with black spots to the left over there...."" Okay, follow me." We walked over to the cow that Rex said was the leader. I look at the Demon who was holding the vine for this section." Let it go so she can stand up." Understood, Lord Drake." He did as I asked, and the cow rose to her feet." Rex, start translating for me." Rex nodded sadly.

I then looked the scared cow in the eyes and began to apologize first." I want to apologize for doing this. I didn't think being able to speak would work. What Rex, my Friend here, who doesn't eat beef, said about not wanting to hurt you is true. In fact, if there're any injured cows or calves that are hurt, I'll heal them here and now." Rex repeated what I said." MOOOO!?" That sounded like a question. Rex spoke after the cow finished speaking." She has 2 injured calves in the middle.

Their legs were bitten by some big lizard."" Tell her to describe them. I'll have them moved here and I'll heal them." After Rex explained, he told me that it was the solid-brown calf and the solid-white calf. I had the Demons bring them to me and I used Holy Heal." MOOOO!!!" The calves were both extremely happy and were nuzzling up to the grey cow." Rex, repeat after me." Rex readied himself to translate." I'd like to offer you a deal. I live in a Demon settlement protected by walls to keep predators out.

We'll feed and care for you, and you'll have land to graze. In return, we want your milk." After Rex finished translating, the cow made another loud moo." MOOOO!!" Rex turned to me and began to speak." Why our milk? Won't it poison you?" Rex readied himself to translate my next word." Usually, if you drink it raw, like a calf, yes, Humans and Demons get sick. But I'm not from around here. I know how to turn your milk into something we can eat."" MOOOO!" After Rex translated, the Cow mooed again."

How can we trust you won't eat us?"" There are meat eaters in Paradise. However, you're seen as walking venom. I was looked at as crazy for wanting to make your milk into food. I can promise that I'll make consumption of Ashura Cattle a crime punishable by death if you'd like?"" MOOOO!"" Are you sure you won't abandon us, even if your plans don't work?" Rex translated the cow's words. I shrugged my shoulders." Even if it doesn't work, I think I can care for 15 cows no issues.

I'm in a pretty powerful position in this Country."" MOOOO!" I looked at Rex." She's giving a prayer to her God that it's the right decision." MOOOOO!" Rex began to translate." Please treat us kindly." With that, I told the Demons to let go of the vines and they disappeared with Anna's command. I then opened a giant Portal for everyone to walk into. At first, I thought the Demons would need to carry the cows. But now they walked through willingly into the giant barn that was made for them.

After getting the horses out and back into the stable, I began to explain how we were going to do everything. Once I was sure the cows understood, I readied myself to return. But... tug... I did turn to leave... Only to feel a tug at my back. The 2 calves I healed were biting my shirt and holding me back. I looked at Rex." I don't know, they're not speaking?"" MOOOOOO!!!" The grey cow mooed very loudly. Somehow, I think I know what she said to the calves." Relax, I'm not angry.

If it's something they need, please let me know, I want you guys to enjoy being here." Rex translated for me." They... Want you to play with them..." CHILL! At Rex's words, I felt a chill down my spine as my hands were tangled in 2 sets of arms." Oh, Rex. Please do inform these children that OUR Husband has some business to attend to back home. If they wish to play with him, they can play tomorrow when OUR Husband has time. Because OUR HUSBAND is a busy man.""

Indeed, Rex, please do stress that OUR HUSBAND, is needed at home now." For around 30 minutes... My Wives argued with 2 calves about my time allotment, as their mother seemed to be shaking in fear. Eventually, with the intensity of the arguments increasing, I was let go. I tried to calm the mother as best I could by petting her until the argument settled. This was a bad move, as apparently, the look the mother had for me had changed.

Or at least, that's what my Wives said as they dragged me out of the barn without looking back. I waved away from the 3 sad looking cow faces as I was dragged further and further into the night.
