It's been a week and a half since we let the Humans stay. Surprisingly, there hasn't been much of an issue with either the combat group or the Craftsmen group. It's probably down to the approach both groups are taking. They're being super considerate and polite to each other. Which isn't bad, but it shows they're all too afraid to really communicate. The only exception being Wendy and Emily bonding somewhat with Ruby. I'm sitting in my office watching the town right now.
It is bustling with everyone running around, but again, everyone seems to be on their best behavior." Well, what did you expect, Little One? It's only been a week. It's going to take time or a life-threatening event to forge the bonds you want." Julia spoke to me through our Link after hearing my thoughts. Even though I haven't been able to spend much time with Julia, Scarlet or my Contracted Spirits because I've been working so much.
Though, when I find some time in-between it all, I can usually talk with them for about 10 minutes or so at a time. Especially after finishing the paperwork that comes with running a Territory, usually, once I'm done that, I can relax and have a conversation with them like now." Ms. Julia is correct, John, you're a Lord who seeks to create a place where everyone and anyone can come and have the freedom to do business with whomever they please.
While this might be commonplace in the Country you grew up in, it's a radical idea here, you need to give it time and to make sure nothing untoward happens to the citizens." Lily offers her 2 cents as well." I guess I'm trying to be more of a social engineer and less of a Lord. I guess I will just have to wait it out."" It'll take time for any proposal and plan to start taking effect. It took weeks to get the first farm off of the ground, right? Trust in the process. Good people make good decisions, John."
Gil spoke as well." Why not practice sword swings to work off some of the stress from worrying about everything?" Scarlet offered some advice as well." Why not go for a hike? Learn the land towards the West and South next?" Rex offered another way to blow off some steam." Why not take the 2 misses out for a flight on me? I'm sure you guys would like some time alone, right? I can drop you guys off on a mountain top to the East and you 3 can have a few hours to yourselves." Hank offered another idea.
As much as I'd like to take that offer, the town needs us here just in case of anything happening." Even though it needs the 3 of you, you shouldn't forget that all 3 of you also have needs!" Paula also offered her opinion after listening in to my thoughts. I was happy for her. It seemed like it was yesterday when she couldn't voice what she wanted to say. I'm glad she's grown more outspoken. Regardless, I knew what responsibilities I had to do before everything else." I'll try to relax as is.
This place still needs hands-on supervision. Thank you all for the help and advice. I hope you guys won't mind if I rely on you all a bit more moving forward?" Of course!" All 7 of them answered in unison. I was going to get up and begin my inspection of the town for the day. I've taken to doing this at noon to see how everything is going. I decided to do this as I started fixing the walls and roads around Paradise with Gil's help.
However, from this, people seem to think of it more as I'm keeping an eye out for anyone I may have to execute. The only people who don't have that view are the Settlers and my hunting partners. It's a weird feeling... Having people think if they make one wrong move around me, I'd end their lives. Regardless, I had to do it. I got up and began to walk through the town." Good afternoon, Lord Drake!" The Humans greet me the same way as always.
I watch over the Craftsmen for a few minutes as they again, marvel at Gil putting up a new wall next to their teaching area. Anna, who had the eyes on her face closed, still waved her hand at me to say "Hello" in secret. She was hard at work watching everyone. From what I can see, the Demons are learning well, but that feeling like the situation is unnatural still persists. Maybe throwing a party at the end of the 3 weeks might work?
While I tried to think of something to bring them together, I continued on with placing roads in the city. I've been able to renovate around 20% of the wall and a quarter of all of the roads in Paradise these past 2 weeks. It's rough work, renovating with Gil and then squeezing the rest of my mana out with Lily when we farm. On the bright side the 2nd farm is almost complete. 2 more treatments and then we can find the next batch of land to make a farm on. For hunting, I haven't been able to head out.
