" Wow! It's surprisingly big!"" Well, there are a lot of Adventurers here in this town, so, the main room of the Guild can fit around 600 people at a time. Also, if I'm not mistaken, the 2nd floor can fit another 100 visitors outside of the Staff of the Guild." Jessie explained why it was that the Phoenix Tail Adventurers Guild was the size it was. It's even bigger than the Guild in Whitestone, the Capital of Promethia. It really puts into perspective how important Adventurers are here in Phoenix Tail.
From what I've read about this city, the town is protected mostly by Adventurers that are hired by the Government of Promethia via the Adventurers Guild. Apparently, it's a great way for C-Rank and above Adventurers to make a solid living with a pretty good salary, it's only slightly less than a regular fully-trained Solider. And unlike the Soldiers, the Adventurers are on a rotation schedule, so they can return to doing Quests in their down time. It's an arrangement that everyone seems quite happy with.
Taking a final gaze at the building, I'm reminded of big factories in big cities back in my world. Only the Guild building was made of strong, brown wood with red accents. The entrance was made up of 2 giant white doors that seemed to be dyed wood. Just above the doors was a sign that read "Adventurers Guild" in giant red letters. It was quite eye catching." Now then, enough gawking at the building, let's head in." Jessie began to walk forward towards the giant white doors as he called for our attention.
We quickly followed behind him since he knew his way around the place." Wow... It's a lot nicer than the Capital's." Luke couldn't hold back his thoughts. We've all been to the Adventurers Guild in Whitestone, but it feels more like an office rather than walking into what looks like a bar and restaurant inside. It was quite jovial, people were carrying on as if it was a big party. Well... That was until they all saw us walking into the Guild.
One man stepped forward, he was tall, but very fat, but you can see that behind the fat was solid muscle. The man was bald and was tanned quite brown, it gave the idea that he's spent a lot of time in the sun. He began to form quite a wide, Cheshire-like grin as Jessie walked closer and closer to him." Well, well, well... Jessie! How've you been?"
Jessie moves closer to the man and brings his hand out in front of him in anticipation of a handshake, the man made the same movement and before long, they had brought their hands together and wrapped their arms around each other's backs." Chet! I've been pretty alright! How about yourself!?"" Ah! You know how it is! There's always a new batch of Adventurers to teach! Speaking of which, are these kids who I think they are?" The man...
"Chet". He looked at us behind Jessie, it looks like he knows who we are. While Chet might've known who we were, the rest of the Guild seemed curious. Jessie could see that our group had taken most of the attention in the Guild Hall and seemed to just accept it." Yeah, it's the Hero Party." Jessie, in an almost easygoing fashion, admitted to who we were. This went as I expected it to." The Hero?..."" They actually came?..."" Maybe they're looking for glory?..."" They did fail at Diablos, didn't they?...""
Well, they almost succeeded in Atheis, right?..."" It's still in ruin and rubble though?..." A bunch of murmuring had begun all around us. It looks like the Adventurers weren't like the townspeople, since most of the Adventurers were looking at us with eyes of pity and sympathy. There were only a few that looked at us with disbelief or dislike. Maybe we should take solace in that? Love what you're reading? So, that report that Alexis got, it wasn't lying, eh? Interesting..."" Lex showed you the King's response?"" Well, I'm pretty much everyone's Senior here, including Alexis. I was just curious about his response, he's usually a bit... Dismissive of us Adventurers, but I didn't quite believe that he would send the Hero Party. I had my money on the Church's Militia."" Well, looks like you'll need to pay up. I'll have you know that I've been personally training the Hero myself. He's ready for this.""
Where would you Rank his Skills if he didn't have the Hero Job?"" Probably B-Rank? But with the Hero Abilities, the Demons shouldn't be too much of an issue. Especially with his support."" Yes, what can a Hero... Or even an Adventurer be, without teammates? Well, since you're here, you'll also be going with them, right, Jessie?"" Of course. I'll be there as a Mentor mostly, but since there's Demons, I'll probably wind up having to fight as well. It'll be fun, I haven't had a real fight in a while." tap. tap.
