June has been in a feverish loop of crossing realms. Every time he blinks, he wakes up in a bed in the mundane realm or wakes in an infirmary in the nightrealm.
'I feel like I split.'
'I feel like I changed.'
'I feel… better.' This constant state of falling between realms was unlike how it normally was; days weren't passing when he woke and blinked, the rule of ten-minute mundane sleeps was broken, and no time was passing in either realm while he was in the other. Every time his soul feels it has crossed a void, a barrier that wasn't there before. At first, it was sickening. Time was no longer an absolute law. Days and nights were no longer broken by intermissions of rest.
His will was stronger than ever, but it refused to chain him a single plain.
Memories of his paralysis come and go. His clothing was gone. He wore scrubs instead. On his wrist, Shade and Lilia's bracelets remained. He remembered someone had tried to take it. A doctor tried to remove it. Now his caretakers were scared of him. Lilia, Mortimer, and the family still visited him regardless. June would try to talk, but his mouth wouldn't make words. No air left his mouth, no hum resonated along his throat; his mouth would form a shape different from what he intended.
His thinking was fine, better in fact, expanded. His senses were muddied, but improved. Sometimes the voice would return and help him move his body in the way he intended.
The voice didn't respond to his questions. It was always silent or spoke with humorous nothings. It was not a parasite. It was not foreign. Another June. Another part of June. A repressed part, maybe? A piece that existed for too long.
The voice did not speak often; it did not contend for control over the body. It was his only friend he was able to communicate with. It was surprisingly lonely not being able to talk out loud after all.
A Dreamer's will battled the world. It was the reason they were able to bend reality and spawn magics or incomprehensible powers. They had to battle the world, and they had to supplement the hole they tore into the world with their world. One of their own making. The world constantly rejected them. And to give in means to lose one's powers and maybe oneself.
Like an infantile God, they floundered for greater power, tearing chunks of the world to stake their corroding claims over the laws of the world for an inconsequential amount of time. June was tired of resisting. Every day, he accepted his fate and then resisted it. It was why his will was so potent after all; he purely focused his will on his goals instead of constantly battling the world. It was too tiring. It had gone on for too long. I. GIVE. UP June gave into the world. He stopped resisting.
He thought it would consume him. And despite his predictions. He did not cease. Death did not come. He was able to move again.
