June accepted the world and all its hatred for him. And by doing so, his body regained function. All the input he had spent an immeasurable time trying had come all at once as a unanimous squeal while his body began to convulse violently enough for him to fall off the bed headfirst.
It took a while for the convulsions to end, but June stood up, swayed over to a dull iron medicine pantry, and looked at his distorted image. His entire face was opaque; polished iron was reflective, but it served the purpose of a mirror poorly. Strangely, June's eyes seemed clearer despite the false mirror. He studied his reflection.
'Crap…' He busted his lip. His reflection looked back with a goofy smile. June limply slathered his face with his hand. He was not smiling. But his reflection was. It slowly lifted a hand and pointed at the exit.
'Ok, Ok, Simple mission.'
'I just need to sneak in and assassinate a royal or two, and voila, I'll be rich enough to afford my own glistening castle.' A man stood in a long hallway, walking past several doors.
'Damn Royals and their damn royal tumbler''Who else could afford something so damn big?' The royal tumbler was a vehicle that, as its name stated, transported royals across the vast lands of the nightrealm. The vehicle was a leviathan compared to others; it was truly a moving palace. Each door in the long hall was a subspace with its own miniature palace inside. The occasional bump when it crushed hills and scaled mountains was impossible to notice while within each magical door.
'Maybe I'll get a little brave and take the entire damn thing for myself.' This man was an aspirant, and a stupid one at that, but despite his mannerisms and idealistic thinking, he managed to sneak past several sensors designed to detect exactly what he was doing, not to even mention the weaselly man even managed to sneak past dozens of guards and a few Dreamers on the way to his destination. To put it plainly, he was skilled. He entered one of many ornate doors, specifically one door with the words 'Harth'.
'I wouldn't mind getting to meet some of the princesses.' The assassin snuck past several sensors leading into the estate, and clambered up the stairs silently. On the second floor, there was a room in the center with two large double doors, and to either side was a line of five regular-sized, but also well-decorated, ornate doors. The royal tumbler had its own staff; it wasn't owned by one country but owned by several in a coalition. The staff for the tumbler was hired through an esteemed proxy company that served no one country. Many of the staff working as doctors, chefs, guards, and technicians were all employed through this singular company; in fact, despite the legitimacy of the company, an occasional worm would find its way in. Why were the assassin's tools in the infirmary? Well, he was the doctor, of course.
'I would have finished this job already if it wasn't for that damned comatose freak.'
'How should I have known that freak would maim me for gods' sakes?' This man was the doctor who tried to take June's bracelets. The assassin opened the door to the infirmary silently. Despite being the one who operated it to take care of June, servants weren't allowed within any of the royal rooms beyond a curfew, and specific jobs like doctors or room service weren't allowed entry unless they had been requested.
They had their own dorms and eateries in different parts of the vehicle, so unless requested, the staff and royals often never caught glimpses of each other. The room was dark, the assassin quietly and quickly delivered a deep gash to where June's neck would be with a scalpel, and carried on to collect his tools that were taken apart and scattered around the infirmary. Parts of a handgun were placed within the ventilation tubes. The assassin assembled it with practiced ease.
A switchblade was located in the hard and rough cushion of a stool that was stacked in the corner.
'Good thing they don't do routine inspections after the royals get into their rooms.' The man then took the stool apart, further snapping the metal tube that made its legs, and a black suppressor slid out.
'Old reliable' The man placed a kiss on the suppressor before screwing it onto his handgun. Before leaving, he gently shut the door and placed a pillow on June's face before chanting something.
"Silence" A small, clear ball of distortion appeared around the pillow, smothering June's face. The assassin then placed his pistol on it and fired it once into June's head through the pillow.
'One target down' The man pulled out a pouch and pulled another bullet out of it. He then manually chambered the bullet into the gun and popped its slide back in the orb of silence.
'Now it's time for my cordial visit to the ice princess.' The man gingerly opened the door of the infirmary and slid out.
'fourth door to the left of the main Chambers' The man counted with a nod of his gun for each door.
He entered Lilia's room, there was no lock, it was a large room, the bed was big enough for several families to sit on it, the room had a dressing table, a wardrobe that seemingly sprung from the floor and pierced the ceiling, a nice fur carpet that draped the floors near the bed, the rooms window's was merely a projection of a serene and lush lake with beautiful strands of vermilion drapes that let the artificial moonlight in. The man walked closer to the bed.
The fur carpet touched the same wall as the headrest, the room was oval-shaped, and the large bed was only as high as the man's shins. The bed had a frame around it and beautiful white drapes that fell to obscure the sleeping beauty. The room was silent, only accompanied by the sound of the ice princess breathing. The room was vast, but it only took a few steps for the man to reach the carpet and ruin it with his tainted soles. Her voice sounded light, a little imbued with every gasping breath.
Like a baby in her crib.
'A one-on-one date with me, the princess just lost her suitor anyway.' The man was eager, too eager. The breaths got closer as he got closer. He stopped outside the drapes that obscured the sleeping ice princess. A soft chime of an intercom went off behind him. Ding Ding Ding"Please remove your goods from the bagging area." The sound of a pleasant woman's voice, muddied by the static of an intercom, came from behind the man. The issue was that the tumbler didn't have intercoms inside the royal rooms.
"What the fu.." A swift hand came out of the darkness to cover his mouth. Another woman's voice, muddied by the static of an intercom, came again from behind.
"If you drop something on the tracks, please ask any employee for help." The assassin tried to wrestle his arm away, but it didn't move. It started dragging him backwards. Shhhhhh Despite the simple sound, its voice distorted and sounded as if a band of fairies played a jovial tune to lure a child into the maw of an unforgiving forest. The grip on the man's mouth tightened; he felt his cheekbones creaking out of stress. It slowly dragged him out the door and across the hallway and down the stairs.
Every single silent alarm was tripped as it dragged the assassin with a firm and malicious care. It dragged him out of the subspace and dragged him down the long, winding halls of the tumbler. It was impossible to tell if it was breathing, a continuous tune exhumed from it like a holy organ. Then it posed a question, in a harrowing multi-corded harmonic voice.
"Would you want to hear a song, little one?"
