A faint beam of pale moonlight slipped through the window, briefly illuminating Sasuke's sleeping face before disappearing as though nothing had happened. Sasuke, who had been in coma all this time, suddenly opened his eyes. Meanwhile, Rei who was talking with Daniel suddenly felt a tingling sensation in his whole body. It was very minute and Rei didn't even pay any attention to this minute feeling that just washed across his body.
If he had noticed it deeply he would have felt that his body strength had increased by a bit and also that his mental resistance to illusions had gone up significantly. Especially when he was under moonlight. But all of this didn't matter to Rei as his senses had picked up a miracle. Sasuke was awake. Rei's expression changed immediately. Without another word, he disappeared from the porch and reappeared inside the guest room almost instantly.
Daniel and Laura exchanged confused glances before hurrying after him, only to stop at the doorway in complete disbelief. Sasuke was no longer lying motionless with closed eyes. He had already pushed himself into a seated position, quietly looking toward the window as though he had merely awakened from an ordinary night's sleep.
"... Sasuke?" Rei asked cautiously. The Uchiha slowly turned his head. His eyes looked perfectly clear. There wasn't the slightest hint of confusion, agony or the empty expression normally associated with someone awakening from a mental collapse. Instead he looked calm. It was as if the previous coma had never happened.
"You..." Rei frowned deeply.
"How are you awake?" Sasuke looked down at his own hands before slowly clenching and unclenching them several times. His mind felt astonishingly clear, as though the endless nightmare that had trapped him only moments ago had never existed.
"... I'm fine." Those two simple words immediately made Rei's eyebrows knit together.
"That shouldn't be possible." Rei thought to himself.
"Tsukuyomi directly attacks the mind. Even if your body recovered because of Thor's physique, your consciousness should still be trapped until she arrives. Has my influence changed the future so much." He stepped closer and carefully examined Sasuke through his sensory abilities. His chakra network remained perfectly stable, his heartbeat was normal and even his breathing carried none of the irregularities expected from someone who had just escaped a mental prison.
"Thor's physique." Rei thought.
"We've only focused on its physical strength, healing factor and durability until now. But Thor himself survived things that should have destroyed both body and mind. If that physique can endure the energy of a neutron star and recover afterward, then perhaps its regenerative abilities extend to neurological damage as well. Tsukuyomi attacks the mind, but the brain is still an organ. Maybe his recovery was simply accelerated beyond anything I've seen before."
Sasuke slowly stood up from the bed before walking toward the large window overlooking the ranch. The moon had already begun climbing into the evening sky, its pale light silently spilling across the fields beyond.
"... I'd like to be alone for a while." Rei studied him for another moment before finally nodding.
"... Alright." Without saying anything further, Rei gently ushered Daniel and Laura out before quietly closing the door behind them. He chose to believe his own explanation, yet something inside him still felt strangely unsettled. Left alone, Sasuke rested one hand against the cool glass and silently stared at the moon hanging high above. Somehow, its silver light felt... familiar. Along with it came an awareness he had never possessed before.
Something beyond that he had ever believed was possible and waiting to be explored. Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions. Nearly forty minutes later, the sound of tires crunching over gravel echoed outside the ranch. Zabuza stepped through the front door first, followed by a middle-aged neurologist carrying a medical bag with noticeably trembling hands.
The poor man had spent the entire drive wondering why a heavily armed stranger had insisted he accompany him immediately while repeatedly assuring him that no harm would come to him as long as he did his job and forgot everything afterward. Normally he would have already phoned the cops, but the way he showed up by hanging upside down with only his feet attached to the ceiling and the fact that the person with a simple wave of his hand took out his mobile phone. This made him fear for his life.
When the man introduced that he was the Demon of New York, his eyes went wide. His whole life flashed in front of his eyes as he couldn't believe he was watching the mythical being. All this time, there had been rumors about his existence. But one thing was certain, the streets of New York had never been more safer. Gun violence was in an all time low and people had even started to mock the police and call for defund.
Not because they weren't doing their jobs, but because their workload had significantly went down over the past year. The mayor, of course, spoke of how good his administration was and because of that the people of New York was at peace. Classic politician. But nobody could deny that New York had suddenly become a much safer place. All because of this man who was some sort of legend. As soon as the doctor was ushered in, he saw a single patient on a bed.
Swallowing nervously, he adjusted his glasses before forcing himself into professional mode and approached Kakashi. Zabuza meanwhile had just reached and was surprised to see Sasuke was up and running.
"What happened to him?" Zabuza asked.
"Didn't you say that his lights were out cold?"
"He recovered few minutes ago. Don't ask me why, even I am not sure." Rei replied.
"Hmmm." Meanwhile for nearly twenty minutes he performed every examination available to him. He checked pupil responses, reflexes, heartbeat, breathing, brain activity with the portable equipment he had brought, and even carefully examined the old scar surrounding Kakashi's left eye. The longer he examined him, the deeper the frown on his face became. Finally, he slowly lowered his stethoscope and let out a defeated sigh.
"... His body is remarkably healthy," the doctor admitted honestly.
"Physically, I can find almost nothing wrong with him. His organs are functioning normally, blood circulation is excellent, and there are no signs of neurological deterioration that I would normally associate with a prolonged coma. Whatever caused this... it isn't something modern medicine understands. I'm sorry, but I have absolutely no idea how to wake him." Rei silently accepted the answer before motioning toward Sasuke.
The doctor repeated the same careful examination, though this time his expression gradually shifted from confusion to disbelief. He checked the teenager's reflexes twice, then repeated several neurological tests before finally looking back at Rei with complete bewilderment. Sasuke wanted to protest of course, but Rei wasn't having it and forced him to go through the process.
"From every preliminary examination I can perform, he appears perfectly healthy. His brain activity is normal, his reflexes are responsive, and there are no obvious signs of trauma, though his body is strangely very strong. If someone hadn't told me he was in a coma, I would've said he was joking. As far as I can tell... there's nothing medically wrong with him. So all I can recommend some bed rest." The doctor said.
Daniel quietly stepped forward after the doctor finished speaking, noticing that the poor man's hands were still trembling despite completing the examination. Offering an apologetic smile, he reached into a nearby drawer, took out a thick envelope already prepared for emergencies and gently placed it into the doctor's hands before the man could refuse.
"I know tonight has been... overwhelming." Daniel said sincerely.
"Mr. Momchi has a rather unconventional way of asking for favors, and I'm truly sorry if he frightened you. Please accept this as compensation for your time, your professionalism and any emotional distress you experienced. Most importantly, everything you've seen here must remain confidential. We don't intend to threaten you, but discretion is something we value very highly." The doctor hesitated before cautiously opening the envelope. The amount inside made his eyes widen behind his glasses.
It was more money than he usually earned after several months of work. Looking around the room one last time, he slowly nodded before carefully placing the envelope into his medical bag.
"... Understood." He swallowed hard before forcing a weak smile.
"As far as I'm concerned... I never left my house tonight." Daniel escorted the doctor outside personally, making sure he felt considerably more at ease than when he had first arrived. Sasuke was left alone while the rest came out of the rooms and into the living room. Zabuza was provided with a glass of juice which he was drinking quite calmly. He was in a good mood, because after all Kakashi was in the bed and got his ass handed to him by Sharingan itself. The justice couldn't be more poetic, or so he felt.
He then looked at Rei and finally opened the mouth.
"Recently, I kept hearing about a group that's been making noise around the city."
