Mordak scoured over the reports he had just received.
"Nothing? How can there be nothing?" he muttered, flipping the page. He depressed the button on the intercom.
"Get in here, NOW!" he screamed.
"Yes, sir," his assistant said meekly from the doorway.
"Please explain to me why there has not been any mention of this Farrand guy in any of these reports. Not so much as a sighting. You made the press release with the details I gave you right?" he asked, staring the young man down.
"Yes, sir, I included everything you specified, even the corpse," he replied nervously.
"Then I don't understand, why can't anyone find him? Why has no one seen him? Why hasn't he been torn apart by the outraged public?" Mordak asked cynically.
"Well, sir, the media outlets also released the footage they had acquired as the events unfolded, and they are questioning the legitimacy of our press release," he said, slowly stepping back.
"Well, get me a list of those media outlets so I can have their licenses pulled. They either report my version of events or… they report nothing at all," Mordak replied, surprisingly calm.
"It still does not explain why there is no mention of public outcry calling for his execution. I am sure some of my dedicated supporters are outraged and demanding justice against this foul individual."
"I'm not sure, sir," his assistant replied.
"It also does not explain why we haven't had so much as a report of someone claiming to have seen him," Mordak said, searching his mind for a reasonable explanation.
"This is the fairy debacle all over again." He sighed.
"They just vanished. Not a trace of them… or their families. Nothing. It's like they vaporized into oblivion," Mordak said, talking more to himself than his assistant. He glanced down at the papers on his desk. His assistant stood in the doorway awkwardly. He watched as Mordak's eyes widened. Stolen content warning: this tale belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences elsewhere.
"What is this?" Mordak smirked, "finally some good news." he said looking up at his assistant. The assistant remained by the door, looking at Mordak blankly, awkwardly fidgeting with his hands.
"Seems we have another realm out there," he said, his lips curling into a smile.
"First fairies. Now get this… Elves. That would explain why we have not found the fairy scum or that troublemaker. They could be hiding there in that… that elf place," he said, going over things in his mind. He looked down at the report, quickly turning the page.
"It seems we have a reported sighting of one of the fairy scum in this Elf world," he said sitting back in his chair.
"I need that damn teleport up and running." He huffed.
"I need to step up my plans. I need to take over this fairy realm. We haven't been able to direct where our teleports land. We need to take over theirs. They don't seem to have an issue traveling to and from this other place. Not according to the latest intel anyway."
"Sir?" the assistant asked. Mordak looked up, completely oblivious to his assistant standing in the doorway.
"What are you still doing here, go… get out!" Mordak said, waving him away.
"Can't you see I'm working here. Geez!" He huffed. His assistant nervously turned away, reaching for the door to close it behind him. Mordak watched him leave then turned his attention back to the report.
"I need to bring in that Armand guy Jimmick mentions, he could be my way in," he mumbled, turning his chair toward the window.
"He seems to have a genuine dislike for that fairy. I also need to give Jimmick a bonus," he said, then stood up and walked to the window, his brow furrowed deep with thought.
"Giving that Armand guy one of the old, decommissioned toys was a stroke of genius! I don't know why I didn't think of that myself," he mumbled as he turned back in his chair. He leaned forward and pressed the intercom button.
"Get in here, I didn't say you could leave, I'm not finished with you yet!" he bellowed into the intercom. His assistant rushed in looking flustered and confused.
"Yes, sir, how may I be of assistance?"
"Get on the phone with Colonel Vishay, tell him I need the toys being stored in special storage." He snickered, "We're going to make a little package for the poor underprivileged fairy children, operation everybody needs a friend 2. 0," he said grinning maniacally.
"Operation everybody needs a friend, sir?" the assistant asked, looking confused.
"You don't need to know what it is. Just tell the colonel to get the toys ready for operation everybody needs a friend. He will understand what that means," Mordak said, exceptionally pleased with himself.
"Now go!" He screamed.
