Chương 84: Chapter 83 – You Never Know, It Could Have Happened

Seraphina looked at Celestia, dumbfounded by her remark. Humans, of all the species. Really?

"How can that be? The humans have to be the least technologically advanced of all the realms," she said taking the device from Celestia and looking for herself.

"What are humans?" Elena asked. Seraphina looked at the close-up photo. Oh, my Janus! She's right. They look just like humans. Could they be an offshoot of humans? Seraphina asked herself. She handed the device back to Elena.

"These are, or a direct relation," she said, giving Celestia a perplexed look.

"I was stationed in the human realm, and I can tell you, that is a picture of a human. There is no doubt in my mind. Seph is right though, they have no technology at all. They are also a highly superstitious bunch who blame all that is wrong on someone they call the devil or Satan. They are violent, argumentative, and all around backward on the evolutionary scale." Celestia said matter-of-factly.

"Thai was found in the human realm. We believe her mother is human, but we have no way to actually confirm that either." Seraphina said, looking at Celestia.

"An old woman abandoned Thai in the woods. From what Celestia could glean, the old woman believed she was saving Thai by leaving her there for us. She thought that the people in her village would burn her and her mother alive because of her elven ears and blue skin."

"So basically, if you are correct, and the ancient race of mysterious beings in the photo are in fact human, they lack the technology to develop teleport technology?" Elena asked.

"Well, yes, I mean they have no… and I mean no technology in that realm at all. They use candles for light, fire for heat. I find it unlikely that they were the ones who designed and created such an elaborate device." Seraphina answered.

"Not necessarily," Elena said.

"Hear me out here, it's only a theory, but... what if when the people who were utilizing the portal technology inadvertently reset the whole human species? If they were messing with things they didn't understand. That when they traveled for the first time they froze and destroyed their realm in the process? What if, they had to start all over again?" she asked.

"It doesn't explain how the technology got into the goblin realm and the fairy sphere. We know they eventually made it to the fairy realm because we have the teleport system." Seraphina said.

"How could they have made it to both if the one that made it here to your realm destroyed the human realm?"

"What if, there were two competing groups, each with their own teleport system? Elena asked. She snapped her fingers and turned to the pair quickly, "What if the ruins found in Falotopia were not the only teleports sent out and this one just happened to malfunction? What if this technology was used like the technology currently in the fairy realm?" she asked excitedly and began pacing.

"Are you guys following what I am saying?" she said looking from one to the other's blank faces.

"What if it was only supposed to be a stop on the teleport line? That they were using the technology regularly to travel to the different realms? That the one we discovered here malfunctioned in some way and destroyed… let's just say the main hub… taking the human realm with it." Elena stopped pacing for a moment, tapping the marker against her palm as if trying to organize her thoughts.

"Hear me out, if the human realm reset, there would be no going back. The technology would have been lost, and what was created on the Fairy Sphere was their way of building a way home?" Elena shifted and absently pointed the pen at Celestia.

"We have no way of knowing what effects a malfunction of the machine would have had on space-time, it could have created a cataclysm of epic proportions," she said wide-eyed, her arms flailing.

"The human realm started over again because… it had to. If you take a worldwide cataclysm with few survivors wiping out all knowledge and technology, they would have to start from the beginning."

"You know, Seraphina, that would make sense," Celestia said.

"Our own portal understanding has been so limited. We just know what was told to us by the previous generations," she said, standing up and walking toward Elena.

"The fairies were designated the keepers of the gates, but we have no idea how or when the gates came to be. We have been tasked with patrolling and monitoring the advancements in each of the realms we were tasked with protecting. We didn't even know about the goblin realm, why was that left out?" Seraphina contemplated this.

"Okay, so that adds another layer of mystery. If the fairy realm has the portal technology and has been actively using it for as long as recorded time, why is there no record of this realm?"

"I don't know, Seraphina. Lost knowledge? I am sure there's lots of things the fairies don't know or understand. You don't have people questioning the history. Basically, no one has been looking for answers. You may not know this either, but your portals and the one we found are fundamentally the same but differ tremendously as well," Elena said.

"Your portals are governed by Shirley, are you guys even aware that Shirley is an Acronym?" Seraphina and Celestia looked at each other surprised. They both shook their heads no at Elena.

"It stands for Spectral Harmonic Interstitial Realm Linking Ethereal Yield." Elena said matter-of-factly.

"She essentially links all the gates in your realm, the technology we discovered is not connected or even capable of connecting to that network."

"For all this time I thought it was a cute nickname," Celestia snickered.

"Your gates are fixed, where the technology we found is fluid, you basically end up where you end up," Elena said.

"So you mean that it has only been dumb luck that Mordak has only infiltrated the fairy realm and not ended up anywhere else?" Seraphina asked.

"Well, at that we know of, anyway."

"Yes and no," Elena said.

"It seems that once a place in time and space has been determined, the system will naturally end up in or around that same place. It leaves a spatial footprint of sorts."

"So how do we have similar but different technologies in two realms?" Seraphina asked, trying to make sense of it all.

"My theory, and it is only a theory, is that two factions of humans were working on the same technology, one group ended up in the fairy realm and developed the Shirley system. They could have been testing new tech, or it may have been hijacked or malfunctioning. It all went horribly wrong, whatever they were doing that day." Elena said, raising her eyebrows.

"The group that made it to Falotopia is still there, where the Fairy group went on to develop your realm, but kept technology to less invasive devices."

"So how does any of this help with our prophecy dilemma?" Seraphina asked.

"it seems to me we got way off topic here."

"I don't think we have." Elena said, going back to the white board.

"The portal system works on time space, at least that is what the engineers think. They haven't nailed down exactly how it works and Shirley, well Shirley won't dish." she said, shrugging her shoulders.

"What if they were able to go forward or backward in time and were able to witness what is happening now and record it, giving us a roadmap of the events to better enable us to prepare for them?"
