When Rei first got his hands on Thor's physique he knew that he was incredibly strong. He had tried punching stones and they would easily break into pieces. He had tried to stab himself with normal force and that too had failed with bent knives. Laura looked at him with odd eyes when he did that. This guy was already powerful and was known to them. Did he have to break my knife to make a point? Of course Rei didn't know what she was thinking and even if he knew he wouldn't have cared.
Rei had been reigning himself in when it came to fighting others, scared that Danzo would get to know. Technically speaking he didn't fear anybody in Konoha. But Danzo was a different ball game. Izanagi could be countered, but a counter to that jutsu was impossible. Of course Rei didn't think he could go against Itachi. Let's not talk about his genjutsu, just the Amaterasu alone was a game changer. Raikage faced it and had to cut off his hand.
And he didn't think it would be that easy if he was ever caught by that black fire. One could joke that the black fire didn't kill anyone, but the damage was substantial. Now that he faced Baki, and used his physique for the first time, he knew where his strength lay. And the amazing thing was the physique would only get stronger in the future. Once his awakening happens after Ragnarok, baby it's game over. Hehe.. Rei walked over to the unconscious Baki and crouched beside him.
Killing him would be easy, but there was no point. The invasion was already underway and one less jonin wasn't going to change the outcome significantly. Besides, this guy was required too for Rei, but not at the moment. He had other plans for him.
"Let's make sure you stay out of trouble." Several sealing formulas spread from his fingertips and flowed across the ground like ink. The earth beneath Baki opened up and swallowed him whole while the fuinjutsu wrapped around his body and suppressed his chakra. Moments later the ground closed again as if nothing had happened.
"Enjoy your stay underground." Rei then jumped onto a huge branch of a tree and waited. He could go back to Konoha now, but that was not what he wanted to do. The village's loss wasn't his focus now. Hiruzen might be trying to be a good politician (or not?), at the end of the day the fact remained that he had let Danzo grow beyond what was acceptable. Danzo was one of the primary reasons that Akatsuki was formed.
One could argue that the organization and the influence of Zetsu would have plunged the world into chaos either way just like the previous times, but it didn't mean that Danzo was innocent in this chaos. He was the fuel that added to the wildfire already. The world had been in chaos for such a long time, and this guy still wanted more chaos? He had a vague theory that even the death of Sakumo Hatake was because of him. So he had no love for Danzo and someone like Hiruzen who couldn't control his old comrade.
Friendship and relationship could only take you so far. If Hiruzen survived today due to his butterfly then it's well and good, and he would return with sealed Baki, but if he didn't then he had a special gift for the instigator. Now coming to the Rasengan part. Was it that unbelievable to imagine that he self-taught this technique? This was the first jutsu that was clearly shown in the anime and the learning method of it, so of course Rei had learnt it.
Once he had enough chakra he had tried to master it and soon he was able to. This tale has been unlawfully obtained from Royal Road. If you discover it on Amazon, kindly report it. He learnt it without telling anyone and wanted to keep it that way, otherwise he wouldn't be able to explain it. He could explain non-existent jutsu like the variations of Chidori, but not the Rasengan. That was very exclusive.
He couldn't even give the excuse that he saw the Tailed Beast Ball (Biju Dama) like Minato did and learnt through that inspiration. Maybe if he allowed Naruto to transform into 4 or 5 tails, and then see him unleash that small Biju Dama. But that was a long time into the future and many things would change. Rei stood on the branch waiting for something and it didn't take long for the first set of drama to arrive. Three masked figures appeared on nearby branches. The ANBU. Or were they?
They looked around the clearing and immediately fell silent. There were broken tree trunks and signs of damage around. The earth was cratered in two locations, and there was a small hint of residual chakra. It was very faint but the ANBU picked up on it. One glance was enough to tell them that a serious battle had taken place here. Their eyes then landed on the sealing markings that still faintly remained on the forest floor before disappearing completely. The trio exchanged looks beneath their masks.
"So the report was true." One of them finally said.
"You really are capable of defeating an elite jonin." Rei just looked at them without a hint of acknowledgment.
"You captured him?"
"Buried him underground." Rei replied for the first time, but there was nothing but coldness in his voice. The three ANBU looked at each other again. A genin defeating a jonin was already absurd. A genin using fuinjutsu on top of that was even more absurd. But none of them asked questions.
"Congratulations on the victory." Another ANBU finally said.
"We'll recover the prisoner. And you need to come with us." The first ANBU said.
"Oh! Where?" Rei had a smirk on his face as he asked that.
"You don't need to know. There is an invasion going on and you need to help us safeguard some people." The other ANBU lied.
"I won't go with you... you guys can take him away. I have other priorities right now." Rei replied.
"You are just a genin. And a command from an ANBU or a jonin is to be followed." The first ANBU said, his voice seeming visibly annoyed that Rei had refused to go with them.
"Yes, technically speaking, I am supposed to. But I don't feel like it today so you guys can leave." Rei replied.
"Are you disobeying the command of an ANBU? Do you wish to be termed a traitor?" The ANBU roared now. The other two slowly started to get ready to rope in this kid.
"Oh! That's quite the big words coming from the ANBU..." Rei stretched the last word specifically and then finished it with, "ROOT." The moment the word "Root" left Rei's mouth, all three masked figures froze for a fraction of a second. It was small, almost invisible, but Rei saw it regardless and that alone was enough confirmation for him. A normal ANBU might have questioned how he knew such a thing, but these three didn't.
Their hands slowly moved toward their weapons while the atmosphere around the clearing became colder.
"You know too much." The leader finally said. Rei simply laughed.
"No. You people are just too obvious." The three exchanged glances beneath their masks. A genin knowing about Root was already unacceptable. A genin identifying them immediately after a brief conversation was even worse. Worse still was the fact that he seemed completely unconcerned by the situation. The leader slowly drew a kunai while the other two spread out to either side.
"Come with us."
"To Danzo?" Rei asked with a smile. That was apparently the final straw.
"Capture him." All three moved at once. What followed wasn't something any of them would forget for the rest of their lives. Golden chains suddenly erupted from behind Rei's back. Massive golden chains carrying enough force to tear through the air itself. The two Root operatives on the flanks didn't even manage to react before the chains pierced through their shoulders and abdomens and continued onward, embedding themselves into the trunks of two massive trees behind them.
Blood sprayed through the clearing as both men found themselves pinned several meters above the ground, their eyes wide with disbelief.
"Ahhh!"
"Ughh!" The leader barely managed to avoid suffering the same fate. He jumped backwards instinctively, only for another chain to twist midair like a living serpent and wrap around his entire body.
"What—" The chain tightened instantly. Around his torso, arms, legs and one arm too. The Root operative crashed into the ground and struggled with everything he had, only to realize the chain wasn't budging even slightly. Of course they couldn't. The Adamantine Chains' main point wasn't their strength. It was the fact that once someone was tied under the chains, they wouldn't be able to use their chakra. These chains weren't feared for no reason. They used to hold down Kurama for at least two generations.
