Mordak headed back to his office, exceptionally proud of himself. Elios' idea was brilliant. He hadn't even thought of a containment unit, but then again, he did not truly think that the actual baby would be brought in. Now he would get the accolades for the brilliance of the idea and its construction. Everything was coming together beautifully. Not only would he have the actual baby in his hands, but he would also have an accomplice to destroy as well. This would add an additional level of thrill to the execution.
He could see it now, the blood, the horror on the audiences' faces as he ripped the heads off not one but two! He could see himself punting the heads across the fairgrounds. Maybe he would make it fun for all and let the audience take turns kicking it around. He could charge a fee to play.
"That's brilliant," he muttered, making a mental note to have some tickets printed up. The crowds would be amazed at how he saved them from the menacing pair, while making a little pocket money. His ratings would most certainly go through the roof after the execution. He would be responsible for destroying the biggest threat the goblin race had ever seen. The people would praise him for saving them. They would revere him for his diligence. He would use his newfound popularity to further his domination agenda.
This plan would be easy to implement, too easy. Give them the bare minimum under the guise of salvation and they would submit to his every will. His shock and awe strategy had the masses so confused about what was really going on. His flurry of executive orders kept everyone guessing from one day to the next as to which way was up. He would oftentimes sign conflicting orders, just to keep things fun and interesting. He chuckled as he let himself into his office and saw the McJunky's bag in the trash.
That's right, I wanted my dinner, he thought to himself as he inspected the floor where his previous order had spilled. He pressed the intercom button.
"Correct me if I am wrong, but did I or did I not tell you…" he began before inhaling deeply and screamed, "I wanted my dinner!"
"But sir," the voice on the other side said flustered.
"You had told me to cancel it," the voice said humbly. This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.
"You should have ordered a new one the minute you saw me!" he screamed.
"What are you? An idiot? You must be an idiot. Well now you're a fired idiot!"
"But, sir…" the voice said meekly.
"Don't think you can collect any unemployment because I am firing you for gross incompetence. Keep it up and I will add insubordination too!" he screamed.
"Now pack your stuff and take your butt out of here before I call security." Mordak plopped down in his chair.
"I am surrounded by idiots!" he cursed as he picked up the phone and pressed a button.
"Yeah, Smithers, send me someone for my desk." He paused listening to the person on the other end.
"No, I just fired him…"
"I really don't care that he is the fifth one this week. Keep it up and you will be number six…."
"Stop sending me idiots…" Mordak thrummed his fingers on the desk, listening to the man on the other end of the receiver.
"I expect someone to be in that seat in the next five minutes…" Mordak began examining his fingernails, then rolled his eyes.
"Not my problem," Mordak said, flicking imaginary dust off his sleeve.
"I don't care if you need to promote the janitor. I said, I want someone in that chair… in … Four minutes. Now you only have four minutes, so I expect you to stop wasting time and get someone in it even if you have to come down here and do the job yourself!" he said, slamming the phone down. Mordak sat back contemplating what he would do when the baby arrived. He picked up the phone and called the lab.
"Is it here yet?" he asked.
"No, okay, call me the minute it arrives. Where's Elios?" he asked, rocking back and forth in his chair.
"Good, that's where he should be," Mordak said before placing the phone back on the cradle.
"Sir!" a young man said, as he entered the room out of breath.
"My name is Tutmosis and I am…"
"Did I ask you what your name was?" Mordak asked, glaring at him.
"No, I did not. You know why I didn't ask you what your name was?" he asked coldly. Mordak paused, waiting for a response. Tutmosis looked around the room uncomfortably, then opened his mouth to speak, but was cut off before being able to utter a solitary word.
"Why? Because I don't care enough about you to learn it, or believe you will be here long enough for it to matter," Mordak said coldly, getting up and walking toward him.
"See that desk over there?" he asked, pointing out the door.
"That is where you belong. Sitting at the desk. In that chair," he commanded, shooting him an icy stare.
"You only speak when you are spoken to. You do what you are told and don't ask why, what, or where." The color drained from the young man's face as he stood blankly staring at Mordak.
"You're standing here because?" Mordak asked, his voice starting to rise.
"Go!" he said before slamming the door. He rushed to his desk and pressed the intercom button.
"Order me my usual from McJunky's. I want it here in ten minutes or you're fired," he yelled depressing the button, not giving him a chance to respond.
