The Origin Core pulsed. Once. Twice. With every pulse, reality itself trembled. Rayan stood before it with Siena, Kael, Caelum, Aster, Sophia, Archeon, and the remaining guardians. Behind them... The World Tree stretched across infinity. Ahead... The Dreamers descended. Their enormous forms blocked entire constellations. Kael looked upward.
"Those things are actually coming down here?" Caelum tightened his grip on Fimbul.
"Apparently." Kael sighed.
"I preferred when they were just eyes in the sky." Aster laughed.
"You're afraid."
"Terrified." Kael grinned.
"But I'm still here." Rayan looked at him. Something about that sentence felt familiar. He smiled.
"That's enough." Sophia stepped toward the Origin Core.
"Listen carefully." Everyone became silent.
"The Core isn't simply a source of energy." She placed her hand against its surface.
"It contains the first memory of creation." Rayan frowned.
"Memory?" Sophia nodded.
"Before gods."
"Before Astras."
"Before the World Tree."
"There was only the Origin Core."
"It remembers everything." Rayan stared at the glowing sphere.
"Then why do the Dreamers want it?" Sophia looked toward the descending entities.
"Because they were born from it." Silence. Kael's expression changed.
"The Dreamers..."
"Were created by the Core?"
"Yes." Sophia continued.
"They were the first beings capable of imagining possibilities."
"Every dream."
"Every fear."
"Every future."
"Every possible world."
"The Dreamers carried them."
"But eventually..."
"They began believing that imagining creation gave them the right to control it." Rayan understood.
"They became prisoners of their own purpose." Sophia nodded. The First Dreamer suddenly appeared before them. Unlike the others... It did not attack. It simply floated above the Origin Core.
"That's correct." Everyone prepared their weapons. Rayan stepped forward.
"You aren't going to fight?" The Dreamer looked at him.
"I have already fought."
"What do you mean?"
"I fought against myself." Its enormous crimson eye looked toward the others.
"They want control."
"I want understanding." A massive explosion shook the Core. The other Dreamers attacked. If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. Please report it. The First Dreamer turned toward them. For the first time... It stood between creation and its own kind.
"Go." Rayan looked at it.
"Why?"
"Because I cannot defeat them alone." The Dreamer lowered its gaze.
"But I can give you time." The First Dreamer expanded. Its body transformed into a colossal wall of crimson light. The attacking Dreamers collided with it. The entire Origin Realm shook. Sophia shouted.
"Now!" Everyone moved. Kael launched himself forward. Caelum followed. Aster's crimson threads wrapped around the group. Siena summoned an enormous golden lotus beneath them. The lotus became a bridge. Rayan stepped onto it. As they approached the Origin Core... Rayan suddenly heard a voice. A familiar voice. His own.
"If you're hearing this..." He stopped. Everyone looked at him.
"What is it?" Rayan touched his chest.
"I don't know." The voice continued.
"... then I've already forgotten everything." Rayan's eyes widened. A hidden memory. A message left by his former self.
"Don't try to recover your memories."
"Don't try to become who you were."
"Become someone new." Rayan stared at the Core. The message continued.
"Because the final enemy isn't the Dreamers." Silence.
"It's the belief that someone must become the strongest..."
"... to save everyone." The message disappeared. Rayan understood. The entire journey had been leading here. The Dharma Astra was never about becoming the strongest. The true purpose was to make sure no one person ever needed to be. He looked toward his companions.
"You don't need me to save you." Siena smiled.
"We know." Kael raised his sword.
"That's why we're here." Caelum nodded.
"Together." The group reached the Origin Core. Rayan placed his hand against it. The universe disappeared. Suddenly... He saw everything. The First Age. The birth of the Astra. The rise of humanity. The betrayal of the Celestial Court. The creation of the Hollows. The birth of the Dreamers. The World Tree. Every war. Every death. Every act of kindness. Every choice. Every possibility. Millions of futures appeared before him. Some ended in peace. Some ended in destruction. Some ended with Rayan becoming a god.
Some ended with humanity disappearing. But one future... Was different. Rayan couldn't see its ending. Because it hadn't been written. A single word appeared. CHOICE. Rayan smiled.
"I understand now." Behind him... The Origin Realm shattered. The other Dreamers had broken through. The First Dreamer was falling. Sophia shouted.
"Rayan!" He turned. The Dreamers raised their hands. The final attack was coming. Rayan looked at the Core. Then at his companions.
"Let's write..."
