Chương 51: A fun wedding

With Pef Tian's eyes, this wedding was a grand affair, a show of force and a gathering of powerful people with dubious agendas. I mean, he wasn't wrong, the farm boy... but with Tian's eyes... this was merely a reunion of reject disciples who didn't even qualify to enter a sect. Perhaps Quinhue and Fenghue had a chance to enter a sect, with more training and much better Artifacts. Zhen would qualify as well, again after more training and better equipment.
However, the big sects only selected those Nascent Souls guaranteed to ascend into Soul Transformation. The rest of this gathering... was doomed to wither and die in Tian's expert eyes. Most of them didn't even reach mid-levels in Nascent Soul, or had reached the realm so late that their path was now closed. Talent played a big role, but sometimes wealth and the guidance of a strong expert helped too. Not to mention providence, finding a cave inheritance, or a rare spirit fruit...
In that regard, my wives were the ones with providence, because they had me, both as an expert in cultivation, and as a finder for rare stuff. As for talent... Jin's insight with Formations was the only one which stood out for now. Not even Master Wushang had much luck reaching Tier 5 in Formations, since that too required Dao's recognition for inventing new arrays. With enough time and resources, Qin Lin may one day become an Alchemist, but why waste time in Foundation Realm?
The early years were better spent training your mindset and forming your Golden Core. After that, just like me, Lin could make Tier 3 pills to strengthen her soul. Should I train Quinhue and Zhen as Alchemists? I checked my storage ring. Barely 2 million spirit stones left from the initial 3 millions pile I found in the Yang ring. It wasn't enough to train a single more Alchemist... not properly. I did spend a lot, buying rare Core herbs for my practice. Being poor sucked balls.
And on that note, I glanced at my pretty wife in her red dress.
"Zhen my love. Do you like your wedding?" I asked in a kind voice. Her eyes flashed over the gathered Venerables, sitting at full tables with drinks and food.
"Not a single duel. Nobody was poisoned to death yet. These people don't know how to have fun..." she complained in mild outrage, while the Venerables quickly checked their drinks for said poison. Urged by some Ancestor, a middle-aged man who thought he was a Young Master jumped on the central stage.
"As Venerable Chen says, a wedding would be boring without a duel. If the famous Pef Tian is not too scared to try." Was that an insult? I scratched my head.
"Duels are fun for the rest of people. But for me... I need a reward. What can you bet on this duel?" I answered in a bored voice, and my wife smiled at me with admiration.
"If I may, hero Pef Tian... would a Tier 4 fruit be a worthy reward? But the duel must be to the death." a creepy old guy in red robes offered while a Silverskin Tomato appeared on a silver plate. Nothing too valuable, but I could use some stretching.
"Of course. I really need that for my future ascension, Venerable! Please don't be too upset when your descendant is dead." I agreed at once, and jumped on the stage. The man was also a Peak Core Realm, and possibly trained well by his Ancestor.
"And what do I get should you die, Hero Pef Tian? Perhaps this Ren Zhan can console the widow..." the man asked with a shameless voice and a leering glance at my wife. Royal Road is the home of this novel. Visit there to read the original and support the author. Well, if you think Zhen would not feed your heart to her pet scorpion... you're welcome to try. Anyway, free fruit!
"May the best man win!" I allowed with a polite voice, then flicked an iron nail at his forehead. He barely managed to dodge, but I was already a meter away, and slicing with my Core Sword. Chop, chop... grab the eyes and storage bag... and... free new sword too! With a come over here grab, the fruit floated in my hand and vanished.
"Many thanks Venerable. Your gift is quite precious. Too bad young Ren had eyes, but didn't see Mount Tai." I said politely, then kicked the body towards his table.
"..." with a deadly glare, the man held his dead descendant in the air, then stored the body away, likely for funeral or bloodline refinement.
"I will await your ascension eagerly, Pef Tian. Frozen Master, weddings and funerals are like Heaven and Earth. I must depart for now." the Venerable spoke with hidden hate, and flew out. I looked around, as the remaining Venerables became a bit wary.
"Anyone else has a descendant they must be rid off? This Pef Tian is willing to help, for a worthy prize." I said with Pef's scummy voice. Fenghue laughed in surprise, then patted her veil.
"No offense meant, Venerables. This young hero is just too funny..." Another old man pushed a young girl forward.
"If the famous hero is interested, our Peng clan has a young woman also looking for a husband. And while our Peng descendant is not yet in Core Realm, her calligraphy and flute skills are impressive..." the man proposed in a different trap. I scratched my head.
"In principle, I am not opposed, Venerable. This descendant you want to be rid off is quite decent. Haven't heard what prize you offer though." I said like a silly farm boy. I did ask if they had a descendant they wanted to be rid off. The man grit his teeth, realizing he's fallen into his own trap. He still had to pay to get rid off the girl. He took out a superb sword, with a thin row of glowing runes. A Tier 4 sword! Excellent. Holding both my arms out, I grabbed the loot, and stored the sword.
"What is your pretty name?" I asked the woman. Did she know singing the flute meant sucking dick in a polite setting?
"Lina Peng... my hero." the girl stammered while blushing. Well, that won't do. Same name in my harem? Especially when it was dark? It could lead to confusions. This was not a sitcom, like Pef said.
"Don't worry, you're safe in my care, Lina. Looking for a husband is difficult, so you have come to the right man. You just need some training and when you're ready, I will find you a good husband, just like your Ancestor wanted me to. Maybe I will even keep you for myself. Come, sit with me..." I offered gallantly, and lead the woman to sit beside Zhen. Zhen eyes glinted with amusement, while a certain ice fairy struggled to keep her giggles silent.
An angry growl emerged from the scammed Venerable Peng, who bowed to the Frozen Master and flew off.
"Pef Tian! You have stolen our most prized possession! Return..." another Venerable stood up, and by the tone it was Venerable Xing of the Blue Lotus. I pointed a finger, and Na Gong appeared in front of the accusing man.
"Venerable Xing. You shameless old man! How dare you call me your possession! It was not enough to mind rape me for a century? Now you dare come to ask my husband to return me? Let me see how strong you are, now that your mind control isn't working on me anymore!" Nana yelled and pummeled the man away, taking the fight outside, and beyond the sect's formations. I sighed and opened my arms.
"Nana is quite upset with her old Lotus Master. Don't worry, she won't kill him, just take out some frustration. Well... I hope she won't kill the Venerable. He looks rather old and fragile... while Na Gong just ascended as a fresh Nascent Soul." I commented with a careless voice.
"Now this wedding is getting a bit better, Pef Tian! But I still haven't seen someone get poisoned..." Zhen said with a velvet voice, and the guests froze with drinks in hand.
"Any more gifts, honored guests? Poisoned gifts are fine too, like my dear wife says..." I asked with a sly voice towards the wedding guests. Silence filled the main Frozen Palace, as people tried to make sense what I meant. I could hear Quinhue sigh under her veil, when another fairy arrived on the Frozen side, Minghue.
"Congratulations to the wife and groom! I don't bring gifts, only my presence." Minghue spoke with a regal voice, and Zhen tensed beside me. Uh. I wished I had Nascent Soul senses now...