"?" Jessie and Chet began to go back and forth between each other. While they were doing that, I noticed that Luke seemed to be staring at some of the more dismissive eyes on us. While thinking about what to do about that, I felt a tap on my shoulder." Jai, it's like we're on a movie set!" Ashley had excitedly tapped on my shoulder. It looks like she's ignored the stares of everyone and has been looking around the Guild Hall. There were different things that stuck out to someone looking around it.
From the Monster heads that were hanging on the right side wall, from tiny Goblins to even a Wyvern's head being mounted on the wall, along with that, as your eyes moved along, you'd see that there was a Quest Board the size of a theater screen placed next to the bar of the Hall. It was filled with different requests, from Monster Extermination Quests, to picking herbs, finding lost pets, requests for Bodyguard work and even Recruitment for different Shops who need temporary workers.
It was all interesting to look at. Continuing to look around, I could see that the left wall was filled with well-worn weapons of all different types, from blades, spears, bows, staves and wands, everything seemed to be up on the wall. It truly did look like a set from a fantasy movie." I know, Ash... It looks so fun!" Lucy overheard Ashley's words to me and she agreed with Ashley." Those weapons on the left have plaques with names on them. They must belong to Fallen Adventurers."
Laura also seemed to notice something that even I didn't. I mean, my eyes were still adjusting to the lighting here in the Guild, but I did notice the plaques underneath the weapons." It must be a tribute to Fallen Friends. Maybe we should stop by it before we leave and offer a prayer?" I offered my own thoughts about the weapons. It might help ingratiate ourselves to this new place, though admittedly, I would want to give a prayer regardless of if it benefited us. It just seemed like the right thing to do."
That sounds like a great idea, Jaime." Luke seemed to agree with me. He joined into the conversation only after hearing Laura's voice. Whether he was trying to better Laura's opinion of him or actually wanted to give a prayer, was something I wouldn't be able to tell. /BANG! / A loud bang took me out of my thoughts. Not just that, but it also took everyone's attention away from us. It came from the front of the hall.
I could see that it must've been the door at the top of the stairs that we could see from where we were standing. I could see a somewhat slim figure approaching us, as the person came closer and closer, who the person was, became clearer and clearer." Ah!" Jessie looked happy to see the person. It was a woman who was walking towards us. She was dressed in a Traditional Knight's Uniform that's used for Military Events. It looked like the type of suit a Butler would wear back in our world.
It was all black, except for silver highlights along the hem of the clothes. It added a clean and elegant look to the woman who continued to walk towards us. She had long blonde hair and light-green eyes... Well... Actually eye... She had an eyepatch over her left eye. From what I could see from the right side of her face, the woman was quite pretty. She looked like she could've easily been a celebrity back in our world. Well... Except for one glaring problem.
She also seemed to have quite a terrible scar as well on the left side of her face that tracked from her forehead down through her eye and ending at the left side of her chin. Despite the scar and eyepatch, which would usually be detriments, it somehow added to her mystique. I'd wager that it made the men of the Adventurers Guild actually view her as more attractive. Eventually, her calm, elegant footsteps full of confidence stopped in front of our group. She gazed at us with a confident, strong look.
It was a look as if she had been through many battles. She breathed in deeply before she spoke quite loudly in a rough, but feminine voice." Hello, Hero Luke and the Hero Party, my name is Alexis Lionclaw! I'm the Guild Master here in Phoenix Tail! Thank you very much for volunteering to come and deal with the Demon menace afflicting the area around us!" Her voice cleared any of the chatter that was happening in the Guild. Everyone looked surprised, except for Jessie and us.
We've all learned how to keep a poker face from our respective Teachers. The reason why I bring this up, is because the Guild Master just introduced herself to us and then lied about why we were here... I wonder why she did that?
