"You have absolutely zero proof of stolen blueprints!" the lawyer shouted aggressively. He pointed a sharp finger at Ken.
"You are just guessing! You are making up wild stories to frame my client!" Ken reached into his wrinkled suit pocket. He slowly pulled out a small, wrapped piece of strawberry candy. It was a candy Elma had given him the night before.
"Can I eat this?" Ken asked the judges. He held up the pink candy.
"My blood sugar is getting low. Arguing requires a lot of calories."
"No snacks in the witness box!" the Head Judge yelled. He hit his gavel loudly. Ken sighed dramatically. He put the candy back into his pocket. He looked at the angry lawyer. He did not look scared. He looked totally amused. The intense courtroom drama felt like a funny comedy routine to him.
"I am not making up stories," Ken stated casually.
"We literally found Dr. Carrion's final, encrypted letter. It was hidden behind a wall. Sayma decoded it perfectly. The letter specifically says Dr. Raven forced him to build a radiation bomb. Dr. Raven threatened to kill Dr. Carrion's family. That is not a guess. That is written ink."
"A fake letter!" the lawyer protested furiously.
"Anyone could have written that letter! It is a massive forgery!" Ken chuckled. It was a lazy, highly sarcastic laugh. He pointed at the lawyer's wrist.
"You know, your watch is very shiny," Ken noted randomly. He completely derailed the serious legal argument.
"It looks like it cost a million Bels. Dr. Raven pays you very well. But you are not doing a good job. You are sweating a lot. Are you nervous?" The lawyer wiped a drop of sweat from his forehead. His face turned bright red with pure embarrassment. The nobles in the gallery started whispering to each other. The elite crowd was absolutely shocked. A mere servant was openly mocking a famous, expensive lawyer.
"I am not nervous!" the lawyer shrieked. He lost his professional composure entirely.
"You are a disrespectful clown! You are dodging my questions!"
"I answered your question," Ken replied happily. He gave the angry man a goofy grin.
"Dr. Carrion built a bomb. Dr. Raven wanted the bomb. Dr. Carrion refused to hand it over. So, Dr. Raven ordered a spy named Anny to kill him. It is a very simple plot. A child could understand it. I am sorry you are struggling with the basic concept." Dr. Raven slammed his fist onto his desk. The loud sound echoed across the white marble room. The corrupt politician glared at Ken with pure, unfiltered hatred.
"Silence him!" Dr. Raven demanded loudly.
"This boy is making a mockery of the Imperial Court! He is insulting my honor!"
"I cannot insult something that does not exist," Ken mumbled lazily. He rubbed his ear.
"You guys are all incredibly loud. My ears are ringing. Does anyone have an aspirin?" This tale has been unlawfully obtained from Royal Road. If you discover it on Amazon, kindly report it. Naomi covered her mouth with both hands. She was trying incredibly hard not to laugh out loud. Her shoulders shook with amusement. She looked at Sayma. Sayma pushed her glasses up and smiled politely. Ken was absolutely destroying the defense. He was doing it without breaking a single sweat.
He just sat there and acted like a complete slacker. Elma watched from the gallery. She held her bag of lemon drops tightly. Her blue eyes sparkled. She thought Ken looked incredibly cool, even with his messy hair. Her blush deepened. She quickly looked down at her polished boots. The Head Judge pounded his gavel continuously. Thwack! Thwack! Thwack!
"Order! Order in the court!" the Head Judge bellowed. His face was purple with frustration.
"Mr. Eliot, you will answer the questions properly! You will stop making sarcastic remarks, or I will hold you in contempt!"
"I am entirely full of contempt already," Ken joked softly. He slouched even lower in the uncomfortable wooden chair. The trial was quickly turning into a total disaster for Dr. Raven. The lawyers could not trap the lazy boy. Ken's careless, unfazed nature was a perfect shield.
The lead lawyer took a deep breath. He tried to calm down. He smoothed his expensive gray suit jacket. He glared at Ken. He decided to try a completely different tactic. He wanted to prove the 13th Unit was lying about Anny.
"Let us talk about Anny," the lawyer said. His voice was strict.
"You claim Anny was a cold, calculating spy. You claim she ordered the assassination. But we have dozens of witnesses who say otherwise. Anny was a grieving, heartbroken girlfriend. She cried for days after Dr. Carrion died. She loved him deeply." Ken let out another loud, dramatic yawn. He stretched his legs out. He crossed his ankles.
"Anny was a terrible actress," Ken stated lazily.
"She cried without producing a single real tear. I watched her perform. It was a very bad show. She did not love him."
"You have no proof of her feelings!" the lawyer shouted triumphantly. He thought he finally trapped the boy.
"You cannot prove she was a spy!"
"Actually, I can," Ken replied smoothly. He did not look worried at all. He reached into his wrinkled pocket. He pulled out a small piece of paper. It was a list Sayma had compiled from the financial records. Ken waved the paper in the air.
"Anny lived in a massive, totally luxurious penthouse in the Diamond District," Ken explained. His voice sounded incredibly bored.
"The rent for that apartment is millions of Bels. Dr. Carrion did not buy that apartment for her. We checked his bank accounts. He was a scientist. He did not have that kind of cash." Ken pointed a lazy finger toward the public gallery. He pointed toward a specific row of seats high up in the back.
"But someone else had the cash," Ken announced casually.
"Someone very rich bought that apartment for her. And that same rich person bought her imported, premium chocolate truffles. I ate one of those truffles. They were fantastic. Only a corrupt politician can afford those snacks." The lawyer turned completely pale.
"What are you talking about?" Ken kept his finger pointed at the gallery. He aimed it directly at a large, wealthy man sitting in the shadows. The man wore a dark purple suit. He wore gold rings on every finger. It was Senator Norman.
"Senator Norman bought the apartment," Ken said. His voice echoed across the quiet courtroom.
"Senator Norman paid Anny to spy on Dr. Carrion. And Senator Norman funded Dr. Raven's toxic radiation project. It is a massive, highly connected circle of corrupt politicians. They all worked together to build the apocalyptic bomb." The entire courtroom erupted into absolute chaos. The nobles in the gallery gasped loudly. They whispered frantically to each other. Accusing a powerful Senator was a massive shock. Senator Norman sat perfectly still. He began to sweat profusely. His face turned bright red.
He knew the messy boy was telling the absolute truth. Dr. Raven completely lost his mind.
