Mordak returned to his office still fuming over Elios' overzealous approach to solving the transporter problem.
"Idiots, I am surrounded by idiots," he muttered as he slammed the door. He stormed over to his desk and plopped down in the chair and shook his head.
"It's so hard to find good help these days." He glanced down at the paperwork still sitting there from his earlier meeting.
"How dare that jerk embarrass him and the whole administration like that." He huffed.
"This is not the kind of attention we need right now." He pressed the intercom button on his desk.
"Get in here," he snapped, then depressed the button. A young man came rushing in, notebook in hand.
"What can I do for you, sir?" he asked, flustered.
"First we need to do a press release about this morning," he said, taking a deep breath. How do I spin this? He thought to himself.
"Did you dig up any dirt I can use on this Farrand guy?" he asked, hoping for some good news.
"Yes, sir," the young man replied.
"It seems he was kicked out of the military years ago." He sighed, "But other than a few drunk and disorderly and simple assault charges from his youth, he's clean."
"I can work with that," Mordak said, smiling.
"By the time I get done with him, I will have every man, woman and child in Falotopia calling for his head." He snickered.
"Okay, take this down," he said, standing up from his desk and placing his hands behind his back.
"Mister Farrand stormed into the meeting this morning obviously intoxicated or impaired by an unknown substance, most likely a restricted drug of some kind," he stopped and turned to the assistant who was writing feverishly.
"I'll let you find the drug, pick the most illegal substance we have, and tie it into him being a long-time user."
"Yes, sir," he said, not looking up from his notepad. If you spot this narrative on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
"I want you to say that he came in argumentative, threatening violence. I'm not talking about threats to punch someone… something bigger like an all-out attack on the capitol, like some kind of terrorist. Tell them that he had been kicked out of the military for selling secrets to the enemy." He snickered, "The people hate a traitor."
"Sir, he was discharged due to punching his commanding officer in the face. Other than that, he had an exemplary record," the assistant added.
"There was no mention of any treasonous activity."
"So, we call up a couple of generals and have them add it. We will need a few to back the story up anyway," Mordak said, nodding his head.
"He went after his commanding officer when he was found out. You know, for the drug addiction and beat him within an inch of his life and his poor commander has not been the same since," He snickered.
"Oooh, I like that."
"How do we justify the officer punching him today, sir, there were witnesses," the young man asked, unsure how he should handle it.
"From what I understand there is also video as well as vocal recordings, sir." Mordak thought about this.
"Hmm," he said, mulling over different possibilities in his head.
"I've got it!" he yelled, "Tell them he whispered that when he got home he was going to burn a puppy wrapped in a flag and the guard just reacted," Mordak turned to his assistant.
"Include this too. It was brought to our attention after he was released that we found a large cache of weapons. We also found drugs, counterfeit money, women and children chained to the walls and what the hell… a stack of dead puppies who he had been using for firewood," he nodded his head.
"He is now wanted dead or alive to stand trial for treason, drug running, weapons charges, trafficking, cruelty to animals and abuse of a corpse."
"Abuse of a corpse, sir?" he asked, flipping through the notes.
"Oh, didn't I mention the young lady they found in his bed, all evidence suggests he was having intimate relations with her both before and after her death, let's see, she was also a minor, so add statutory rape to the charges."
"Are you sure you want to go that far, sir?" the young man asked as he looked over the mounting charges.
"I want people so livid that they rip him apart limb from limb. I don't want there to be anything left of him, I want him destroyed, obliterated, discredited, and dismantled!" Mordak screamed at the young man.
"So yes, I want it to go that far!"