After my Wives, along with Ruby, Rodrick and even Emily, who was there in my office at the time, argued it'd be too dangerous with whatever kind of Elves may be out there watching us. So, instead, we sent out hunting parties to carry out the need to grab game. They've done a good job. Love what you're reading? They were practicing their technique with swords, maces and spears under the eyes of Demon instructors. Some seem to have some promise. I noticed something different about today, however. I was surprised to see it." Ruby... Are Emily and Wendy practicing to?" Ruby nodded her head and began to answer my question." It appears they don't just want to be protected. I liked the fire in their eyes! Wendy seems to have some promise with duel-wielding daggers. It's awkward, but... Well, keep it between us."
Ruby lowered herself by bending her knees to reach my ears." Emily, she seems to not be talented at Martial matters at all. I currently have her trying out a few different things, but it seems that she's too.... How to put it....
"Clumsy" for anything. I think would be it?" I took in Ruby's words and whispered my own." What has she been doing since arriving here? I haven't seen her since I healed all the Humans the other day."" She's been moving around and watching both of the groups when she can each day. Besides that, I think she helps with the cooking for the Humans. If only there were a way to get the Demons and Humans to cut loose and relax a little. Tension still seems to be an issue these past few days."
Since food is a bit scarce still, the Humans decided to only consume the food they've brought with them. As in the Gators they processed before the Elves showed up. But that last bit... What could we do? Tension and food? Food... Food..." Ah, just what might you be saying to need to whisper about it with My Husband, Ruby?"" Lady Sarah! Nothing at all! I'd happily tell you!" While Sarah and Ruby talked about Emily, I couldn't help but let out a stray thought from my mouth." Maybe a banquet might help?....""
We're having a banquet!?" I was startled by the loud question that was shouted from 2 voices from my side. I turned to see the little brown-eyed girl Wendy, with 2 daggers in sheaths at her waist. I also saw Ellie with her, who also had daggers at her waist. Seems she was the instructor for Wendy? Next to them was Emily, who needed better workout clothes, her big chest was highly distracting with the current tight shirt and girder combo she seems to be using.
I looked at them, then to Sarah and Ruby, who seemed surprised, like she was just caught gossiping about the Humans. Then I realized that all of the Human students and Demon instructors also stopped doing what they were doing and were looking at me. At a loss for words, Emily was the first to speak." Did you say we're going to have a banquet, Lord Matthew!?" Why are they so loud? I looked around and realized I couldn't handle the pressure." I... I thought it'd be nice to have a banquet the day before you guys left.
So... You all could leave well-rested and well-fed..."" That sounds like a great idea!" Emily seemed to like the idea." That sounds great! The Cooks, Carpenters and Smiths and many other Jobs can all practice what they've learned, as a final test!" Wendy spoke loudly again." I... I didn't think that far ahead, Wendy."" You mean you don't want to see what everyone can do?"" That seems like such a great idea though!"
At Wendy and Ellie's words and somewhat tearful looking eyes, I could feel everyone's eyes piercing me with their gazes and demanding I don't make them cry. Wait... Why would they be crying? What ever... I give up." Fine, we can do all of that. Why not? I'll just have to draw up the requests to each place." The pressure from the crowd wore away and I heard whispering to my side." It worked, Ellie! You were right!"" Of course it would work! Lady Sarah and Anna came up with the plan with Ms.
Emily, it was bound to work, we just needed to keep an eye on, Lord Matthew." I looked at Sarah and she smiled at me and winked. Emily looked away from me with an embarrassed look on her face. I.... I've been used as a pawn in a plan! I look around at everyone! Even Ruby was in on it! She's looking away from me bashfully! I can't feel it, but I know Anna is looking at me as well! For a brief moment, I felt dumb for not figuring it out. It doesn't matter anyways.
Any way to get the Humans and Demons to come closer together would be a great help regardless. With those thoughts in my head, I continued about my work as the day passed. The sun was still beaming in the sky as I finished my quota for the day. I'm sitting at around 50% of my mana now. I decided to return to my office to rest somewhat.
