Aidan The voidlings and the void golems clash with the void golems easily being overwhelmed by their sheer numbers. But the voidlings still lose a few simply because of the void mage, who swings its sword again and slices straight through three of the voidlings in one swing. I narrow my eyes before my eyes lock onto the sword in his hand. One that has quite a lot of source mana in it. So much that I can practically smell it from here.
In fact, it's not just the void mage setting off my hunger, but both the void mage and his sword. The void mage's eyes flare with purple light as another set of eight void golems appear out of the void mana in the air. And at the same time, the void mage swings his sword to cut through four more voidlings. I order half of my voidlings to target the new void golems – all of whom are elite void golems – while the other half targets the void mage himself. All while I rush at the void mage as well.
The void mage looks up at me when he sees me running, but that doesn't stop him from swinging his blade and slicing through three more voidlings. This time, though, I have the voidlings take advantage of his swing to jump forward and body-slam into the blade while some of them attack the sword with their scythes and others tackle the void mage himself.
And while the void mage is struggling with getting the voidlings off of itself, I charge up myself and use both Void Tear and my new Void Rend skill on the void mage's downed form. The void mage himself doesn't take all that much damage, mostly just scratches and dents in his armor from it all, but it stops him from focusing on his blade. When I reach it, I try to grab the blade with my voidlings. But it doesn't budge. The blade is firmly in the void mage's hand and it won't move no matter how much I try. Again.
This is a mage…? Still. It doesn't matter. I'm already draining source mana from the sword even as the void mage continues holding it. And I feel immense relief to my hunger as I drain the sword. The void mage doesn't seem to notice anything wrong with his sword for now as he focuses on my voidlings. Trying to rip them off of him one after another. But my other voidlings that were dealing with his void golems join the dogpile on top of him after they finish killing the void golems, keeping him down even longer.
Fortunately, the voidlings are now strong enough to deal with the elite void golems themselves. Since they're all higher level soldiers made from the elite void golems own mana cores. So the voidling soldiers destroyed the void golems via targeting their cores. Of course, this won't keep him down for long. But it should be long enough for me to drain his weapon of any potential use. And while I'm draining it, I find its System description appearing in my vision. Which only makes me want to deal with it even faster.
[Blade of the Void Killer – A blade forged out of pure killing intent, void mana, and voidrite for the void mage during his time as a void killer. The blade can cut directly through mana and devour it, growing stronger the more mana the blade devours. Using the blade also grants the wielder 30 points in Physical.] I'll have to ask Seraphyne about what voidrite is later, but for now, I need to get rid of the source mana in this blade as quickly as possible. Discover and support the author on the platform they originally published on. It's just too powerful. And it's being wielded by a boss that is already incredibly powerful. So I continue to drain the blade of source mana bit by bit. Getting two entire level-up messages before even reaching halfway through draining the blade. [User's Profession, Void Creator, has reached level 35. User's stats have risen by the following amounts: +1 Mind, +1 Soul, +1 Free Point.] ◊*New Profession Skill*◊ [Ability Synthesis(Legendary) – Grants the Void Creator the power to give a single inborn Racial Skill to each of the void creatures they create.] ◊*New Profession Skill*◊ [User's Class, Void Devourer, has reached level 36. User's stats have risen by the following amounts: +2 Physical, +2 Magical, +2 Mind, +2 Soul, +1 Free Point.] That new skill looks useful, but not right now.
I drain the sword bit by bit as the void mage continues throwing voidlings off of himself while crushing some of them with his bare hand. But no matter what, the boss never lets go of the blade. And the reason for it is clear now that I've seen the sword's description. It's because his physical stat increases by an entire thirty points when he's wielding the blade. So if I get him to drop it, or if I finish draining the source mana in the sword, his physical stat should plummet.
Considering how determined he is to not drop that sword, though, the latter is more likely. While draining the sword, I feel pain flooding me as the void mage repeatedly slams his elbow, fist, and even his legs sometimes into me during the struggle. Breaking bones one after another. But since most of his hits slam into my voidlings and not me, I'm still alive and well. Not to mention that I keep leveling up and draining source mana.
Or at least, this is the case until the void mage suddenly stops and focuses on his sword. Seemingly noticing the weakening weapon at last. But at this point, the weapon has already lost over half of its source mana. And right when he starts to turn his attention towards me, I get another level from the blade. [User's Profession, Void Creator, has reached level 36. User's stats have risen by the following amounts: +1 Mind, +1 Soul, +1 Free Point.] The void mage suddenly lets out a roar of anger as his grip on the blade tightens before he begins to emit purple energy all over his body. Then he slams both of his arms outwards with the blade still in one hand, throwing everyone, including myself, off of him. I grit my teeth as I slam into the battlement walls of the tower's roof. Probably cracking more of my bones along with the battlements in the process.
When I look up again, I find the void mage already charging straight at me with purple energy flooding out of his eyes and through the gaps in his armor. Armor that is still almost completely undamaged despite his time spent being dogpiled onto. With the sole exception being the scratches and dents on it. I roll to the side while gritting my teeth and ignoring the pain flooding my body. And at the same time, I order the surviving voidlings to back away as well.
Then the void mage slams into the battlements, utterly destroying them as the bricks that used to make up the battlements go flying off the tower. But he himself manages to stop himself from falling. I build some distance between the void mage and myself as I take in stock how many voidlings are still alive. Which aren't all that many. Probably about a third of the number I came here with. That's not good. But things should be a lot easier once I finally get rid of that weapon.
I focus on the void mage again as he turns around and begins charging once more. Leaving me rolling out of the way and letting him fly by to slam into more battlements. And while he's recovering from slamming into brick battlements, I rush straight over before silently placing my hand on his weapon. Continuing my drain for a few seconds. Then I let go and jump away when he swings his arm out to hit me after noticing my presence touching his sword. Okay, this might work.
I make sure to keep my voidlings far back as I continue this method of fighting. Taking advantage of the void mage's berserk status for as long as I can. I even make sure to run back and restore a voidling every now and then after letting the void mage charge to slam into the battlement walls. And, by the time the void mage's berserk status finally runs out and the purple energy stops radiating from under his armor, most of the battlement walls on top of the tower are completely in ruins.
With the vast majority of the source mana in his sword having been drained. It's to the point that the blade only gives three points of Physical now instead of the thirty points it used to. Which is rather evident in how he kept having less and less of an impact on the battlement walls with each charge. Not to mention that he was charging slower every time. Of course, he's still significantly stronger and faster than me. But this is at least manageable, unlike the start of the battle.
Equipment really is important for others. And while I can't use my own System Items, I can ruin my target's. So that's a good battle strategy to keep in mind when fighting against stronger opponents.
