Chương 76: Chapter 75 – Deadly Connections

Alex turned to make sure Thai was out of earshot. He leaned forward, elbows on his knees, hands clasped tight, his index fingers braced under his chin.

"So, they have believed for five years that the prophecy child is dead, and to the best of our knowledge never suspected anything else. If this Armand guy has a personal grudge against Celestia… he would be the best person to approach to track her down."

"But why hurt Thai?" Sheera asked, throwing her hands up.

"Why not just go after Celestia directly? This makes no sense!"

"What better way to hurt her?" Roxie asked.

"If their plan had been successful, Thai would have gotten sick. With them knowing how close she is to Celestia, that would have been horrible for her to watch. It would also serve a dual purpose. It would have exposed Celestia and those that she loved to a deadly virus. They would essentially be not only wiping her out but everyone she loved," Roxie said, raising her eyebrows.

"I know it's diabolical, but that is genius if you think about it." Regina nodded her head.

"There is no cure in this realm, so anyone infected could spark another epidemic, making this realm ripe for the picking. You must remember, Mordak has the cure and a vaccine. He could infect everyone here. Then he could just walk in, set up shop and take right over. There would be no risk to himself… or his people," Elena said.

"Yeah, but I'm just not sure how someone over there could connect Celestia to Thai?" Roxie asked.

"Especially when no one knows Thai exists. That seems a little too flimsy of a reason."

"You're right, on the surface Rox. Think about it a little more. Celestia and Seraphina come visit a lot more frequently than any of us do," Regina said, looking at Elena and Alex.

"When we come, it has to be stealthy. The four of us walking down Main Street, would not exactly go unnoticed, but Seraphina and Celestia? They have been here before. This realm knows what fairies are, but I'd bet you none of them have seen a full-on goblin before. Panic would ensue!" She laughed.

"Get your pitchforks, folks, we got some monsters to catch. I mean strategically it is brilliant. All it would take is Celestia being out and about with Thai, playing or simply walking down the street, for the connection to be made. Not because of who Thai is, because as far as they are concerned, Thai is Sheera and Rowan's daughter. They saw Sheera pregnant; they watched Thai grow up. They also understand that Sheera is friends with both Seraphina and Celestia so wham there is your connection."

"Is it possible that this Armand guy has been exposed himself? How do we know he is not infected and potentially spreading the virus as we speak? He's been handling a biological weapon. Potentially unaware of what it truly is." Elena pointed out.

"Mordak would not care if he was on his team or not. No one on Mordak's team is safe from his ruthlessness. Look what he did to Charlie. He beat him to death with his own arm. Why? Because he annoyed him a little too much on an off day. He wouldn't think twice about eliminating a half-breed Fairy Elf like this Armand guy." Regina added.

"So, what do we do now?" Roxie asked.

"If we rush over to the Abernathy place, we risk exposure to the virus, if we don't then we risk a realm wide epidemic and the opportunity to question this jackass."

"But ladies, as goblins we were vaccinated when the virus was first introduced. We should still be immune," Alex said, trying to put their mind at ease.

"Alex, not everyone was vaccinated. Roxie wasn't vaccinated, were you?" Regina asked, looking at Roxie.

"No, I wasn't. We were not in the hot zone, so the vaccine never made it that far." Roxie replied.

"Alex." Elena called out to get his attention.

"I wasn't either. I was on the dig on the other side of the world. Same reasons, the vaccine was never made available because we were considered low risk. Besides we have no idea what effects, if any the virus will have on Elves or Fairies."

"Okay, so that changes the picture somewhat," Alex said, running a hand through his hair.

"We have a sample of whatever it is he was intending to inject, we could essentially identify it. Then maybe come up with a cure if the worst happens. The only problem with that is, it will take time, and I'm not sure how much of that we have," Alex said, while trying to figure out the logistics of testing.

"Regina, please tell me you were vaccinated when it made its way around Falotopia the first time," he said, hopeful. Regina nodded.

"Well, if it is the same virus he used on Falotopia, then yes."

"Wonderful. You have no idea what good news that is." Alex said, a sense of relief washing over him.

"How do you figure, that's good news?" Roxie asked.

"Because, Auntie," Thai interrupted, walking toward the group who was oblivious to her making her way in.

"If you were vaccinated, then you have antibodies and that is what Alex would need to develop a vaccine and cure for the virus, if it's the same," She said, placing a stack of plates on the coffee table.

"That's right." Alex said, snickering.

"I could hear you guys all the way in the kitchen," Thai said matter-of-factly.

"If you don't want me to hear you talk, then you all need to work on your inside voices."