"... the ending together." The Origin Core suddenly opened. And something ancient awakened inside it. The Origin Core opened. A light older than existence poured into the realm. For a moment... There was no sound. No movement. No time. Then— BOOM. A wave of primordial energy exploded outward. The Dreamers were thrown backward. The World Tree bent beneath the force. Rayan remained standing. Inside the Core... He saw a child. A tiny child floating within endless golden light. The child opened its eyes.
They were the same golden eyes Rayan had once possessed. Rayan stared.
"Who are you?" The child smiled.
"The first choice." Rayan stepped closer.
"What does that mean?" The child pointed toward the endless darkness. Before Rayan appeared the beginning of creation. There had been nothing. No gods. No worlds. No laws. Only darkness. Then... Someone had imagined light. That single thought became the first star. Another thought became space. Another became time. Another became life. Every creation began with a choice. The child spoke again.
"The universe was never created by power."
"It was created by possibility." Rayan understood.
"The Dreamers..."
"They were the first to understand possibility."
"And then they tried to control it." The child nodded.
"They forgot that possibility has meaning only when others are free to choose." Behind Rayan... The Dreamers broke through the barrier. The First Dreamer was barely standing. Its crimson body was covered in cracks.
"Rayan!" Rayan turned. The First Dreamer looked toward the child. For the first time... It bowed.
"Origin." The child looked at it.
"You remember." The First Dreamer lowered its head.
"I remember why we were created." Another Dreamer roared.
"LIES!" Its massive hand descended toward the Core. Rayan moved. He didn't have the Dharma Astra. He didn't have the First Quill. He didn't even have his memories. But he had something else. Choice. Rayan stepped between the Core and the attack. Siena screamed.
"Rayan!" The attack struck. Golden light exploded across the realm. But Rayan remained standing. He looked at his empty hand. Then... A golden spark appeared. Not from the Core. From himself. Rayan stared at it.
"So..." He smiled.
"I still have a choice." The spark expanded. Across the universe... Every person carrying a fragment of Dharma felt it. The farmer. The soldier. The child. The king. The healer. The stranger. Everyone. They all felt the same thing. Not Rayan's command. Not an order. An invitation. Choose. One by one... Golden lights appeared across creation. The lights connected. Millions. Billions. Trillions. A network of Dharma spread across existence. The Dreamers tried to destroy it. But every time they broke one connection...
Ten more appeared. The First Dreamer smiled.
"They cannot control them." Rayan looked at the golden network.
"No." He finally understood.
"They don't need to." The Dreamers attacked together. Reality cracked. Stars vanished. Worlds trembled. But the people of creation stood. Not under one king. Not under one god. Not under one hero. Together. Kael unleashed his flames. Caelum froze the collapsing dimensions. Aster's threads connected the warriors. Siena's lotus expanded across the World Tree. Archeon raised his sword. The Seven Authors wrote new paths into existence. The Final Narrator refused to write an ending. And Rayan...
Walked toward the Origin Core. The child watched him.
"What will you choose?" Rayan looked toward the countless possibilities. He could become a god. He could erase the Dreamers. He could rewrite history. He could restore every person who had died. He could create a perfect world. But every option required one person to decide the future. Him. Rayan smiled.
"I choose none of them." The child tilted its head.
"Then what do you choose?" Rayan looked toward his companions.
"I choose a world where nobody gets to decide everything." The child smiled.
"Correct." The Origin Core began transforming. The golden light spread through every world. The Dreamers screamed. Their enormous bodies began dissolving. Not dying. Changing. Their darkness became stars. Their crimson eyes became suns. Their endless dreams became possibilities. The First Dreamer looked toward Rayan.
"Thank you." Rayan smiled.
"I don't remember you." The First Dreamer laughed softly.
"You don't need to." It dissolved into golden light. The other Dreamers followed. The final battle... Was ending. The World Tree became calm. The Origin Core stabilized. The endless cracks in reality closed. For the first time in an eternity... There was silence. Siena walked toward Rayan.
"Is it over?" Rayan looked toward the sunrise forming across the universe.
"I think..."
"... it has finally begun." She smiled. Kael dropped his sword.
"Does that mean we survived?" Caelum nodded.
"Apparently." Aster laughed. The Seven Authors lowered their weapons. Even Archeon smiled. Rayan looked toward the horizon. He still remembered very little. But somewhere inside his heart... A single memory remained. A boy who once believed he was worthless. A boy who became a prince. A prince who became a warrior. A warrior who became the Dharma Heir. And finally... A man who gave away his power. Rayan smiled.
"Maybe..."
"... I was never meant to be the strongest." Siena stood beside him.
"No." She took his hand.
"You were meant to show everyone..."
"... that they could become strong too." The sun rose. And for the first time... The world did not wait for a hero. It waited for its people. To be continue....
