"I do not care how we look!" Elma complained. Her blush reached all the way to her ears.
"He is smiling at her! He looks so happy! He never smiles at me like that! He only smiles at me when I bring him chocolate cake!"
"Keep your voice down!" Naomi scolded. She shoved Elma's shoulder gently.
"They are going to hear us!" Ken and Sayma stopped walking. They reached a small outdoor café. There were several small metal tables on the patio. The tables sat under large white umbrellas. Ken walked up to a table. He did not immediately sit down. He grabbed the back of the metal chair. He pulled the chair out smoothly. He waited for Sayma. Sayma smiled her polite, warm smile. She sat down gracefully in the chair. Ken gently pushed the chair back in for her.
Then, he slouched his shoulders, walked to the other side of the table, and flopped lazily into his own seat. He set his large bag of potato chips on the table. In the bushes, the three girls completely lost their minds.
"He pulled out her chair!" Naomi shrieked in a very harsh, strained whisper. She grabbed her own red hair in absolute agony.
"He actually pulled her chair out! He never does that for me! I always have to pull my own chair! This is absolute torture!" Elma covered her face with her hands. She let out a muffled groan of pure misery.
"He is being a gentleman! He is a messy slacker, but he is being a perfect gentleman for her! My heart cannot take this! I want to throw a rock at the table!" Ira snapped another branch entirely in half. She stared blankly at the couple.
"The display of chivalry is highly effective. My internal annoyance levels have reached maximum capacity." Ken reached into his paper bag. He pulled out a large, greasy potato chip. He held it across the table. He offered it directly to Sayma. Sayma laughed softly. She leaned forward. She opened her mouth and took a small bite of the chip directly from his hand. It was a flawless, undeniably romantic gesture. Sayma played the role of the loving girlfriend perfectly.
Ken just looked completely thrilled to be sharing his favorite snack. They looked incredibly happy together. The three spies in the bushes watched the scene unfold. Their competitive hearts twisted painfully inside their chests. Naomi closed her eyes. She rested her forehead against the dirt.
"I hate this fake date. I hate it so much. I want to go home." Elma nodded fiercely. Her blue eyes burned with intense rivalry.
"We must increase our own efforts. Tomorrow, I will buy him the largest pastry in the entire capital city. I will completely overwhelm her cheap potato chips." Ira nodded once in absolute agreement. She stared intensely through the green leaves.
"I will purchase more sea-salt chocolate. I will reclaim my statistical advantage." Help support creative writers by finding and reading their stories on the original site. The strict mother had finally left the scene. She was totally convinced the romance was true and beautiful. The political crisis was completely solved. The arranged marriage was canceled forever. But the lighthearted, romantic comedy was far from over. Ken sat at the café table. He chewed his potato chips loudly. He slouched his shoulders.
He felt incredibly relaxed. He enjoyed the sunny afternoon. He had absolutely no idea that three highly lethal, elite female warriors were currently hiding in the dirt just twenty feet away. He did not know they were aggressively stalking his every single move. He did not know his simple, lazy actions were fueling a fierce, burning romantic war over his heart. Ken just took another sip of his drink and smiled. He thought it was a very nice, very peaceful day in the Inner City.
Ken Eliot sat at the small outdoor café table. He felt incredibly relaxed. The afternoon sun shined warmly on his face. The sky was a clear, bright blue. He held a large bag of sour cream and onion potato chips in his lap. He reached into the bag. He pulled out a large, crispy chip. He tossed it casually into the air. He opened his mouth and caught it perfectly on his tongue. Crunch. Crunch. Crunch. He chewed loudly and happily. He let out a long, satisfied sigh.
"This is the absolute best day," Ken mumbled lazily to himself. He slouched his shoulders. He slumped deep into his metal chair. His white shirt hung completely untucked over his belt. His navy blue suit pants looked a little wrinkled. He did not care at all.
"No cardio. No training. Just me and my snacks. I could sit here forever." Sayma sat across the table from him. She wore a beautiful, elegant blue dress. She looked absolutely flawless. She held a delicate porcelain teacup in her hands. She took a slow, polite sip of her hot tea. She placed the cup gently back onto the saucer. She smiled a very warm, genuine smile.
"I am very glad you are enjoying the afternoon, Ken," Sayma said softly. She pushed her thick glasses up the bridge of her nose.
"You played your part perfectly today. My mother completely believed our fake romance story. You saved me from a terrible arranged marriage. I truly appreciate your help." Ken gave her a massive, goofy grin.
"It was super easy, Sayma. I just acted like myself. And you bought me a very large, delicious lunch. It is a total win for both of us. Do you want a potato chip? They are incredibly salty. They are fantastic." Sayma chuckled politely. She shook her head.
"No, thank you. You can eat the entire bag." Just twenty feet away, a row of large green bushes lined the clean sidewalk. The bushes were trimmed into perfect squares. They were meant for decoration. They were not meant for hiding. But three elite girls were currently crouching in the dirt behind the leaves. Naomi crouched low to the ground. Her bright red hair stuck out wildly through the green branches. She glared fiercely through the gaps in the leaves. She gripped the dirt tightly with her hands.
Her green eyes burned with intense, undeniable jealousy. Elma knelt right next to Naomi. The blonde servant wore her pristine white and gold uniform. Her spotless clothes were getting completely stained by the dark dirt. She did not care. Her face was flushed a vibrant, glowing pink. She stared at Ken and Sayma with a deep, frustrated scowl. Ira crouched on the other side of Elma. The water mage remained perfectly still. Her pale face showed zero emotion. She stared unblinkingly through the leaves.
She held a small twig in her hand. She snapped the twig into tiny pieces. Snap. Snap. Snap. She felt very annoyed.
"This is completely ridiculous," Naomi whispered fiercely. Her voice was full of competitive anger. She pointed a finger through the leaves.
"She is smiling at him. They are sharing a quiet moment. This is supposed to be a fake date. She is making it look way too real." Elma gritted her teeth. She pulled a stray leaf out of her blonde curls. She felt a massive spike of jealousy twisting in her chest.
