"Hey buddy," Elios began, looking over at the now visibly intoxicated Trula.
"How you doing over there?" he asked.
"You know sumaftin?" Trula asked, before belching loudly, causing him to snicker and place a hand over his mouth.
"Toosday is one of…" he hiccups, "dose days whe..." hiccups again, "wheres I really hate my job," he said, trying to focus his eyes on Elios.
"What happened today that made today any different from any other?' Elios asked, as he slid another drink toward Trula.
"Wentwart is jus, soo berry twisty," Trula said, reaching for the drink in front of him.
"Dos you know what he has been doing in the lab? It's hoorible, just absolutely horrible."
"Why don't you tell me about it, Trula," Elios began.
"You know, just to get it off your chest. Especially if it bothers you that much." Elios shot Trula an empathetic glance.
"Yous knows I can't tell you nuttin, Elios. Con… confi… confidential. Dos not matter that you my friend Elios. Da only friend I hab in dat awful place," Trula said, before taking a long swig from the glass.
"What if I promise not to tell anyone?" Elios asked, hopeful.
"You probis?" Trula asked, his eye lids seeming to increase in weight while he tried to focus on Elios.
"How come dare are two of you?" he asked, rocking forward to try to get a closer look at Elios' face.
"I has to pick one to tells. I don't know da udder one. He began to laugh.
"Anybays, if you pinky promise, I depose, it would bees alright if I tells you sum pards," he said, taking another drink.
"It's up to you Trula, if you need to talk about it, I'm here to listen, and what you tell me stays right here between the two of us. You do trust me, right?" Elios said, before standing up, "I'm going to give you a minute to think about it while I get us a couple more drinks, okay?"
"Soundz like a good plan," Trula slurred.
"I'm gonna needs me a couple of few more drinks to tell youz, its really berry terrible, you will be disgustim... disgustat…you know what I'm trying to says."
"Okay, be back in a minute or two, you sit tight and I will be right back," Elios said, turning away. A large smile formed on his lips as he walked through the dimly lit bar. He knew it was getting late just by the volume of customers who remained in the bar. There were your normal bar flies and drunkards perched on their stools, nursing their drinks like a sick child.
"Hey Luca, 'nother round if you don't mind," Elios said, waving down the bartender.
"Last call is in about five minutes," Luca said, reaching for a couple of glasses. Stolen content warning: this content belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences.
"Better make it two rounds for me and my friend over there," Elios said, turning toward Trula.
"I think your friend has had enough, three drinks ago," Luca said, eying Trula skeptically.
"He's had a long, bad day, and he's not driving, so hook me up Luca. There will be a nice tip in it for you." Luca sighed before reaching for two more glasses, "fine" he said.
"I'm assuming it's just water for you again then?" he asked, reaching for one of the glasses.
"Yup," Elios said.
"I'll bring it over, go join your friend. By the looks of things you may have to carry him out of here," Luca said, shaking his head.
"Thanks," Elios said, before reaching in his pocket and pulling out a large bill and slapping it onto the bar.
"This should cover it and keep the change for your trouble," Elios said, turning and heading back to Trula, who was visibly swaying in the booth.
"How ya doing?" Elios asked, sitting down.
"Elios!" Trula exclaimed, causing several patrons to look in their direction.
"What's is youz doin' herez? Sits down and haves a drinks with me."
"That sounds like a brilliant idea, Trula," Elios said, smiling brightly at him.
"I just ordered us a couple. Luca's gonna bring them over in a minute."
"Hows dis yous knows I needs me anober one?" Trula laughed.
"Are you psycho... I means psykick or sumtin'? Trula asked his face beaming.
"I guess so," Elios snickered.
"You were going to tell me what your boss was up to that got you so upset."
"Thats right," Trula hiccuped, a sour look on his face as he put his hand to his mouth.
"Ooops scuse me, I tasted dat." Elios raised his eyebrows.
"Sorry… I guess," he said, eager for Trula to finally spill the beans about Wentworth.
"What was I sayin?" Trula asked, picking up the empty glass and putting it to his lips before tipping his head back and coaxing the last drop into his mouth. He looked sadly at the empty glass, then licked the inside, before looking over at Elios.
"It's empty," he said mournfully handing Elios the empty glass looking like he was ready to cry. Luca appeared behind Elios and placed the drinks on the table, then put an additional glass of water in front of Trula, "Here bub, drink this." Trula grabbed the glass and took a long drink, then suddenly spit the water out.
"Dats water, not my drink!' Trula protested loudly, causing the few remaining patrons to look over at him and shake their heads disapprovingly.
"I really think it's time for you and your friend to mosey on outta here," Luca said, "I can't in good conscience give him any more alcohol, he's obviously blotto." Luca reached for the bill on the tray that Elios had given him at the bar.
"No charge for these," he said picking up the drinks and placing them back on the tray. Elios looked at him then back at Trula, who was now trying to lay down on the bench seat.
"You know what, you're probably right. I really don't want him to throw up in the travel pod when I go to take him home," he looked at the bill in front of him and picked it up, then placed it on the tray in Luca's hands.
"Keep it, you earned it," Elios said, standing up.
"Thanks," Luca said, turning toward the bar, then stopped and turned to Elios.
"You need help getting him out of here?" he asked, hoping the answer would be no.
"Nah, I think I can handle it," Elios said, walking toward Trula.
"Hey buddy, it's time to go, let's get you outside," he said, pulling him back up into a sitting position.
"Do you need to use the bathroom first?" Trula nodded his head in the affirmative.
"You should always use the batroom before leabin'," he said, trying to pull himself up.
