"Come on, Girlie, we got work to do." Charlie said as he strolled out of the teleport. Regina looked at him incredulously. Did you even graduate from the academy? You didn't check if hostiles were waiting for us, you just casually strolled out into the open, and didn't even morph. No, you don't stand out at all, you pimple faced moron! she thought as she morphed into the fairy form she had used on her prior visit.
She remembered her encounter with Simon and thought better of it and changed her appearance into a young wide-eyed rookie agent.
"Damn, Girlie, you look tasty!" Charlie said, his tongue quite literally hanging out of his mouth.
"Well?" Regina asked, her eyebrows raised.
"Maybe later Sweetheart, we've got a job to do first," he said, licking his lips. Regina wasn't sure if she wanted to punch him out or just feign being attacked and let the fairies deal with him. The slime ball.
"I meant are you intending to go in looking like that?" she asked flatly, looking him up and down.
"Keep checking me out like that and we may take a little time for ourselves," he said, raising his eyebrows and winking. I think I am going to vomit. Her mind screamed out, revolted by the thought.
"Sir, I don't think you are going to get too far without changing first. You um…kind of stand out," she said, calmly.
"Oh yeah," he laughed.
"I got so caught up in your transformation, I forgot about my own," he said before morphing into, what she could only describe as the fairy version of a cover model.
"Maybe something a little less conspicuous?" she said becoming annoyed with his lack of intelligence.
"What's the matter, honey, like what you see just a little too much?" he snickered.
"No, it's fine, you do you." Because you have absolutely no chance of doing me. You want to get caught, that's on you. Keep drawing attention to yourself, there junior. You go right ahead, because I am sure not saving your ass, when you get caught!
"I think we should split up, we could cover more ground that way," she suggested. If you spot this story on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
"Now you're thinking, Girlie, stick with me and I'll teach you a thing or two about getting the job done," he said, winking at her.
"Do you have something in your eye?" she asked, trying to sound sincere.
"I think I have a tissue or something in my pocket." she said, reaching into the bag she carried, feeling around.
"You go in the back. I'll take the front and we'll meet somewhere in the middle," Charlie said, trying to stifle a giggle.
"Just don't get caught, because I'm not coming back for you." Promise? She thought.
"Don't worry, I'll be fine."
"I'm not worried about your ass. I'm worried about mine. You don't seem to have a clue what you're doing, and I am not going to spend the rest of my life in some fairy prison because you're too stupid to do your job," he said coldly.
"Understood, Sir," she said, watching him head toward the building. This ought to be good, she thought, waiting on the edge of the woods for the chaos to ensue. She knew the fairies weren't stupid, after his last stunt, there was no doubt in her mind that they were on some kind of elevated security status. Just what entailed, well that, remained to be seen. She casually walked to a picnic table just outside of the wooded area and sat down.
She took the book she had swiped on her last visit out of her bag and opened it.
"If only I had a snack and a drink, this would be perfect entertainment," she muttered, her eyes cast on the book, but her peripheral vision trained on the front entrance. Five… Four… Three… Two… One … she counted down in her head, then as if on cue, alarm bells started ringing and sirens began to blare. Regina did her best not to belly laugh when she saw Charlie running from the building, with several armed guards in hot pursuit.
"Run, Charlie, run! Good luck Charlie, see you on the other side…maybe." she muttered to herself. She stood up and slowly made her way over to a crowd that had gathered.
"Oh my!" Regina said.
"What is going on?" she asked, looking wide eyed and innocent.
"That's got to be the guy that killed Farthingsworth!" an older man shouted.
"He tried to get past security, but when they scanned him, he came up as an unknown species, he's not even a fairy!" he said excitedly.
"That's awful!" Regina said.
"I'm so glad they caught him. It was pretty unnerving knowing he was out there. Especially after… you know… what he did to Farthingsworth and all. Who's to say which one of us would have been next?" Regina said, doing her best to look afraid.
"No need to worry, honey, I don't think he will be hurting anyone else," an older fairy woman said, putting her arm around Regina.
"Oh, you poor thing, you're shaking, let's get you inside," she said, guiding Regina, using her badge to open the door, as the crowd followed in behind them. The security guard waved them all in, not noticing the poor scared fairy nestled safely in their protective embrace. That's how you do it, Charlie. She thought, staying close to the group.
